Comments:2321 - Dr. Wilde is hilarious, a great instructor, and cares about his students. One of the best professors I have taken at Baylor. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:MTH 2321 - On the first day of class Dr. Wilde told us half of us will hate him and half of us will love him. As these reviews demonstrate that diagnosis is absolutely correct. I was in the “love him” camp - he is one of the best math professors I have ever had. He explains topics very well and makes sure you have everything you need to know for homework and tests. Tests are difficult but not impossible - put in the time studying and make a through notecard and you will do well. Always always always do the assigned homework - it is not collected but the daily quizzes come straight from it. I believe I ended with a 100% quiz average because I always did the homework. He usually ends class early and leaves time for questions, though many people to not take advantage of this time for whatever reason. My only real complaints are that Dr. Wilde is very inconsistent and often unforgiving with partial credit. I lost 40% off a question for dropping a minus sign in my answer. He is also slow to respond to emails. Despite these shortcomings, Dr. Wilde is an amazing professor and I would definitely recommend him. I will certainly be taking his Linear class. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2321 - Very few professors generate such bipolar reviews as Dr. Wilde. Having taken his class, I think I can point out the separating factor between the people who like him and the people who don't. If you are willing to work hard and dedicate yourself to learning the material, you will like him and like his class. If you don't, however, you will likely hate him, as he is not simply going to hand you a grade. His tests are exactly as difficult as they are rumored to be (the class average on the first exam was south of a 70%). I went into the first exam expecting it to be a breeze and walked away with a 66%. On the second exam I realized I needed to dedicate myself to crawling out of the hole I had dug, and so I set myself to studying every problem in the book, going to his office hours to go over homework, studying with other students, etc. The second exam was no easier than the first, but I scored a 95% this time around. No curve was ever applied and I still managed to salvage a B from the wreckage of that first exam. Dr. Wilde is also, as people have said, incredibly sarcastic. If you have thin skin you may feel that it is "condescending" or "hurtful," however, as you spend more time around him, you come to realize that is just how he is. Any frustration you might perceive stems from his desire to see you succeed, and he is always willing to stay long or squeeze you into his office hours to help you thrive in his class. All in all: if you're prepared for a college level class then Dr. Wilde is for you. If you are still expecting high school level difficulty and spoon-feeding, however, then steer clear. This is not a class you take to check a box, but it is a class that will prepare you to seriously understand and use the concepts in classes to come. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:Cal 3, ODE - Make no mistake Dr. Wilde classes are difficult, however, he is a great teacher. His tests are hard but fair. His grading is tough, but only if you make mistakes related to the topic (algebra and little math errors are not really a big deal). Homework is optional, but he usually asks a question straight off the homework on the quiz. If you want an easy A, do not take him; if you want to learn the material, Dr. Wilde is great. I made an A in both courses, but I had to work really hard and do most all of the optional homework (Cal 3 is much more difficult, ode is not very hard). - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Calc 2 - Dr. Wilde does not deserve to be classified as an educator as all he does is discourage and put down students already struggling. During office hours he is extremely condescending and creates a hostile environment not conducive of learning. However, the worst part about Wilde's class is how he grades. He does not give fair or really any partial credit and at times his grading seems extremely random. If you make even the slightest of mistakes, even if the rest of the work is correct and you end up with the right answer, he will count off all points on that question or at least near all points. There are three in class exams and a final with no chance of a drop test nor curve. I have been told by a friend in the math department that some of the other calculus 2 professors have told Wilde he grades too hard. Just keep this in mind if you decide to register for his class. Also, keep in mind that it will be the worst decision you will have ever made at Baylor. I know it was mine. - Grade In Class:DROP
Comments:Cal 3 - I'll lead off with the fact that Dr. Wilde does indeed curve-- but you need to do well already in his course for that to help you. The homework isn't bad, and I like that you prove you did it just by doing a quiz question taken straight from the homework. The exams are a little more complicated-- twists on the quizzes-- but not too bad. However, his greatest shortcoming is that he A) doesn't give good partial credit and B) is inconsistent in his application of partial credit. Very frustrating. Nevertheless, Dr. Wilde is talented at explaining concepts in multiple ways. I'd suggest him if you often struggle with one-dimensional teaching. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:MTH 1322, 2311, 2321 - Dr. Wilde is my favorite prof at Baylor. He is such a nice guy and really wants you to succeed. He has a quiz at the beginning of each class but doesn't require you to turn in the homework. He also usually lets class out early. He is a great teacher and, in my opinion, explains concepts well. If you don't understand, just ask him and he will explain it to you. His tests are very difficult, so spend a lot of time preparing. He is also very sarcastic, so don't take offense to anything he says about you, he is joking. If this bothers you, just tell him and he will not pick on you. Overall, great guy, great teacher, and I will continue to take his classes when I can - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2321 - Calc 3 - Wilde is the best! He is great at explaining concepts and very helpful. Very doable class. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1322 - Wilde is a very interesting teacher to say the least. He is really funny and makes class very enjoyable to go to even though its a Calc 2 class. In terms of teaching, he pretty much explains everything you need to know (like a foundation) to do the HW. Doing the HW is a must even though it's optional. His daily quizzes are easy if you just do the HW. His first test wasn't bad, but the last 2 for me screwed me over and kind of sealed my fate with the grade I'm getting. You really have to be careful on his tests. I overthought some questions and made small careless mistakes (in turn means many points taken off), BUT I do understand the material. His tests are very hard, and its quite easy for your grade to be dropped to an undesirable grade. Overall, I really enjoyed class with him even though I pretty much bombed my lasts two tests (why im getting a C). Take him if you want to have an engaging and enjoyable experience in math (other than the part where he gives your tests back), and don't make careless mistakes on his tests like I did, because you will be punished hard for it. **BTW he also ends class early, so if you have any questions on previous material its a good time to ask him then** - Grade In Class:C
Comments:MTH 2321 - Wilde’s class is not as horrible as the reviews make it seem. He is very sarcastic but the way he uses the sarcasm it’s clear he’s not trying to be malicious. If you get offended you’re most likely being overly sensitive. There are a few problems with Wilde though; his teaching ability isn’t spectacular, but it isn’t the worst I’ve seen. Class was usually 20-30 minutes & although it’s great to leave early it wasn’t always enough time to effectively teach concepts. There are 3 tests & he doesn’t drop any nor does he give partial credit, so one bad test can do a lot of damage. Now, Wilde is the pickiest grader I’ve ever come across in my life & ive had some pretty anal teachers but Wilde definitely takes the cake. He’ll count your entire problem wrong for the smallest mistakes as if he gets off on taking points off. It’s actually infuriating & that’s where Wilde becomes really annoying. Otherwise his tests are literally just the homework problems. The class isn’t that bad if you put a decent amount of work in but if you put it off & think it’s too easy you’ll end up being railroaded & failing the class 3 months in & potentially having to drop. Trust me, id know. - Grade In Class:DROP
Comments:2311 - Dr. Wilde's class is not impossible to do well in if you put in time, effort and go to his office hours. He is very sarcastic in class so if you don't appreciate sarcasm then I wouldn't take him, but his sarcasm brings some humor to an otherwise very boring subject. The tests are difficult because the class is difficult, but you are not going to find a linear professor that makes the class "easy". I would recommend taking Wilde because it is a very straightforward class with homework each night (that is not graded), a one question quiz each day, and a test that is the very same format as the test the year before. If you understand the material, you will do well on the tests. He is great in office hours if you show up prepared with the questions you have and act like you actually care about learning. I know some people did not have the best experience with this class, but I would recommend taking Wilde for linear based on the experience I had. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:mth 1309 - His grading system is based on the tests only. The homework is optional which makes it really hard to learn. Since the hw is optional he does not grade it so you do not know if you are doing the procedure right or even if the answer is correct for that matter. The tests are even harder than the homework problems. Dropped. The next semester I took a different professor and got an A. - Grade In Class:DROP
