Comments:REL 1310 - Dr. Holleyman is the BEST! Despite not being a religion major (I am undecided, but it's one of the things I'm considering), taking his section of Scriptures for NSE majors was absolutely the best. He is kind, engaging, funny, a good professor, knowledgeable about the material, and willing to work with us students. As a part of the NSE component, we had 5 dinners as his house throughout the semester, and he was such a gracious host, very welcoming and truly wanting to get to know each student. The class material is pretty straightfoward, there are four tests (including the final), daily quizzes over the Bible reading, and chapter synopsis summaries at the end of each section. Not an unfair amount of work at all, the reading isn't too time consuming or difficult. We also wrote a few papers (one book report and one exegesis paper) but as long as you don't wait until the last minute (ie the night before ) to write a super long paper, you'll be fine. Overall, would 10/10 recommend taking Dr. Holleyman. He is the best !!! - Grade In Class:A |

Comments:Rel 1310 - Going into this semester I never once read the bible. That's pretty much all this class is, which is why I was very nervous going into the class. Our only assignments are reading the bible and taking short online quizzes twice a week. Dr. Holleyman is an amazing man, he is so funny and a really nice guy. He is super passionate about religion and his class, however, his class is pretty difficult. He is the only religion professor with an SI due to how hard his class is. I got As on the first two tests because they were fairly vague, focusing more on just the storyline. The third test, over the gospels, was the hardest one for me. It was very detailed and specific about the differences of the gospels, so I struggled with it. Most students did fine on this test though. His final was about 50/50. Half of it being about storyline half of it being super detailed. Overall, I love Dr. Holleyman he was a great teacher, but his class was very difficult for me, and I struggled to understand why we need to know and learn about pointless bible facts that we (non-religion majors) will never need to use (such as authors of the books, dates, etc). I do believe for those who have read the bible before coming to this class (especially if you have read it multiple times), you will be fine. - Grade In Class:B |

Comments:REL1310 - I have a biblical background and grew up in private school. If you think you can just remember the stories, you're wrong. If you're like me, he will challenge you because he asks for details on tests. The homework quizzes aren't difficult, however his tests are another story. If you read all the assigned reading, you should be fine. The tests are multiple choice, however his multiple choice isn't "easy". An example of this would be during the Gospels test, he will give you a list of the Gospels for every answer choice, fair but difficult. Take notes BY HAND. You will remember less if you take them on the computer. Go to the SI as much as possible, even if you know the material. Study your notes for the test and use the SI review sessions. Tests can be difficult, but don't get discouraged, just be sure to read and take notes in class. - Grade In Class:B+ |

Comments:REL 1310 - Professor Holleyman was wonderful, and I would highly recommend him to anyone taking The Christian Scriptures. From what I hear, he is really the professor to get for this course. As far as daily workload, it wasn't bad at all. There are chapters assigned in the textbook, but the tests don't really come from those. The purpose of reading the textbook is really to help you understand what's going on and be prepared for lectures. When it came time for the tests, Holleyman posted Study Guides on Blackboard that told us about five or so questions we needed to know from each of the chapters in the textbook, so we knew exactly what to study from that. There are quizzes almost every day in class, but they are honestly very easy if you read the Bible reading assigned the class before. Only the best ten out of thirteen or so quizzes count. The tests were not difficult. They came mainly from Holleyman's lectures, and as long as you pay attention in class and take good notes, and really understand what he is talking about, you will do fine. I never had to study much. Be aware that the third test over the Gospels is probably the trickiest, but even that one wasn't bad in my opinion. All tests were multiple choice, with some matching.
Overall, Holleyman was a great professor. He really knew what he was talking about and made the material interesting. I went to see him during his office hours and found him very approachable and easy to talk to. In my opinion, Holleyman's class was a great experience, and I recommend taking him for REL 1310. I know I would take him again if I had the chance. - Grade In Class:A |

Comments:1310 - I loved Dr. Holleyman. He is a great teacher. He makes the class very interesting, so I was rarely, if ever, bored. The test are strictly multiple choice, and they are easy. They are almost totally based on the lectures, except for one or two questions on the reading. So, I rarely read. There were quizzes every Friday, but they were also easy. They were also completely based on the lectures, except for maybe one question on the reading. All the questions from the reading on both the tests and the quizzes are from study guides that are given to you. There is also a research paper, but it is only 4 pages. Also, only 18 of the 84 points were based on content. The class was great, and it was easy to make an A. Definitely take Dr. Holleyman. - Grade In Class:A |
