*A 5 star workload is an easy workload; a 3 star is average; whereas a 1 star workload is extremely hard.
Comments:MKT 3330 - Roberts may be one of the least helpful and incompetent teachers ever. He says that he'll post lectures if he's missing class a day and never does. Also his tests are not from his lectures at all so what is the point of even paying any attention to his lectures. All the test material comes from the book which is $190 by the way and is really hard for a college student to afford. Do not take him, truthfully one of the worst professors I've had at Baylor. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:3330 - DO NOT TAKE DR. ROBERTS!!! Dr. Roberts is without a doubt the worst professor I have had at Baylor. He has absolutely no teaching ability. His lectures are completely useless, and the tests are incredibly difficult. Studying for the tests was nearly impossible, because he would use very specfic questions over topics he never mentioned to us. The final project was ridiculous. He gave my group a 77 with not explanation, and then told us he was no responsible for the grade we got. BUT HE GRADED IT. Truly an awful awful professor. If the head of the marketing department sees this, please fire him immediately. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:3330 - I’m fairly confident that at least one of these positive reviews is written by Dr. Robert’s because man this class is awful. For starters I will say there are not a lot of assignments but everything else sucks. His tests are extremely hard and there is no way to study for them. If you ever ask he says to “read the textbook” let me tell you I did and never did well on a test. Also, any in class lecture was a complete waste of time. It felt like nothing he lectured on was on the test. He goes off on weird tangents about research that he did. If Baylor didn’t have a mandatory attendance policy I never would’ve attended class, his lectures are so boring I can’t understate it enough. Furthermore, on the large 100 page project he gives you there is NO RUBRIC. No matter how many times you ask what to fix he will always find something wrong. My group got the highest score of any group at an 83. PLEASE AVOID THIS CLASS, nice guy but yikes. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:3330 - Dr. Roberts is a nice guy. He is helpful and allows you to ask a lot of questions, but his class was kind of unreasonable. He never used a rubric when grading and told people that he was not at liberty to explain why he took off points. He was also inconsistent, as he told us to add something to our project, then asked why it was added and claimed that he never said to do such a thing. In class, he would often get off track and use examples that made no sense. The exams were also unreasonable and could barely be completed within the time given because they had 60 paragraph long multiple choice questions with 12 short answer/essay. At the end of the semester, we had to type up a group report that totaled up to almost 70 pages, and then had to take a 100 question final exam. Again, Dr. Roberts is very nice and is great with answering questions, but this class was ridiculous for what it should have been. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:MKT 3330 - Dr, Robert James is definitely the professor you want on MKT3330! He gave me a lot of help! In my opinion, many business students expect their professors to spoon feed them, but my answer is that Dr. Robert James is an absolutely amazing professor. I got an A in the Final report. However, due to my careless review, I got a B+. If you want to take his class, just pay attention to the final report and final exam. Besides that, he is an absolutely wonderful professor! - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:3330 - This class is not as bad as the ratings say. Honestly, there are some things that can be frustrating, like no tech in class and lectures being a bit dry. However, if you take decent notes in class, and read the book you can do fine. The class is exam heavy, but he literally gives you the short answer section in the form of a study guide which is 50% of the test. If you slack off and put things off, this class will be hard. The final project is not as bad as it seems, and the actual data generation isn't hard. If you have to take Roberts, just be prepared and you'll be fine. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:3330 - Roberts' class was difficult but doable. He talks on and on about the same things each class and uses the same examples. There is no technology allowed so it is always extremely boring. The tests aren't as bad as I was expecting. Just memorize the short answers by heart and be familiar with the vocabulary in the chapters. The third test was so hard though. There were two times as many multiple choice and after passing the other 2 tests I failed the last one. The project isn't bad, but he gives absolutely no guidance and no rubric. My team and I met with him 1-2 times a WEEK to check how we were doing and make sure we were doing everything to his standard. When we presented, he stopped us so many times he might as well have been up there giving our presentation with us. He is rude and arrogant and I think he just likes to hear himself talk. His handwriting is unreadable so we had to ask him about the corrections he made on our rough drafts because we didn't understand. We ended up getting a 60 on our report and he made no comments on it. For all of the other smaller assignments in class, no one ever made an A, even if it was simple and easy. I think it's just because he tries to be proud to be a hard teacher. If you have to take him, get the book but don't read it, it's a waste of time. Just try to pay attention in class and learn the vocabulary. Also do the extra credit. It's just reading the book he wrote himself but it was pretty easy. Good luck - Grade In Class:B