Comments:2311/2321 - IF YOU CAN TAKE THIS MAN, DO IT. Every class is structured the same: show up, take a 1 question quiz, have a 30 minute lecture, leave. Pay Attention in lecture and understanding concepts is easy, because he actually knows how to explain them. He teaches you what you need to know as opposed to everything in the book. His tests are comprised of the "harder" homework problems. Oh, btw, homework is not collected, but, if you love yourself, you'll do it. This man is an amazing teacher with a fantastic personality in the classroom, you will have a good time in any of his class. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:3325 & 2321 - I am really confused as to why Wilde has such bad reviews. He comes to class with his lecture ready gives a short quiz that is an exact homework problem from the previous class, spends 20 minutes lecturing, and lets his class go early. He gets straight to the point doesn't waste time and lets you use a notecard on tests and quizzes. His tests are pretty much the more difficult homework problems. Almost everyone who worked every homework assignment made an A in his class. Just do the work and you are good to go. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2321, 3325 - Dr. Wilde is one of my favorite professors at Baylor. He teaches in a very simplistic manner and usually ends class 15-20 min early to give students a chance to ask questions. In Calc 3, Wilde ended up skipping many of the sections towards the end while other classes still had to learn it. He is a very straightforward and to the point professor and you will learn a lot from him without ever having to read the textbook. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:2321 - I think Dr. Wilde rubs some people the wrong way because he can be very sarcastic in class. Reading the previous reviews and from what I heard from other people, I thought for sure I would dislike Dr. Wilde since I usually cannot stand sarcasm. However, his sarcasm really is not mean, and he usually uses it to make calc 3 more interesting and keep people awake and alert. He is great about meeting outside of office hours if they don't work with your schedule, and he gives you every opportunity to earn the grade you deserve. Since I was a freshman in this class, his class was much more difficult than Calc and Calc 2, but I think that was since I did not take those classes at Baylor. He pulls all the test problems from the homework, so make sure you know how to do the homework problems (even the hardest ones). There are three tests and a final, and on each test you can bring one note card to use (on the final you get 2 notecards). He also gives a quiz every class covering the homework from the section covered the day before, which forces you to keep up.Though his tests only cover material from the homework, they are by no means easy. Start studying for his tests a few days in advance for sure! In my class, Dr. Wilde gave no extra credit nor did he curve any tests, but I have heard he bumps final grades. Also, Dr. Wilde cares about his students and takes an interest in them. He would always ask me and my friends in the class about how we were doing and other things he knew about our lives. He really is a nice teacher, and you should not be afraid to take him! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2321 - As a teacher and a person, I love this guy. He is hilarious and I thoroughly enjoyed his lectures. As a grader, he stinks. He is somewhat nit-picky and takes off large amounts of points (coming from a straight A student, I was very disappointed to get a B+). HOWEVER, that being said, the class is doable! Just take the tests slowly and try to avoid stupid mistakes (which I made a lot of) - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:3325 - Did a great job teaching ODE. Homework quizzes every class means attendance is huge for this class. Tests were not hard but caught me off guard early in the semester. The textbook for the course teaches in a difficult manner, which he makes a lot more simplistic. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:2321 - This course covers a ton of material in a short amount of time, and Wilde did a decent job of explaining the material. There are homework quizzes every class period and the tests are very comprehensive. If you keep up with the homework, the class is manageable. Unfortunately, there is considerable homework for each class period. Ultimately, take him only if you have good study habits. At the time, I did not and suffered. - Grade In Class:D
Comments:2311,2321,3325 - Dr. Wilde is hands down my favorite math professor I've ever had. I took his dreaded Calc3 course, Linear Algebra, and ODE with him. If I had to rank the three, I'd go: ODE,Cal3,Linear. Yes, he is a very tough teacher, but his teaching is straight out of the book and he makes expectations really clear. There are daily quizzes which are literally just one of the homework problems from the night before. We are allowed a notecard on every quiz/test, and two notecards on the final. I took his linear class on T/R and we were let out in under 50 minutes every day, which was great since I had no official lunch break that day. Many complain about his tests, but they are definitely doable. He also will go the extra mile to help students if they need it; the first day of class he provided his cell phone number saying we could contact him directly whenever we needed it. I took advantage of this a couple of times and every time, I came out understanding the concept better. Sadly, I won't be able to take any more of his classes in the future, but I highly recommend everyone taking him! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Cal 1 - WARNING!!! DONT TAKE HIM!!! Super unhelpful, rude, condescending professor!!!! His exams are IMPOSSIBLE!! They are set up for failure....he doesn't even teach us. Were literally in class maybe 20-30 mins everyday. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!!!!! - Grade In Class:DROP
Comments:2321 - I actually thought Dr. Wilde taught the material for calc 3 pretty well. Just know that he can be sarcastic at times, and some students take this as him being rude. I don't think he is, that's just his style. He has a problem list with problems for each section. Make sure you do these to keep on top of the material (+some of the test questions were pulled straight off there). He gives quizzes every day, and these are pretty straightforward. Plus 5 get dropped, so it's not exactly hard to get a good quiz average. His tests are an entirely different story though. They are very difficult. Don't fool yourself thinking good quiz grades mean you're ready for the tests. Not only does he put some of the hardest problems from each section on there, but he is also a harsh test grader. A minor error will knock you down 4-5 points out of 10 on a question. While reviewing old tests for my final I came across three instances where I got a problem correct, just didn't explain it entirely how he wanted it, and I got 4/10 for those 3 problems. Make sure you knock the first test out if you want a good grade in this class, because the 2nd and 3rd (somehow) get worse, and the final is awful as well. There should be a support group for students who have been personally victimized by his tests. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:1320 - He gives you 10 minutes after every class to ask questions and review things that you didn't understand form the lesson or the homework. His teaching style is very bland but he gets the major points across clearly. His personality could be a turn off for some students because he's very sarcastic however he is never rude to his students he just jokes around with them. I loved his class and am taking him again next semester. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:MTH2321 - Wilde is, hands down, easily the most abysmal professor I've had so far. He seems like he is nice and funny on the surface, but that's far from enough to salvage the class. His tests are needlessly difficult in every sense. I am a very math-minded person, and I breezed through most of the homework very well...and I still ended up with a 50 on the first test. After thinking maybe I just needed to change my study habits and completely changing my ways, I ended up with a 60 on the second test...and on closer inspection, I found out just how nasty he is at grading. I got EIGHT POINTS, count them, EIGHT sliced off for mistakenly swapping plot coordinates on a problem -- and this was after I already worked out the rest of the (very convoluted, I might add) problem properly despite this mistake. The icing on the cake was how incredibly unhelpful he was in office hours -- it essentially amounted to "I don't know what to tell you." Even showing him my test, he sat there with a completely blank look, as if it weren't his job to, I don't know, HELP. And when I brought up the questionable amount of points he took off, he barely even said a word. As somebody who was able to fairly easily walk away with a B in Calc 1 and even the notorious Calc 2, I can say with no hesitation to avoid Wilde. I can honestly not believe I had to drop a class that, for all intents and purposes, I should not have had any trouble in. - Grade In Class:DROP
Comments:1321 - Don't take him. Save yourself the trouble. The guy is by far the most unhelpful and unpleasant professor I've ever had at Baylor. If you've already taken calculus or for some reason want to teach yourself calculus, then maybe this class is for you. If not, avoid this class at all costs. - Grade In Class:DROP
