Comments:1301 - I thought she was a fine enough teacher... until I got into 1302 and got Tiziano and Boscoleo. I wouldn't recommend taking Prof K for Italian 1301 if you have another option because she doesn't teach the subject as well. I don't know how to describe it, but even just the two week long review we had of past subjects we did in 1302 helped me fully understand the concepts I was struggling with for MONTHS in 1301. She didn't offer test reviews before exams like Tiziano does (which are true blessings I love that man) so exams were definitely much harder in that class than they are in 1302. It's almost like 1302 is a walk in the park compared to 1301--I'm getting 100s or 99s in 1302 compared to 1301 where I was getting low 90s and struggling without assistance. She would call on the people who were really and truly struggling, and she wouldn't let anyone save them or help them, just staring with a little smile on her face and waiting patiently, as if they would come up with the answer on their own, despite them not knowing it (like, I admit it was their own fault for never studying, but come on, throw them a bone and give them some mercy). For lab it was always online, which is great if you don't want to actually be present and pay attention, even though she makes you keep your camera on. But this was actually a negative for me, because I would get distracted, and I don't think I got everything out of lab I could have. I much prefer in-person lab that I get now, because we play games and get snacks and just in general love Boscoleo. I would def recommend those two professors over Prof. K. Live laugh love Italian!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 Lab - DO NOT TAKE HER. She is one of the most passive aggressive professors I have ever had and she WILL fail you. she accuses many people of cheating and will give you a failing grade even if you did not cheat. She is rude and will embarrass you in front of the whole class if you don't know something, even though this is supposed to be an intro level course. The courseload is not very heavy, but because of this, the few assignments you have will determine your grade. She also does not grade based on a rubric so if she does not like you for some reason, your grade will reflect that.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1301 Lab - I wouldn't say she was that bad but I only had her for lab. It was super easy and the oral exams are online and you have several attempts. My only issue was that when not understanding something, she was a bit passive aggressive and would cause embarrassment. Compared to other language professors I have had in the Italian department, they have been much nicer and understanding of mistakes. Overall, she was nice and the lab was easy.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - If you can avoid taking her, do it. Take any other italian prof possible. TAKE BOSCOLO. Kisacky does not teach well, homework assignments nonstop, and exams are surprisingly quite hard for an italian intro level course. She is not engaging and makes class painful to sit through. Especially on zoom. Like I said, take professoressa bosoclo, you won't regret it!!  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1302 - Professoressa Kisacky was a good prof for Italian. A nice lady but not a dynamic classroom presence. Expect to hear and start using Italian from the first week. It is not a bug, but a feature, as you are not in high school. She definitely notices if you are paying attention and want to improve, but do not expect a ball of energy like some language profs can be. Her grading was fair and her feedback detailed. Looking back on it, I think I should have done more than the minimum two semesters, but with covid measures, it was hard to really get a feel for the language. I found her supportive and thought she wanted us to learn as much Italian as possible, but that means a good amount of homework, as well as legit extra credit options. All and all, I’m glad I took Italian my freshman year after hearing from friends to waded through Spanish as sophomores.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ITA 1302 Lab - Dr. Kisacky is kind, funny, and helpful. She gives plenty of hints on assignments and drops your two lowest quiz grades. As others have stated, doing the homework is very important to succeeding in this class, but if you do, you will do well.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ITA1302 - DO NOT EVER TAKE HER COURSES! She has single handedly dropped my gpa down. Did not explain anything, taught us nothing, and gave no grace for how difficult it is to learn a language online. I would not take her course again! I got a C in the regular portion in this class because of her. Otherwise I had a B+. The assignments that she gave were practically impossible for some parts unless you literally spent a few hours looking through notes, the textbook and any online videos. She never told us where in the text book to look just that it was in there, which didn't help at all because there is 500 pages. I am regularly an A/B student and I failed her lab. I cannot stress enough, do not ever take this professor!  - Grade In Class:F

Comments:1302 - Professoressa Kisacky is the nicest person ever! She loves Italian and Italy so so much and you can really tell by the way she teaches. She always wants to work out any problems you have with any part of the language and is extremely patient in doing so. The class itself was pretty small, so this gave us a chance to talk a lot and practice our conversational skills (she always made sure to ask us about our weekends/days, how we are, etc). There are only quizzes if we upset her, which, in the two semester I had her, we never did. The tests are easy, if you do the daily (2-3 page readings) and study what she tells you to study in advance. She is also always willing to listen to criticism or suggestions from students. One of my favorite professors here at Baylor!