Comments:3330 - Do NOT take Dr. Roberts... He is one of the most arrogant and unhelpful professors I have ever had. His tests are extremely specific and the last test was so incredibly unfair. They consist of 40ish multiple choice and 15ish short answer that you must memorize word for word in order to get points. The last test was so long and in depth that we were allowed to start 5 minutes early and stay 15 minutes late and I still did not finish the test. He makes you do a semester long group project that you have to create a presentation and report for a survey you create. He gives no rubric so you don't know what he expects of you and when you ask for help he'll tell you something different each time. We worked for hours each week on it and still received a 75, which lowered our grades tremendously. He also waited until the very last minute to enter grades so there is no helping your grade once it's done (I had an A up until the last day). His attendance policy is WACK. If you miss more than 2 classes you lose 15 of the 25 attendance points. Doesn't let you use any technology in class which is pointless because all his lecture slides are on Canvas. Very rude and unhelpful. Save your GPA and avoid this god awful professor. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:3330 - Dr. Roberts does not believe in an A. For our class, his tests are half short answer, half multiple choice and the short answer is word-for-word the study guide, so memorize the entire thing. The worst part of the class is his grading on the final project and final exam. The final exam was the hardest multiple choice exam I have ever taken in my life. It was 60 questions and was over very specific book content from all the chapters. So many people failed the exam he removed it from next semester's class plan (I took this class Fall of 2021). The project was even more of a disaster. We spent a month of in-class time creating, distributing, and analyzing, a survey through SPSS, eventually presenting to the class. Throughout this entire process, he was very hard to work with and extremely unhelpful. While he helped on the survey part, we had little to no direction on the analysis through SPSS, which nobody had ever used. The grading was absolutely atrocious. He had no criticisms of our presentation and we got a C+. The average on the final project was a 77 and he gave one group a 58. Almost everyone I knew in the class finished with a C or low B. Do not take this class if you are looking for an A. He's a good guy who is very knowledegable about market research, but is unforgiving and unhelpful with grading and the class project. He also lectures all class, which can be interesting due to the nature of his experience in the industry, but end up being extremely tedious after a couple weeks. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:MKT Research - Dr.Roberts was hands down the worst professor I have ever had. He is arrogant and the majority of his class is spent talking about himself. The project he assigned was graded with no real rubric, he grades the project mainly based on his opinion. The daily work is easy and he mainly hands out 100's, but when it comes to the tests, they are ridiculously specific and difficult. Do not take Dr. Roberts if you want a good GPA. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:MKT 3330 - This man is arrogant and rude. He literally interrupted my group multiple times during our presentation and questioned the accuracy of the information he verbatim told us to include. He lost his own Kahoot in another group's presentation. When no one makes above a C on a report that is formatted identically to match the example in the textbook, there is obviously a problem. Aside from the final report, his exams were the most unfair and inaccurate assessment of knowledge I have encountered. Conveniently, he got rid of the extra credit that was offered to the semesters before so it is literally impossible to make an A no matter how hard you try. If you're looking for a reason to throw your semester 4.0 off a cliff then this is the class for you. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:3330 - Was making a high B until he failed us for the research project. We made high grades every progress report, and our presentation got a 20 out of 25 points. But come time to turn in the report, 54. Got the grades in a couple days before the final and wouldn't respond to any emails until AFTER final grades were posted - Grade In Class:C