Comments:2321 Cal3 - He assigns homework and the next class you are given a quiz based on the homework which was great but the tests were NOTHING like the homework, quizzes, or even what was taught in class. He was quite rude when I asked for help. The only part I liked about the class was getting to leave early. Do NOT take him. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:Cal 3 & Linear Algebra - I had Dr. Wilde for two classes in one semester, worked 20 hrs a week and never slept. He is a very good teacher in class, and makes concepts clear. He generally does not speed through topics and will let you ask questions during his lectures. Although, be warned, if you ask what he believes to be a stupid question then he will reply somewhat sarcastically. I am sarcastic so I did not mind it, but it can be intimidating to some. In office hours, he is somewhat demeaning when you ask him about the work. I don't think he means to be, but there were times I wanted to tell him he was being a jerk. The main complaint I had was he gives hardly any partial credit. Even if you get the answer right, I still remember two specific instances, but you word something differently than he wants he will take half the credit off. I studied harder for this class (Cal 3) than I have for any other class, had a 4.0 GPA before taking him, and got my first grade below an A. I got a C+ in the Cal 3 and a B in Linear Algebra. His linear is easier, but still very time consuming. I enjoy math and I had to spend 10+ hours studying for each of his classes every week. I probably spent closer to 15 hours every week. I would not suggest taking him if you want a grade that accurately represents the amount of work put in and knowledge learned about the subject. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:Mth 2321 - Dr. Wilde is a great teacher but he has a caustic sense of humor that can be a bit intimidating at first. However he is quite funny once you get used to it. His tests are mostly straightforward but often require the application of concepts in ways not directly practiced in the homework. There is a daily quiz graded on a 10 point scale instead of turning in your homework. I found it be a good system since it gave a steady stream of my progress in the class. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2321 - Dr. Wilde was far and away the best math professor I've at Baylor. If you do the homeworks and make sure you understand the material, you will do well on the quizzes and tests. Tests are 10 free response problems, and easy if you understand the material. TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU ARE WILLING TO WORK (he also lets you use a note card on the tests) TL;DR great professor, easy and fun class - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Pre-Cal - Dr. Wilde is honestly a horrible teacher and a condescending ass. He makes things that are very simple out to be very complicated and honestly thinks he is the most brilliant person ever. This is a man who seriously could care less about his job and does not embody what it means to be at BAYLOR UNIVERSITY. - Grade In Class:DROP
Comments:2321 - Lecture Wilde ( HE is not Professor, he is lecture) worse guy ever I met in my life, he just suck and stay away from him - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1322 - I enjoyed Dr. Wilde. Although homework is optional, it is crucial for staying on top of the quizzes and being prepared for the tests. The tests were challenging, but easier if you did the homework. He is willing to go over any problem either at the end of class or in his office hours. He makes lecture fun with his dry sense of humor and sarcastic comments. Get to know him, too, for he really cares about his students and wants them to thrive. He is willing to help if you ask! My advice is to get a study group together before the tests. Oh and he lets you use a notecard on each exam. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1322 - I don't recommend him at all. Your grade will consist of 3 test, the final, and daily quizzes. The quizzes DO NOT prepare you for the test. Doing well on the quizzes is really meaningless, because when the test comes around you see problems unlike anything on the quizzes. Dr. Wilde, is extremely intimidating in office hours and offers little to no help. Test are graded VERY harshly. He does not curve. About half to a third of my class dropped after the second test because they were failing. This is the first math class I have ever done bad in. I will be retaking the class, but NOT with him. Side note-We also had a test the day before DIA and the day after DIA. WHO DOES THAT?? - Grade In Class:D
Comments:MTH 1321 - Honestly, most of the reviews here seem spot on. Dr. Wilde is pretty entertaining in lecture and we usually got out early (although I advise you stay and ask any questions you have on the homework). I had a good calculus class in high school so I was a bit complacent coming into the class. Even with a background in calc, the class was NOT easy. I made a C on the first test and a B on the second test. However, I was able to still get an A. Basically, there is homework assigned for each class and it is totally optional to do, it is not collected or graded. However, you need to do the homework if you want to do well on the daily quizzes (they are usually one question and always an exact copy of a homework question). The tests are not unfair, but they can catch you by surprise if you don't have a good grasp of the material. Time can be a factor, so I would advise setting yourself up a practice test from the homework problems and putting yourself on the clock. Though Dr. Wilde is not easy, taking him will be worth it when it comes time for the final. The final is departmental and is Judgement Day for the people with slack-off professors. Because of Dr. Wilde's teaching and tests, I found the final to be very doable (plus they curve it like 15 points). Lastly, make sure you go to class. Dr. Wilde is really big about putting the work in, and honestly having 0 absences is probably one of the reasons I made it out with an A (He does curve final grades at the end of the year). Overall, take Dr. Wilde. His class is a bit hard, but it will be worth it comes time for the final and if you are going any further in calculus. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Calc 2 - Run and hide. Wilde is the hardest teacher I have had at Baylor. His tests are very difficult. He does curve everything, but thats because class averages are so low. If you are not a math major, take another teacher. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:MTH 2321 - One of the best professors I've ever had -- definitely the best math professor I've had at Baylor (I've had at least four others). Yes, he's sarcastic, and yes, he can be caustic, but he's hilarious in class. We consistently get out early: he'll allocate time after the first 50 minutes of our Tuesday/Thursday to work individually on the homework problems if we had questions about it. Grades are a combination of a set of tests and a daily quiz -- the daily quiz makes up another test grade. Tests were straightforward and had rather obvious material on them, and quizzes were usually almost exactly from what he did in the previous class. After making C+s in Cal I and II, it was nice to have a decent math professor. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1309 - If you are a natural at math, you will do fine, otherwise I do not recommend him. I had taken Calculus in high school so I did fine in his class, but I know of a lot of people who are struggling, or had to drop. He is a very funny teacher, which takes the ease off of things, but he essentially just teaches you formulas then lets you go figure out the rest on your own. I liked him, but he is not for everybody - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1309 - BUSINESS CALC...unless you're a natural at math...do not take Wilde. Any dry sense of humor and sarcasm that some people seem to enjoy will not help you in this class..just make you more mad. We left class early everyday, because he would teach us the basic formulas/concepts etc from that section then cut us loose to basically learn the material on our own. He did very few in class examples. Every class there was a one or two question quiz that was graded all or nothing. You pretty much either got a 100 or a 20 on the quizzes, which he drops a couple at the end of the year. Tests are 10 question, free response. Stingy grading. Miss one question, and make an addition error on another problem and all of a sudden you've got AT BEST an 85 on the test. Also to mention...totally unapproachable..if you don't know something or answer a question incorrectly, he looks at you like an alien. I went to his office twice for help and walked out knowing less than I went in with, feeling like a complete failure. I got an A in pre-cal by the way. stay away from Wilde. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:Business Pre-Cal - Very funny and helpful guy, but the tests are extremely difficult. They're only 10-12 questions long, and all open response. Additionally, he is a very hard grader and there is very little margin for error. He is very helpful and easily available during his office hours. He even gave out his cellphone number during the first day of class. Homework isn't for a grade, although there is a 1-2 question quiz at the beginning of every class that can be extremely difficult if you don't do ALL of the homework. Overall, I would not recommend taking this class if you are weak in math or have no prior experience. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:Calculus 2 - I've never done so bad at math in my life. I felt like I understood everything in class, and I understood his daily homework quizzes. However, the tests were difficult, and he took off a lot of points for silly mistakes. I've never gotten a C in a class before, so it was kind of a let down. He does teach well, and he's amusing and has a very dry sense of humor. I liked the class- but I'm very disapointed with my grade. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:MTH 1322 - Great teacher! I stopped doing the homework after the first chapter because he taught so well in class, all I had to do was go over my notes to prepare for the quiz. Daily quizzes were easy, plus he drops 8. Tests were a little on the hard side, but you could use an index card so just write stuff you aren't sure of down. No surprises on the tests, very straightforward problems like the examples in class. Most fun I've ever had in a math class - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2321 - Calculus 3 - The way he lectures allows the students to understand the concept out of the book. His use of sarcasm and ability to joke around with students helps lighten the mood of learning Calculus 3. He has daily quizes to just check to see if you did homework and to help gauge what material you are struggling with. Once he finishes lecturing, he allows students to leave and those who have questions can stay and ask. This helps because sometimes students are shy to ask infront of the class and some just dont care enough to stay. The exams are ridiculously hard and are nothing like the assigned homework problems. Yes the exams are doable, but they just take way to long and if you get stuck its a major problem. Use of a notecard on the test so you don't have to worry about memorizing every formula. There needs to be more partial credit given on exams. You normally get 10 points for doing it correctly and if you mess up it is a 5. BUT if you get it wrong, you get 0 points even just for attempting the problem. TL;DR Great teacher. Exams are horrible. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:Pre-cal - Wilde is a really good teacher but if you havent taking precal before he is not the teacher for you. Your grade is strictly Quizzes and 3 Test and a Final. He is always available during office hours and is very willing to help. He's a pretty tough grader so beware. His test are nothing like the quizzes. The test were free response but it was always possible to score higher than a hundred. If you are really good at math, take him its an easy A. If you arent good at math either take him and go to his office hours whenver you can and study hard or don't take him at all. Overall his class was decent. You'll make the grade if you put in the work. - Grade In Class:F
Comments:2321 - WARNING: HE CURVES ALL GRADES AT THE END OF THE SEMESTER. I got a C on every test and got a D on the final, but still got a B in the class. The material in calc 3 isn't that difficult, but his tests are brutal. Also be warned that he is basically unapproachable and likes to watch his students suffer in this course. I took him for Calc 2 and got an easy A, but DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN FOR CALC 3. He wants to see you squirm. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:MTH 1321 - I absolutely loved Dr. Wilde! He taught in an effective manner that was easy to understand. Class consisted of daily quizzes (one question, often off of homework), homework questions from students, and the lesson. Homework was never for a grade, but it is pretty neccessary if you want to understand the material and do well. Even though I didn't get an A, I still really enjoyed his class, although I know of people who just didn't like his teaching style. For me, I would highly recommend him! - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1322 - Calc II - very sarcastic teacher (just like many of the other calculus teachers i've had). With his sarcasm, he makes boring math a little more interesting. The topic itself is hard. It's not the professor's fault that what he's teaching is a little higher level stuff than what you're used to. The lessons also go very fast. If you fall behind, it'll be very hard to catch up. There are plenty of quizzes which give you chance to do well though. He never checks the homework, but if you want to fully understand the lesson, I recommend you do it. Raise your hand in class when you dont understand something and make sure you get it. Don't be afraid to ask. He is more than willing to go over concepts you don't understand. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1321 - The class consists of a one question quiz every class, homework (not for a grade) after every section, 3 tests and a final exam (no scores a dropped or replaced unless an absence). I took the course MWF in the morning. Wilde is a nice guy with a dry sense of humor but slightly intimidating, which made asking him questions hard because he puts you on the spot when he answers - this is also why only 2 ppl in my whole class ever participated in his lectures. The quizzes are VERY easy, just make sure you understand the concept of the homework. However, the tests are INCREDIBLY hard, and worse, he grades them extremely rigorously and barely gives any credit (tests are 10 questions, all free response). His lectures are somewhat entertaining but are VERY fast paced and short, we always left class at least 8 mins early, they almost resemble a review. His handwriting is not legible sometimes, and the whole lecture just feels unorganized - you can tell he doesn't review what he's going to teach prior to class. Don't get me wrong, Wilde is truly knowledgeable about the subject and is perfectly capable to answer any question. He does care about helping his students and will make time for you outside of class. This was my first time taking Calculus and his class made me hate it at the beginning. I felt like I had to read the chapter and work on the homework before I went and listened to his lecture. You will leave his class with a vast knowledge of Calculus, but your grade won't show it. I read his reviews at the beginning of the year but did not think it would be that difficult. I had to discover at first hand that he's not my kind of teacher. I know some students in my class that have taken Calculus already and still have to work hard for their grade. If you have taken Calculus BC and you want to review before Calc II, then this professor is perfect for you. Otherwise, you'll have to make A LOT of time to study and get tutored. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:calculus 1 - Hilarious guy. created new symbol "bird" in equations. quizzes every class, 1 or 2 questions and are pretty easy. tests are insanely hard though!! Hw and Si and Quizzes simply dont cut it for his tests. FIND A TUTOR!! my mistake and I recieved a's throughout high school, and placed into cal 1 freshman year. Unless you took and did well in high school in calc, DO NOT TAKE HIM. half my class dropped and i hear its just getting harder and harder. He doesn't grade or take up hw but if you wanna pass you have to put in time!! he doesn't give out partial credit fairly.. - Grade In Class:DROP
Comments:2321 - Dr. Wilde was my first non A at Baylor, but it was certainly worth it. He is the most entertaining teacher that I have had at Baylor thus far. He is the funniest guy who is not afraid to joke and make fun of students (in the good way) daily. He is an extremely picky grader, as a few little mistakes will put you to a high C on tests, which is why I didn't end up with an A. He did curve the classes grade toward the end though I think. There is a quiz every class, so understand the concepts in the optional homework. This guy is amazing, take him! - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:2321 - Please, please ignore the negative comments about Dr. Wilde. I for one think Dr. Wilde is a great teacher. He has a very dry (and very funny) sense of humor that keeps the atmosphere loose and conducive to discussion. He gives daily quizzes over previous nights' assignments, but if you understand the concepts and worked the problems, the quizzes amount to a grade cusion. He is always willing to spend class time reviewing difficult concepts, even if it means that he will skip a section of the textbook that he won't have time to cover as a result. Don't be misled: Dr. Wilde makes clear that you have to study for his tests--and believe me, you do--but the problems are still within reason if you prepare for and do well on homework and quiz assignments. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1321 - I loved this professor! He was so nice and hilarious. However, this class was REALLY hard. I spent a lot of time studying for it, but his tests really get you prepared for the insane departmental final! I think he may have bumped up my grade too because I was on the border between an A and a B.. all the more reason to take him! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1321 - I love Dr. Wilde. He's funny and he really wants you to do well in his class. His tests were reasonable, with 10 questions each, and one or two of them were a little more challenging. There are attendance quizzes every day and they are straight off the homework, so if you do it and understand it, the quizzes will save your grade. The one bad thing about him is that he is a hard grader. He's a bit stingy with the partial credit. He does give it, but I don't think he's very fair about how much he gives. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:Pre-Cal - Take Him!!! He gives you every opportunity to pass. There is a quiz at the beginning of every class, but the quiz is one question and is a question straight from the homework. I think there were 3 tests (no midterm). They are pretty much just like the homework. If you don't understand the homework, he is willing to spend the entire class period going over the problems the class didn't understand. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Business Calculus - Also! The reason why his tests are so difficult is because he examines your knowledge of the material rather than your abilitiy to re-perfom the steps you learned. Know the CONCEPT of the problems. Don't just memorize the steps. He will ask different questions on the exams than on the homework so you should know how and when to apply certain methods. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Business Calculus - I have a history of Calculus courses under my belt so this class was fairly easy. But for students taking the course with no previous knowledge this course was hell. Quizzes aren't that big of a deal. Most of the questions come off of your homework so if you do that, then you're assured a good grade. Exams are alot harder though so make sure you study. And study by redoing all your homework problems. Mr. Wilde is an excellent professor though. There were alot of laughs in my class and I had to approach him a few times over grades I didn't feel were justified. He is very conservative in his grading, but he's a friendly guy. He does make his students feel like their dumb but nobody should care in that class cause everyone is pretty much struggling. Just take notes. EVERYTHING that is written on the board will help you when doing your homework. S do your homework. And you'll be fine :) I aced all of my exams except for one I got cocky on. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1304 - Wilde knows his stuff and does a fairly good job in teaching it to you most of the time (a couple times some of the material flew over my head). His tests are difficult and if you take the twice a week course he gives quizzes every class. This can help your grade because he only counts 15 out of the 20-something you take. I needed to get a tutor to help clear a few things up before the tests but other than that the course is doable. Boring, but manageable. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1321 - Hes not very sympathetic when it comes to tests. If you haven't taken calculus then do not take him. The homework is not a very good reflection of the tests so dont rely on it too much. If you have to take him get help early. Hes not really available since he lives in dallas. - Grade In Class:D
Comments:1321 - He is not the best prof to get for calculus. Hes not too helpful, he moves quickly, and the homework does not help for the tests. His tests are rather hard if you dont completely understand the information. If you arent very familiar with calculus i do not suggest him at all. The final i felt was easier than his tests. Do the homework so that you can get a really good quiz average and that will save your grade if you do bad on the tests. He makes the homework optional and it tempts you not to do it but do it just in case. Hes very sarcastic so dont ask dumb questions during class because he may try to make you look dumb in class. He commutes from arlington so his office hours suck dont expect to be able to make them. Just try to get a better rated prof and save yourself the stress. - Grade In Class:D
Comments:1321 - I wouldn't recommend this professor. He has a very strange personality and is overly sarcastic. At times he can get annoying as well. Quizzes are daily, 1-2 questions. If you don't show your work correctly, you lose a lot of points. He is unapproachable, because he makes you feel dumb. He offers 3 tests, fail one, that's a letter grade. Just too much for a math course! I give him a 20/100! - Grade In Class:C
Comments:1321 - His teaching is awful. I can into the class feeling like I would do well because I aced a similar course in high school, but after taking from him, my confidence in my math abilities has been shattered. You have a quiz each day and it is generally easy if you do the homework. I aced most of the quizzes and felt like I was understanding the material until I failed the first test, and barely passed the second. His tests are only 10 questions long and he grades very harshly, counting off points if you didn't solve exactly the way he would or if you didn't have all the details of your work written out so it's easy to follow. The average on the second test was in the 50s. He travels everyday from Arlington so his office hours are very very limited, and he's not very approachable when he is on campus, partly due to his overly sarcastic personality. Try to take from another professor if possible. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1304 - Horrible teacher! I wouldn't recommend him at all! - Grade In Class:F
Comments:1304 - DO NOT TAKE WILDE, REPEAT: DO NOT TAKE WILDE. Worst professor I ever had in any course. If you fail one exam, that pretty much messes up your chances at making a A. I couldn't tolerate his teaching style and he makes class so boring and dreadful. He pretty much set the example of having that ONE professor who ruins your life. I recommend any other math professor except Wilde. Also, if you're pretty much forced to take him, make sure you do the homework and talk to him very frequently. - Grade In Class:F
Comments:1321 - One Word: AVOID. Seriously do yourself a favor avoid him, he is not helpful, it will make your GPA plummet, the only advice I have is to not even consider him. Not helpful, rude, and could give a flying rats tail about who passes and fails. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:1321 - Probably the worst professor I've come across. His teaching style seems really great at the beginning until you get to the test. He expects you to know things that were never taught. His quizzes were not a good representation of what would be on the test. I strongly advise not to take this fool. Even with an extensive knowledge in Calculus it still won't help. His jokes are lame and they get old. He talks way to loud. He makes belittles students and make them feel inferior. Overall he is just an awful professor. It still bewilders me that Baylor has allowed him to stay for this many years. Oh and if you need to send him an email. Don't, he won't respond. Heres a rough breakdown of the grades during the 2nd exam: 35, 11, 2, 69, 61, 50. Ridiculous - Grade In Class:B
Comments:MTH 1322 - This is one of the hardest classes I have taken at Baylor. He teaches like the normal math teacher. Write problems on the board and then work it out. Everyone takes notes for the class period then your done. He gives you a sheet with the problems you should work out of the book for each section but never takes up the hw, instead he gives a hw quiz that is one problem at the beginning of almost every class. They are worth like 10 points each. His tests are over just what he went over in class and similar to hw problems. He is very sarcastic and kind of funny. - Grade In Class:D
Comments:1321 - I took Professor Wilde for Cal 1 my second time around (I took Daniels the first time) and he made it SO much more interesting, if you can call Calculus interesting at all. He has a very sarcastic sense of humor, some people like it, some people don't. It didn't bother me and at times it was entertaining. He doesn't pick up homework but he answers questions if you ask nicely lol Compared to the other teachers, I would definitely choose him! - Grade In Class:B
Comments:MTH-1322 - Professor Wilde is awesome. He's a fantastic math teacher who cuts to the point and doesn't waste time. However, this translates to a VERY fast paced lecture and class. He rarely stops to derive anything or explain intermediate steps. Make sure your algebra and trig foundations are SOLID. AND DO THE HOMEWORK! most of his tests are questions pulled straight from the homework and he grades very strictly. dont expect to bs your way through something you dont know. That said, his class is structured very efficiently. Daily quizzes to make sure you kept up with the HW and a few quiz drops at the end of the semester. He's a cool guy who has a dry sense of humor and doesn't like to use anymore of his time or your time than he needs to. class is out early alot and he's cancels class every now and then. but seriously, just go to class, do the homework, dont piss him off... you'll do just fine. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:MTH 2321 - Wilde is hilarious and his class is really laid back. The homework load is pretty light and isn't that difficult either. There are daily quizzes, but as long as you do the homework they're pretty easy. The tests however are a completely different experience. To get a B or even a C you have to be very familiar with the material and not just able to do the homework problems. He offers no curve and a very large part of your grade is based on the three exams so it is important to do well. If you're good at calculus and are willing to put in the hours to study a lot before tests, take him. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2321 - Wilde is very good at keeping the material simple and clearly explaining what is required with every concept. He gives daily quizzes that are always harder than you think so don't blow them off and gives a recommended list of homework problems for practice. Wilde is very funny so class is rarely boring and he also let out class early several times. The big downside, however, is that Wilde's tests are extremely difficult. He will always put several questions on his tests that are very different from anything covered in class or the assigned homework and he expects you to be so familiar with the material that you can just figure it out. Because of his tests, I do not recommend Wilde; his good teaching doesn't make up for the hard tests. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:Cal 2 - Prof Wilde is generally a pretty polarizing figure in the world of Calculus professors. If you are doing well in the class, you will find him a good teacher with a very funny sarcastic sense of humor. If you are not doing so hot, you will probably not like him. His class is fairly difficult; such is the nature of calculus courses. He is one of the best professors to take for the course. He explains concepts well. He does not take up homework, but the daily quizzes are almost always something that was on the homework. Whatever you do, find a buddy that has taken the class and has old tests; your life will get much better. Probably about 60-80% of the old test materials make an encore on the next years tests. Calculus gets progressively more difficult; expect to spend more time studying than you did in Cal 1. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:MTH 1321 Calc I - He moves through each section very quickly. I wouldn't sugguest him to any student who is taking Calculus for the first time. He is a funny and decent teacher, but honestly does not offer enough examples. Some people love his class and other people hate his class. For me, he is right in the middle. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:MTH 1304 - Wilde has a very straight forward teaching approach. He explains things in a way that is easy to understand and went at a good pace. His office hours are in the morning though, so it made it tough to get help on hw, but he is always happy to help when he's there. There are quizzes every day at the beginning of class which he also uses to take attendance so if you're late to class you miss the quiz and get counted absent. Double win. So don't make this your first class, show up on time, take notes, do the hw and it'll be no problem. But really....do the hw. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:1304 - Scott is a hilarious teacher. He laughs along with the students and seems like he would make a good friend... but this isn't a comedy class. NOBODY laughs on test day. There are only three tests and one departmental final for the semester. His tests only have ten questions, and he's a very, very tough grader. He doesn't check any of your homework, but there's a daily quiz over the HW material. If you have the strong background in math that I lacked, then I might recommend this prof just because he's funny. Otherwise, stay away. Half of the class dropped by the second test. (The class average on test 2 was like 52%.) I seriously wondered if I would pass the class, but the HUGE curve on the departmental final saved my little rear end. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:1304 - I had taken calc in high school and got all As. I took Dr. W for precal and I thought it was impossible. almost half of the class dropped because everyone was failing. He lives in Arlington so he is never on campus if you need help. If you pay attention and do ok on the daily quizzes he will love you, but he mocks students who ask stupid questions, so make sure you know what youre talking about. I wouldnt suggest taking him - Grade In Class:DROP
Comments:1321 - The best thing about Wilde is how great he is at explaining things. So if you like to pay attention and do your learning in class, take Wilde. He also keeps it interesting with his fantastic of humor. Of course, you'll still have to practice with lots of homework problems, even though there's none assigned - he has daily quizzes. But they're very reasonable and will boost your grade if you keep up. The biggest downside to Wilde: His most-used phrase is "I don't care." There's a reason you don't see any reviews that say "he really has his students' best interest in mind and he's like a second father to me." Definitely not Wilde. But as TEACHING goes, Wilde is where it's at. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:MTH 1321 - At the beginning of the semester Dr. Wilde made it very clear that nothing will be given to you - take this seriously! This includes teaching, answers to even numbered problems, and explanations that aren't definitions straight out of the book. If you've just taken Calculus in high school and feel fine teaching yourself, you might enjoy his sense of humor and have a great time. But if it's been a while since you've taken Calculus and you're actually looking for a helpful Professor, do not expect help from Dr. Wilde. His quizzes are a nice grade boost and he did make Calculus mildly interesting, though still quite foreign. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:1309 - Wilde... very sarcastic, sometimes funny. He's only here on MWF but thats not really a big deal. Every class he gives a one question "quiz" from the homework. He drops 7 of them which is really nice for those off days. His tests are hard but the problems are from the homework, just made a little harder. I took him in the morning and I didn't have a problem keeping awake. I'd recommend him; he's probably one of the best business cal teachers. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:Cal II - I do not recommend Wilde. I took Cal II before entering into Wilde's class and got an A the first time around. Wilde gives quizzes every class period and his tests are ridiculous, the only good thing was he let you use a notecard with formulas on it for the test. - Grade In Class:F
Comments:MTH 1322 - There is a one-question quiz every class, so you must stay on top of your homework. He's a funny guy who enjoys both mathematics and teaching, so his lectures are never boring. He tends to make fun of people who ask dumb questions, so be sure to know what you're talking about before you speak up or you'll end up the butt of one of his jokes. The tests can be very challenging so expect to spend a lot of time studying. Calculus 2 is simply a difficult subject, so be sure to take advantage of his office hours! You'll appreciate him more after the course is over rather than while you're taking it. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1322 - We had homework every day but didn't have to turn it in - instead we would have quizzes a couple of times a week over a problem in the book. Dr. Wilde teaches very well and gives enough examples to understand the material (for the most part - Calc 2 is just hard in general). He has a good sense of humor so the class isn't boring, and he was very helpful the couple of times I went into his office for help. I'd take him again any day. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Cal I - Excellent teacher. He's very straightforward and explains mathematical concepts in terms and examples that nonmath majors can understand. There's a quiz everyday but he never takes up homework. Study for the tests with the homework; he uses the difficult problems from the homework on the tests. Funny guy too. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1321 - I really enjoyed this class. I did all the homework for the first 7 weeks then didn't touch a thing outside of class for the rest of the semester. He will go over the material very well and your attention in class is definately reflected in your grade. He is a fun guy and enjoyable to be around. His classes fill up quickly so good luck getting in - Grade In Class:A
Comments:MTH 1304 - He is good just not at 8 am in the morning. I probably could of done much better in this class if it wasn't for being so early in the morning. The first 5 minutes of classes a quizz is handed out from the hw from the night b4. He drops a lot of them so don't worry if you fail a couple quizzes here and there. The test are not that bad. Just do the hw questions and they are usually straight from it. He doesn't email you back very quickly, if he does at all. Overall: An alright teacher, take him just not at 8 am. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:MTH 1304 - Dr. Wilde is the best math teacher I have ever had. He made material that was previously beyond me come well within grasp. He is one of the harder pre-cal teachers, so expect to work hard if you want to keep your average up, but with a little effort you will do well. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1321 - Currently I have a B, waiting on the final grades to get back to me. Wilde is an interesting fellow. He's very funny, and his jokes tend to break the sometimes negative feelings in the room after a test or quiz. This class moves very quickly. He assigns homework that isn't graded, but it is absolutely necessary that you do the work to understand the concepts. There are quizzes every day - usually one problem, or one problem with part A) B) C). Work a few problems from each chapter before the tests and you'll do fine, they aren't incredibly difficult. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1304 - Wilde is a smart guy and knows how to teach math but doesn't do it. In his notes during class he does definitions!!! If I was having a vocab test this would help. He doesn't do as much examples as he should at all. Also when you ask a question he never knows what your talking about and makes students feel stupid for asking because he doesn't get it. He has quizzes everyday that are usually one question. The test are very hard. One good thing about his class is that the test are so hard they prepare you for the final. He is a pretty fun guy and lightens up the class sometimes with a joke. But when its a 50 min class time is limited. I would say find another teacher or study study study HARD and so ALL of the homework and be prepared for anything on the test. - Grade In Class:F
Comments:1304 - This class was not that hard... There are quizzes mostly everyday. Do the assigned homework problems over about 2-3 times and understand them and you will do well. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1321 - He is an interesting lecturer and is really funny. There are quizzes everyday, but as long as you look over the homework, they aren't hard. Tests, however, are a different story. They are difficult and include things that we had not really gone over. The only review you get for the tests are asking questions over the homeworks from the chapter the class before the test. If you are good at math, you can probably do fine in this class, but if you are like me and didn't take calc in high school, this class will give you a lot of unnecessary stress. - Grade In Class:C
Comments: precal - He was very hard. He tries to teach everyone. But if you don't understand something, your grade will suffer, and there is no way to catch up. - Grade In Class:DROP