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1401 - Dr. Kisacky is amazing! As long as you pay attention in class and participate, the class is a breeze. She is funny and sweet. The homework is always easy and not at all time-consuming. We never had quizzes, and the tests are easy if you study and pay attention. She offers various extra credit opportunities, both in tests and outside of the classroom. She always spends a day reviewing for tests right before them and is always enthusiastic to help!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2320 - She teaches this class very formally, which is different from other professors in the department, which is frustrating because she doesn't understand why you would not address her formally. Her assignments seem very random as she has an assignment everyday but doesn't always collect them. I felt as if she took a lot of the fun out of learning Italian.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:ITA 1401 - DO NOT TAKE!! She doesn't teach AT ALL. She assigns homework and never teaches any lessons. You have homework every single night. Only speaks in Italian, even to answer your questions. We had an opportunity for extra credit at the end of the semester, the other professor did not show up for it and we sat there for an hour. Kisacky refused to give us extra credit, even though we went. AVOID.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1401- Elem. Italian - AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! I am very committed to and passionate about my studies. I was so excited to learn a new language! I read the ratings for Kisacky and didn't take heed of their warnings. My mistake. She doesn't know how to teach properly and expects you to come in already speaking Italian. She hardly ever speaks in English in class and that makes asking questions particularly hard. She can be a bit condescending if you don't know vocabulary she didn't review, and though she is "passionate" about Italian, she can't teach worth anything. Tests are fill in the blank, multiple choice, FRQ, she tells you verbally what could be on them, gives no actual review, lots of daily homework, no quizzes, lectures are incredibly boring and hard to understand because she solely speaks ITALIAN in ELEMENTARY ITA!!! For your own sake and GPA's safety- do NOT take her!!!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1401 - I've always gotten A's in my classes until this one. She is a very sweet lady, but she is super boring and can't explain anything well at all. I went through the semester completely confused and ended up switching out of Italian completely because I was so incredibly lost. I basically guessed my way through every test and homework. I wouldn't recommend taking her.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:2320 - This is by far the worst class (and professor) I have ever taken. Her teaching styles are not helpful and not only that but when help is desired, she offers very little. It requires a lot of homework which seems excessive when she doesn't teach the material in class or explain things clearly. By far my least favorite class I have ever taken.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:1401 - Although Professoressa Kisaky isn't the worst teacher I've ever had, she isn't one of the greats. She is certainly enthusiastic about the material, which is a plus. However, there were things I didn't like about her teaching style that other classmates also expressed. One of the most important things to know before going into this class is that doing the homework is imperative to your understanding of the material. Almost every day of the week, the first 15-25 minutes of class consists of checking the material that was assigned for at home. Although she doesn't take it up as a grade too often, if you don't do it, you won't learn anything about Italian. Unfortunately, this is the not as happy part of my review. Professoressa Kisaky is not very good at teaching. As a student who is very interested in language-learning, I would often ask questions that were higher level, making sure that she clarified some significant aspect one of the many broad topics we always seemed to skim over. Once, instead of actually helping with a genuine question, she told me to use the internet instead. She also doesn't really teach the class in a way that would promote the actual learning of the language. She teaches it just like any other class here at Baylor - you go in, you take a test, you move on to another chapter, you take another test. Mostly everyone in my class (myself included) have forgotten everything we've learned in previous chapters, mostly because we never revisit any of the old material, which unfortunately doesn't allow a lot of learning. She isn't the worst teacher I've ever had. However, I would strongly suggest taking someone else.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ITA 1401 - Not everyone thinks Professor Kisacky is a great teacher, but I honestly enjoyed being in her class. She requires a lot of class participation, which can be annoying, but it is very helpful in practicing Italian. She gives lots of extra credit opportunities so it is very easy to boost your grade in the class. As long as you put in effort and do your work, you will be fine in the class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ITA2320 - Kisacky is a very kind professor. She is kind and generally understanding of our lives as students. She is not overbearing on the homework expectations, although vocab quizzes can seem a little hefty at times. She allows for plenty - and I do mean plenty - of extra credit opportunities. Do read the textbook, though.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1402 - No, no, no, no.....far too much work with very little reward of learning the language. Coming from a student that has no problem with doing homework or studying hard for any tests. She does not teach the material effectively, or hardly at all, rather. A lot of "learning" comes from reading the book and teaching yourself, but you can't miss class because of her attendance policy. Moves far too quickly; we just had our final test before the final exam a month from now. This extra time could have been used to slow down on chapters. Does not sympathize with students when the entire class is asking her to slow down, just keeps going forward and acts as if the class is wrong for expecting her to explain information more clearly. Do the homework, and be sure to read. I don't benefit from paying attention in class. Managed to get a better grade on a test just by reading instead of listening in class. If you can, take the other professors. Dr. Kisacky is a very sweet lady if you're on a personal level with her outside of class. But I did not enjoy her class. Plenty of extra credit opportunities, I will give her that.