Comments:MKT 3340 - Nonprofit marketing. He maybe the the most arrogant, rude teacher I have had a Baylor. When he is having a good day the class is not bad at all, but when he is having a bad day, he takes it out on his students. He insulted one of the guest speakers (which he invited), he publicly insults your work in front of the entire class if it does not meet his ambiguous project requirements (in his words, "Why would i give you a rubric? I know an A when I see one"), he rambles alot, and he expects you to know marketing basics even if you are not in the business school. This class has so much potential, but he does not deliver. If you really want to learn nonprofit marketing basics, read the book but don't take this class. (PSA His attendance policy is wack) - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:3330 - The person below must be smart for getting a 99. Dr. Roberts isn't as awful as the other comments made him to be. He's really passionate and helpful. He grades hard only on the tests and the project. All his assignments are completion grades. The semester-long project is so time consuming so get everything done early. Even if you go into him, he will give every group the same grade for each progress report. He expects a lot out of us even though we have never done something like this. No one gets above a C on the project report so don't get too excited. He grades lightly on the presentation though. Make sure you know your stuff because he asks questions during the presentation. Go to him if you have questions, he'll answer anything. His tests are some what difficult only because the MC comes from the book, but he gives you the short answer so like thats a gimme. Its an upper level class and we are college students so you obviously can't blow off this class. The class consists of assignments, semester long project, and 3 tests (and his class is points based). If you are worried, don't be, he's a really nice guy and gives you extra credit If you read his book. He's not as bad as all of the other people are making him to be!!!! - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:MKT 3330 - Okay, after taking this class I felt the need to post a review because this class is NOT NEARLY AS BAD AS PEOPLE SAID. I was so nervous going into it because of all the bad reviews, and the only reason I took him was because the other professor had a waitlist of like 20 people. Dr. Roberts is such an amazing professor. He cares a lot about his students and wants them to be very successful in Marketing. However, you do need to try to some extent in this class. This is an upper-level course, so you should definitely expect it to be a little harder than intro-level courses, but it's not impossible to make an A if you follow these tips: MAKE SURE YOU STUDY A LOT FOR THE VERY FIRST EXAM. I can't emphasize this enough. This exam was literally what made me have an A throughout the whole semester. It also gives you some room if you don't do as well in the 2nd exam like me. Read the book for his 40 MC (it's only like 13 pages per chapter) and read his PowerPoints for the short-answer questions. He gives you about 20 short-answer questions prior to the exam for you to study and he picks about 12 of them to put on the exam word for word, so just kinda memorize it and try to write as much about it as you can. Theres little assignments on SPSS and Qualtrics throughout the semester. These are SUPER easy and gives you 100's on them. Just follow the instructions he gives you and you should be fine. The one thing I do have a complaint about is the semester-long project. Just like every one else wrote, he does NOT give full credit for anything. You have "check points" where you turn in a report. He barely gives you any instructions on it, theres no examples, and he isn't very helpful during office hours. He also basically goes over what was supposed to be on the report AFTER you turn it in. The only thing I can advice is to make each report look good (pictures, big words, and use terms he mentions in class). Make sure you do really good in everything else because the project can hurt your grade. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT!!!! I had a 93 in the class and it bumped my grade up to a 99. DON'T MISS MORE THAN 2 CLASSES. You'll lose so many points for attendance, so just makes sure you go. Just follow all these tips and you'll be good! :) - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Nonprofit Marketing - I had an A in this class and he took 40 points off of a test for missing 3 classes and for being sick one day... Because he doesn't accept doctor's notes. So I ended up with a C. Not to mention his class teaches you NOTHING.... I literally just created an account on BU books just to say DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Oh, and he makes you buy his own book for extra credit. Conflict of interest? I could seriously make a full report on why not to take this class. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:MKT 3330 - I felt the need to post this because I was nervous having Roberts on my schedule judging by the reviews here. I have to say I'm confused by the other reviews because I don't see any problem with Dr. Roberts at all. He's a great guy, willing to help. His lectures aren straightforward and the workload isn't too heavy - a couple of Qualtrics and SPSS assignments (which will boost your grade), 3 exams and a semester long project. He's not too tough of a grader. You'll do fine on exams as long as you read the chapters (which are easier to get through than most textbooks), look over the slides and practice his review questions. Don't be worried about taking Dr. Roberts, he's a great professor who knows his stuff. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:MKT 3340 - Save yourself some time and take anyone other than James Roberts. I've never met someone that loves himself more than how much James Roberts loves himself some James Roberts. This is the first time I've ever written a review on someone but he frustrated me enough to actually sign up just to inform others to not take his classes. He will act as if he cares about you but at the end of the day he could care less about you. Unless you're talking to him about him or one of his books, what you have to say is going in one ear and out the other. Essentially what I am saying is... Don't take a class with James Roberts and your life will be much less frustrating. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:3330 - This my first ever review for a professor. This guy is a complete joke. He talked about his book that he had written literally every day of class. He cares way more about his research and nonprofit classes than he does about this class. His tests were by far the most difficult tests i've taken at Baylor. They usually consisted of 40 ambiguous multiple choice questions and 10-15 incredibly depthy short answers. Essentially, you would need to know the book word for word to do well on these tests. On the final research project (a hefty part of your grade), no one that I know scored above a 75. I received a 70, and thats after running the project by him several times to check it. He is a very friendly man, but his class is so absurdly difficult it blows my mind. Do yourself a favor and take someone else. I've never disliked a teacher this much in my life. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:MKT 3320 - To begin, let me just say he is an incredibly nice man. However, that does not make him a great teacher. Don't get me wrong, he is VERY knowledgeable, however I hardly ever feel completely prepared for any of his tests. I met with him privately, did extra work, studied, the whole deal, and it hardly helps. His tests are EXTREMELY difficult.Usually about 65 Multiple choice and 6-8 short answer questions. He also gives out weekly at home quizzes which are also pretty challenging. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:MKT 3320 - I usually don't ever add these, but I felt like I had to in order to stave off some of the fear I know you people who have "Roberts" on your schedule are going through right now. To be honest, I don't think a lot of the reviews on here are entirely correct--people write if they love a professor or if they hate him. I, for professor Roberts feel very ambivalent about the entire class. Here's my breakdown: Overall, the class is interesting enough. You do have a lot of quizzes, probably one a week, and they are very difficult. I rarely made over an 80 and I read through the long chapters multiple times. That being said? I made an A in the class. But honestly, I thought I would make a B+. In addition to quizzes, you do have some Wall Street Journal reflections. These are super easy. People would do them thirty minutes before class. All you have to do is get a check on them, so you have to be pretty bad in order to not receive full credit. Regarding the final project: you're in a group and it's honestly not that time consuming compared to a lot of other class projects. We split the group work up evenly, met about 4 times and completely dominated our presentation. The tests are difficult as well. Study the book and the notes well, it's all I can say. As for Professor Roberts himself, he's a really kind person. And he does care about you. My only complaint is that he's a little full of himself. A little conceit goes a long way in my opinion, but past that, I had no qualms with the guy. He learned my name, he always greeted me in class. I read these reviews in terror before I had him last semester. I hope this can ease your fears. You CAN make a good grade and you don't have to be perfect--I did poorly on the quizzes, only decent on the tests, but I did very well on the WSJs and the final project. Hope this helps. Good luck guys. :) - Grade In Class:A
Comments:3320 - Wow what a hard professor! Daily hard quizzes,4 exams (m.c&f-in-b) plus final, big project that hardly counts & weekly 1 page typed WSJ article papers. What a workload! My strategic class was less work then this & this class was an elective!! He is a good professor (teaching wise) but his workload is too much however he isn't too helpful when you ask a question. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:Advertising - Dr. Roberts is a very nice man. However, his teaching style makes it very difficult to make a good grade in his class. He will spend a lot of time talking about one thing in class and can be redundant. The tests are about 60 multiple choice from the book and 6 short answers from his powerpoint slides. His grading is weird because his attendance is very strict. If you miss 4 days you only get 10 out of 50 points. If you miss five days you get no points so you get a zero on fifteen percent of your grade. Baylor already has an attendance policy so I don't find that necessary and it really killed my grade along with the quiz grade. There is a quiz over every chapter and you have to read to do well. All of these quizzes together count as much as a test grade and they are difficult. His tests are very difficult as well. I studied for an average of 8 hours for his tests and never once made an A on one. Although he is very difficult, he was a good professor and a nice man. He needs to work on his grading process though. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:3320 - Good person, very nice. HARD tests. not many grades. - Grade In Class:D