Comments:MTH 1321 - Dr. Wilde is really sarcastic and loves to make fun of you, which is good for holding your attention in class. He gives daily quizzes (straight from the homework) which can really help out your grade in the end. Tests are kinda difficult. He's a little stingy on partial credit. Just keep up with the homework and go to class and you'll be fine. Math isn't really enjoyable to me, but he makes it bearable. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:MTH 1304 - By taking Pre-Calculus in high school, one may think that would prepare oneself for MTH 1304. It did not for me. Professor Wilde's quizzes are helpful with the final grade, and his tests are rather difficult. The ultimate goal, however (the final) is made much easier throught his comparitively more difficult tests. I knew some in other Pre-Calculus courses who had a good grade all semester until the departmental final destroyed their grade. If you take Professor Wilde, the final exam will be quite similar to the tests he proctors (He is also quite funny!) I recommend him without reserves. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Pre-Cal - Scott Wilde is an awesome guy -- he's smart and has a great personality; classtime was fun because he's so funny. HOWEVER, if it's your grade that you're most concerned about, DO NOT TAKE HIM. His homework isn't too bad (it's never a grade), but the daily quizzes get tedious. He's a great guy, but the biggest problem (that will break your grade) are his tests. They are never reflective of the homework, so many students had no idea how to do them; he did not prepare his students for his tests. I heard he's not as bad for Calculus though, but the tests are still hard. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:Precal - AVOID AVOID AVOID! he gives like one example for everything so you'll encounter a lot of difficulty on the homework. his tests are super hard and his daily quizzes SUCK. - Grade In Class:D
Comments:Pre-Cal - Awesome guy. Very funny and cares passionately about teaching. He jokes around with the class, but he can change directions and focus on the work instantly. I think if i had not been a Freshman, I would have made a much better grade... - Grade In Class:D
Comments:1321 - Well... Dr. Wilde is a great proffessor if you rate professors by how well they can hold your attention in class. He is very sarcastic which makes class hilarious and if you sit on the front row you get to know him better. I have never been a good test-taker and I thought I was understand the material in his class, but I was sadly mistaken on each of his tests. I would have the right answer on 7/10 problems and work on 9/10 problems and I would have a 52. He gives very litter partial credit and I believe he takes off points if he just does not like the way your problems looks on the page. If you are a decent test-taker, then this is the class for you...otherwise...look else ware. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:Cal 2 1322 - Dr. Wilde is a really nice cool guy. He is pretty funny too. His class is about as difficult as Oxford's. The worst thing about Wilde is that he does not give very much partial credit on test. He is fair, but the tests are very difficult. Plan on studying alot. This class is bitter sweet. - Grade In Class:D
Comments:PreCal - Positively miserable. He actually takes offense at what is written on this website. He really, truly does. I needed ONE math class for my major, and I unfortunately decided upon Precal, which I had already taken once in high school. This Precal class isn't Precal. It's a review of Algebra II and Trig for six weeks, followed by 3-4 weeks of actual Precal, followed by 3-4 weeks of getting-ready-for-Calculus. The tests are tough (except the first one, which is deceptively easy), and the final is absolutely horrendous. If you're any good at math, this will be an easy A, if not, you're screwed. Quizzes every day, without fail. Do your homework, always. Pay attention in class, and try to pretend that he's not shouting at the top of his lungs, which, by the way, he's doing constantly. Misery at its finest inside the aging white-washed walls of Sid-Rich. Avoid him. Sorry Dr. Wilde, you're a nice guy, but I'd rather you were a football coach. Thanks for the 'C.' - Grade In Class:C
Comments:1321 - Dr. Wilde helped you out a lot if he knew that you really cared and tried hard. Go to his office and stay after class if you need anything. He takes off a lot if you screw up on a test question. However, tests come straight from the book. I never did well on the tests but ended up with a B in the class since the final is curved so much. I've heard that there are better teachers - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1304 - Mr.Wilde is a very smart man don't get me wrong but he can not teach to save his life. He knows the stuff really well but when it comes to communicating to students how to do it...it's just helpless. He moves incredibly fast in class and makes things seem much more complicated then they really are. I don't recommend him to anyone unless you have a significant mathematic history and already have a good grip on what you're doing because you can not rely on him to teach it to you. - Grade In Class:F
Comments:1321 - I'm good at math, but apparently not at calculus. However, Dr. Wilde was an amazing teacher. His wit helped make the class a little more entertaining because the homework/quizzes certainly were not. He doesn't grade the hwk, but make sure to do it b/c the daily quiz will be from it. His tests are hard but not impossible. It may take once or twice to get used to them. The final sucked, but it's curved. Dr. Wilde is definitely the best of all the calculus teachers, though - even some ppl who do not have him had said so! - Grade In Class:C
Comments:1321 - He's a very good teacher, and even though I suck at math, the way he taught made me understand the concepts very well. The examples he works in class seem pretty basic, but the homework problems get a lot harder. I took him in the summer, and we had quizzes everyday which helped out my grade tremendously (it all comes from the homework). He tells you at the beginning of the semester that the effort and work you put in will reflect on your grade, and it is absolutely true. I spent hours doing, studying, and re-doing the homework, and then re-did all the problems again before the test. The test can sometimes be a bit tricky, but if you did your homework and understood it, it shouldn't be a problem. The final was extremely easy as well (I got a 98 on it), and was overall pleased with this course. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1322 - Prof Wilde is great teacher. Funny occasionally. Dont mess up any simple math in class. He may jump down your throat for it. This is not a class, obviously, where you can expect the workload to be low. its one where the best worload is a HUGE pile of math. dont expect with any other teachers an easy way out. this guy is it, becuase he teaches the concepts so great. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1321 - The daily quizzes were all from the hw problems so do the hw! All the quizzes add up in the end as a test grade so it's kind of a grade booster. The tests weren't too bad if you went to class and did the hw, but the final was very hard. My grade dropped from an A to a B.. so definitely study a good amt for the final. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1321 - Dr.Wilde is very funny, but his voice is extremely loud. When he teaches it's like he's yelling at the top of his lungs. I think I have gone a little deaf after his course. His quizzes and tests are not that bad. Watch out for the final - I had an A, but it dropped to a friggin B+ after the final. I shouldn't have been so sure of myself and actually studied a bit. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1321 - If you take the time to ask questions, Professor Wilde will ALWAYS take the time to adequately explain the solutions. Don't miss too many classes becuase you will have quizzes everyday; however, the quizzes are fairly easy because you will typically go over the given section right before the quiz. Sometimes he is lazy and will give a "present" quiz where everyone present gets a 10/10. TAKE HIM!!! He's an excellent teacher with a sense of humor who will work with you whenever oyu need it!!! - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1321 - I hate Calculus with a passion however Wilde made it a little more bearable for me. He's kind of funny and generally a nice guy. He doesn't take up the homework but there are quizzes almost every single class period over the homework; however on the upside, he works any homework problem you ask him to do BEFORE the quiz, so about a quarter of the time you get lucky and a question someone just asked is the quiz, which makes it pretty easy. His tests are kind of hard, just study for them a lot and go to the SI. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:1321 - This is the third time I've taken calc 1, and the second time I've taken it with Wilde. I failed the first time due to not doing the work and not being very mathematically inclined. However, I wanted to take calc with Wilde again. This dude is hilarious, I'm actually gonna miss having a class with Wilde next semester. Straight up, Wilde is a total baller. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1322 - Cal II - This guy is an awesome teacher. I hated math in high school but it just clicked when I came into his class. He reminds me of an adult Ferris Bueller. Shows you you don't have to be a dry watch-calculator type of person to succeed in math. This guy was a blast. I'd recommend doing your homework once (or as much of it as you can) then going into the FREE tutoring room. That way you have all the answers to his quizzes and tests because it pretty much all comes from the homework. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Pre-cal - Dr. Wilde is possibly one of the best teachers I have had. He tells you at the beginning of the semester that what you put into this class is what you will get out of it and that couldn't be more true. He teaches the material but as with any math, doing your homework is paramount! My grade (a C) is a total reflection of what I put into the class and in no way reflects Dr. Wilde's ability to teach... He is a great prof... TAKE WILDE! - Grade In Class:C