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:ITA 1401 - Professor Kisacky is a very sweet lady. Her teaching style can be tedious, she requires a lot of participation but it is easy to get an A in the class. The homework is daily but it is only a completion grade. Quizzes-just study the vocab and you will do fine. She does her best to prepare you for the tests so you always know whats coming.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1401 - Professoressa Kisacky is a very interesting woman. She's very enthusiastic about Italian, but I didn't always gel with her teaching style. She uses blackboard and an online workbook that you need to do. Homework every night, but they are short and relatively easy and will help you learn (and are definitely a boost to the grade!) Tests are kind of hard, the vocab quizzes are easy if you study, and she drops the lowest grade from each category. Twice a semester you'll get almost a week off for oral exams, which are pretty easy and take 10 minutes or less. Participate a lot and she will like you, and she prefers if you volunteer instead of picking "victims." In fact, if you volunteer once in the beginning of class, she probably won't call on you again if you don't want to participate. She'll let you know if tutors are available and she has a lot of extra credit opps that only replace a missing homework or lab grade, but still helpful. She's a good professor and I'm taking her again for the next level.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1401 - She is a very nice lady. She expects a lot of participation in class but you get used to it. In her class you have about 2-3 assignments every night. They are usually pretty short though. You go over them the next day in class. She takes the homework as completion grades only, but she will show you what you did wrong. So it's easy to have an 100% for homework. Her tests are hard but they aren't impossible.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1401 - Omg....This lady and I had it out. I really enjoyed the class, just because I really enjoyed keeping her on her toes. She really loves the language, I will give her that, and because of that she is extremely amusing to watch. I was terrified that I wasn't going to do well in the class, so I studied pretty hard at first, and in doing so, got to relax for the rest of the semester. She gives alot of homework, but if you actually do it, it will help alot in your understanding. The only thing that nearly got me in this class is that her midterms are alot harder than her chapter tests. The Vocab tests are give-mes. I mean, you can easily have a 108 average for you vocab quizzes and she drops a few. Plus she gives endless extra credit. If you can get over her, and just do the work, I think she is a good choice, it's just the getting over her part.   - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1401/1402 - ohhhhhh Kisacky. I love this teacher. She is very laid back and helpful to her students. I now have her for the third semester of Italian and I have the best time in there. Once you get to know her she is hilarious. Yes, the tests are hard, yes there is a lot of homework, but if you do it then you should understand whats going on. To make an A in the class you really really need to know your stuff. The great thing is that there are many extra credit options you can do to help get your grade up. She will call you out in class to make you talk, but if you have a good attitude about it then class is much more fun. She can be a little boring at times, but she gets her points across. Take her, but go to class and do your work.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2007-11-07

Comments:1402 - NO, NO, NO, NO!!! Don't do it!!! Take the other teacher!!! For your own good!!! She doesn't explain anything, and she is boring, boring, boring. I was a 4.0 student before her. Please take the other one.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:ITA 1401 - You've only got two choices for Italian profs, and whoever you take, you can rest easy knowing that you'll have a good one! I took Professoressa Kisacky and have really enjoyed our class...we have fun which definitely helps to offset the sometimes excessive homework that is necessary to learn the language adequately. Her tests aren't too bad, vocabulary quizzes every week, oral exams are fair and not too difficult. Beware the mid-terms, but if you put in a bit of studying you'll be golden.   - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2006-11-28

Comments:1401/02 - Dr. Kisacky is one of the nicest people I've met in my life. However, to make an A, you need to put in a pretty good amount of work. There is a homework assignment every night, and vocabulary quizzes on every chapter. The tests were not as hard as the homework. The oral exams are not that difficult; she tells you what to expect beforehand, and she's not intimidating at all. Take Italian with her if you can!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2005-01-31

Comments:ITA 1401 - Ahh, La Dottoressa Kisacky. Never a dull moment in this class. She truly loves the Italian language and does a great job of motivating students to perservere through grammar and difficult linguistic concepts. Let's face it: all languages are hard to learn (trust me, I'm a linguistics major). But Dr. Kisacky always keeps things interesting and helps students to appreciate the beauty of Italian language and culture. And as for helpfulness, you won't find a better professor (heck, she put up with me for 2 straight semesters!)  - Grade In Class:B