Comments:MKT4600 - Well... I got a D my first time around and a B the second time. The problem with having a 6 hour class is that it combines two very different courses (Consumer Behavior and Marketing Research). You could do well in one of the courses and terribly on the other, and if your average is less than a C you have to retake the entire 6 credit course. It's a major waste of tuition. For the Marketing Research exams, memorize every single slide- there are only 6 per chapter. The short answer questions come directly from what Dr. Roberts says about the slides. Don't say "oh, I get the general concept" or you will fail. You must know those slides word for word. For the Consumer Behavior portion, it is a little more difficult to judge which questions will show up on the short answer portion because there are about 25 slides for each chapter. The material is easier, but there's more of it. Whatever you do, do NOT take this class lightly. It has a huge negative (or positive for the few) impact on your grade. I've heard MKT4600 is just as hard with other professors too... good luck! - Grade In Class:B
Comments:Consumer Analysis - Just don't look at the grade and think I'm bashing this guy. He really isn't a good teacher at all. He is a real nice guy and I feel like he really wants to help but in the end, he has no idea how to teach. You have so much information to know for each test and he ask the most ridiculous questions . I would read the whole book, highlight, make outlines and notecards and still had no idea what would be on the test. And during the 3 hour class twice a week, all the talks about his personal research and his book; which most of the time has no relation to the class. Try and get someone else for this class, you will do more work than all your other classes combined and still probably do bad. - Grade In Class:D
Comments:4600 - This class sucks. It's not Roberts, it's the fact that you have to sit there for 3 hours twice a week. We have a test almost every other week, which were pretty hard with a big essay question section which asked stuff you could only know through pure memorization. He is a really nice guy, and he gives extra credit. It's kind of annoying that he gave us a sitting chart, we're not in middle school. It's a hard class, but Roberts himself is not too bad. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:4600 - This is one of the worst professors that I've had at Baylor in the four years I've been here. The class met twice a week for three hours at a time, we never got out early. In his lectures he will cover approximately 5 or 6 powerpoint slides in the whole three hours. He seems to talk about nothing in particular but yet expects you to practically memorize all of the material for his tests - which I could not pass no matter how much I studied. If you have to take the class, wait until you can take it with another prof. - Grade In Class:D
Comments:Advertising - Dr Roberts is the worst teacher I have ever had at Baylor, and I'm graduating next semester. You won't find a professor at Baylor who cares so much more about his research and personal agenda and less about his students. He doesn't write his own PowerPoint slides, he gives you overly extensive reading quizzes, and his tests are 70+ multiple choice questions AND short answer. If you want to do well you have to memorize the chapters (The other comments are right), and it wouldn't be so bad if the chapters weren't 35-55 pages each. There is not a reasonable way to study for this class without spending WAY too much time on it. My advice: take someone else or don't take the course at all. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:3320 - Dr. Roberts is a very nice man and has good rapport with students, but his tests are horrible. Agreeing with above comments, you pretty much have to memorize every chapter to be prepared for the test. He does not give any guidance about what's going to be on the test. We had two projects in the class that took quite a bit of time (10 hours for one of them) but they were only worth about 10% of total grade---not worth it. Very nice man, but class is very difficult. Would not take him again. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:3320 - I am usually on the Dean's list, so that says a lot. I definitely failed this class. The tests are very hard in that you have no clue what will be on it, then he asks questions about something that they mention once in the book. You pretty much have to memorize the entire book to do well on the test, and when there are 5 Chapters per test, which equals about 200 pages...you're pretty much screwed. Do not take this professor. - Grade In Class:D
Comments:4335 - Dr. Roberts is a really really tough professor to take. His tests are really hard and you can expect the class average on his tests to be right below a 70. For the most part, he is nice and cares that you learn the material. He does have a tendency to talk alot and can get off subject. He doesnt let the class out early or on time. Kinda frustrating... - Grade In Class:C