Comments:MTH 1321 - I'm a pre-med University Scholar, and I had a 3.93 until this semester. I think this class is good to take if you have a extremely good background in cal--had AP in high school, etc. If you didn't, it's a no-no. No curve, even though test averages were around 60. He takes off points for nitpicky details, like whether you show your work perfectly. He has a very sarcastic sense of humor, which can be funny--unless you're the subject of his joke. Spent very little time going over material, and sometimes didn't know how to work the problems himself. It's a toss-up, so be careful, and do your homework. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:1321 - Professor wilde is a awsome guy and he makes the class fly by. He's very laid back and very often let his students leave early. He teaches what needed to be taught and helps us out with the daily quiz grades. I screwed myself over in his class because I thought calc was going to be a breeze. I might retake it one of these days though and boost my grade. If I do I'd definitely take Dr. Wilde again. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:1321 - Dr. Wilde...the greatest professor at Baylor. He deserves a trophy. He is so funny. He is very nice and VERY laid-back. His class isn't terribly difficult. Just discipline yourself and do your HW. His daily quizzes are buffer grades so go to class. He really wants his students to do well. Get yourself a TI-89, trust me on this. You take Dr. Wilde. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1304 - Mr. Wilde is an awesome math teacher, he explains the concepts in many different ways untill everyone understands it. There is a daily quiz that is over the homework and there is no reason you couldnt make a 100 on it. Every problem come STRAIGHT from the homework - test or quiz! TAKE HIM FOR ALL YOUR MATH CLASSES! he is by far one of the best math teacher here!! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1304 - VERY GOOD TEACHER..IF YOU HAVE TO TAKE A MATH...TAKE HIM!!! He is the only math teacher in 4 years to actually make sense to me, and he is very encouraging, very helpful and never makes you feel stupid. It's like he understands man! lol. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1304 - Mr Wilde is the best! He's a funny guy and he's really passionate about math and making sure that everyone does well! - Grade In Class:B
Comments:Cal 2 - Calc 2 - Very good math teacher (even though doesn't have every aspect down), easy to get along with, funny which keeps you interested. I recommend going to his office during hours, very helpful and personable. Cal 2 is definitely tough, quizzes and tests are difficult especially when missing one question can mean a C. But, overall highly recommended. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Bus Calc - Prof Wilde was the first math teacher I've had in a long time who actually does a fantastic job of teaching math. I was transferred into his class after a scheduling conflict but I was so incredibly grateful. He makes his classes interesting because he interacts with everyone on a first name basis. By simply coming to class (which, though not required, is very helpful) and attempting the homework, you can ace the course. Wilde is not out to "get" his students, he really wants them to understand. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1308 - If you're a slacker take Wilde. Homework is recommended and the tests are 10 questions. There are only 3 tests and a final. He doesn't take attendence and lets you out early. He does say "mmmm...kay" a lot. Anyways, he is decent at teaching. Take Wilde. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1309 - This is the best prof. I've had at Baylor. Homework is recommended but is NEVER picked up. As said below, he does not take attendance. Many days he will let you out early if you get through the material fast enough. The quizzes are never anything to fret over, sometimes the quiz will just be showing up to class. When taking notes, I would usually write down EVERYTHING he wrote on the board, it just helped my studying. The only time I would study would be for about an hour, the night before the test. I should have made a lot higher than a C, but it's easy to make stupid mistakes in math. He will however give you credit however he can on the tests as long as you show your work. He is extremely friendly to all of his students and is fun to joke around with. I recommend sitting in the front of the class if you really want to develop a friendship with him. We would take jabs at eachother almost every day in class, and it would make you forget that you are actually in class. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:MTH 1322 - Dr. Wilde is AWESOME!!! Instead of being totally lost in class and having to teach myself when I left, I always left his class feeling like I definitely understood the material. That being said, it helps to ALWAYS go to class! He doesn't take attendance but you'll be lost if you don't go. He does an excellent job of explaining the material so it helps to hear him teach it rather than trying to learn it on your own. He doesn't curve but not a whole lot of math profs do. He is ALWAYS available for your questions and really wants to give you all the points he can! TAKE HIM!!! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Bus Calc - LOVED Dr. Wilde! Although I got a C in the class, I enjoyed coming to class everyday. I wouldn't recommend this class to someone who cannot make himself do homework when it isn't required. That was my mistake, I never did the homework so I kinda sucked it up on tests, but even so I loved this class. He is laid back and makes class fun when he jokes around and knows each student by his or her name, he doesn't offer multiple choice tests anymore and there is a quiz every Friday- those are pretty easy to get 100's on if you've been in class. But if you don't want to come to class, that's not a problem because he doesn't take attendance! - Grade In Class:C
Comments:Bus. Calc - Very helpful, teaches at a pace to ensure that everyone actually gets it before he moves on. Is willing to go over the material as long as you want, but never holds you in class longer than need be (which is how it should be in every class if you ask me). Tests are very doable if you take good notes and at least do some of the homework. Great professor - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1321 - I heard so many good things about him as a Pre-Cal teacher, but apparently he's not he same for Calculus...sometimes he'd be so confusing that he'd confuse himself and have to teach the topic all over again... his quizzes are SUPER SUPER easy so it makes you not want to study for his tests cause it makes you think that his tests will be easy...NOT! They're SOOO hard!!! DO YOUR HOMEWORK, ESPECIALLY THE PROBLEMS IN THE BACK!!! - Grade In Class:D
Comments:precal - Awesome teacher...actually carea bout his students. He'll ask what kind of test you want (CHOOSE MULTIPLE CHOICE) and he'll let you have a notecard...SO helpful. bombed the first test and got B's on the others and still got a B somehow... - Grade In Class:B
Comments:Cal 1 - He is an excellent teacher. I loved his class. His tests are really easy and all you have to do to get a good grade on the test all you have to is study his notes. I never did any of his homework and the class was easy but at the same time I learned everything too. It's rare to find such a great teacher and I highly recommend him. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:CALC-1321 - Very laid-back teacher...a very nice guy. quizzes were helpful in boosting grade...but his tests are really tricky... - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:1321 - He's very laid back. Basically, do your homework because that's what most of the test problems look like. He's a cool guy and the quizzes are really a breeze. Easy 100 every Friday right there. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1321 - He is a very funny professor, but like the person below said, he has trouble himself sometimes. The only way I survived this class was my high school calculus background. Most of the time I was lost until I thought back to high school. He tries really hard to make sure everyone understands. If you do your homework you should be alright...(the homework is never picked up but you have quizzes on Fridays...GRADE BOOSTER!). I would suggest bringing your high school notes to college with you. I brought mine and sometimes they were a life saver. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1321 Cal - Might be good for pre-cal, but not cal. Can hardly remember how to do the problems himself, much less teach them. Very nice and pretty funny, but not a very good teacher. Only take if this is the only math class you'll have to take. You will not have a very good basis for cal II or III. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:Pre-Cal - Extemely laid back and understanding. Fun in class and will make sure everyone gets it. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:PreCalc - He makes class fun, but teaches extremely well at the same time. I've never had a math teacher who made things so easy to understand. If you don't understand something, he's very willing to help you out and put it into terms that apply to you individually. I would recommend him highly, he's a great professor! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1322 - Great teacher. Always funny in class, but at the same time gets a lot done. Tests aren't too bad, if you pay attention. Very helpful outside of class too. - Grade In Class:A
