Comments:2303 - If her overall ratings don't tell you to steer clear of this woman's class, LET ME TELL YOU. I didn't come to Baylor and pay excessive amounts of money to literally teach myself accounting, and that's what I got. This woman has absolutely NO BUSINESS teaching online. If you're the type of person that can receive a packet of notes, give it a read through, and completely understand the already very difficult concepts of accounting, and THEN be expected to complete the difficult quizzes and homework assignments then by all means go for it. BUT if that doesn't sound like your ~cup of tea~ please do yourself a favor and take Carpenter (there's a reason his ratings are the best). I was so disappointed with this class because I was really interested in accounting prior to this semester and she completely ruined it for me. If I had not gone to every SI session I honestly don't think that I'd understand a THING about accounting (at least through Professor Willis' teachings). I'll play devil's advocate and say that because I didn't have her in-person, I can't give a full review, but if her in-person classes are anything like her online classes, good luck. I tried my butt of for this course, dumping time and money into studying and tutors in preparation for her tests with her so-called detailed reviews, and then the actual tests would use completely different terminologies and most of the things you studied wouldn't even be on the test. She totes her side-business (accounting practice) around as if that just greatly enhances her teaching ability, but in reality her lackluster teaching style just leaves you frustrated and confused. Do yourself a favor, from one student to another, and DON'T TAKE ACCOUNTING 2303 WITH BETSY WILLIS. - Grade In Class:C+ |

Comments:2303 - Betsy is a nice lady and a good person, however, I do not recommend taking her class for financial accounting. The work load for this class is AWFUL. You will have homework every night both written and online. I always did this and was somehow ALWAYS still unprepared for her class as she also wants you to do multiple voluntary questions that are poorly communicated. If you do take her class, GO TO SI. GO TO SI. Betsy will skip over concepts with the assumption that they will be learned in SI. Betsy's tests are also ridiculously hard. I wish I had known this early on, THE BEST WAY TO PREPARE FOR HER TESTS IS DOING HER (Very hard) OPTIONAL MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS for each chapter. Many of the test questions will be nearly identical (if not occasionally identical). If you are struggling early on, READ THE BOOK (I know, it kinda sucks). Reading the book makes everything more sensible. If you take this class, a higher grade is not unobtainable, however, you will have to work for every point. Do the optional extra credit practices, they are for 5 points on the tests and you are going to NEED them. Good luck! - Grade In Class:B |

Comments:2303 - To start, I am a freshman Business Fellow and was one of the four freshmen in the class. This automatically put me on a pedestal in Mrs. Willis's eyes. Her class is very, very time consuming. I would spend an average of about nine hours a week on her homework. That was only doing the required homework. She assigns a ton of extra, busy work that you are supposed to have completed before class. If you do not complete this, she will call you out if she gets to you. She offers a TON of extra credit. Each test, she gives an assignment worth five points to be added to that test. This extra credit saved my grade in the long haul. My test grades were: B,A,C,A and an 88 on the final. I ended up getting a 98% in the homework category which is a nice bumper as well. My final grade was a 91.84 which in her class is an A. Summary: Be prepared to teach yourself a lot, do the extra credit, and get on a personal level with her real quick and you'll be just fine! Good luck! - Grade In Class:A |

Comments:Financial - Ms Willis is a lady who has no sympathy for students who do not come to class prepared. She frequently goes around the room to ask students what they got for homework problems (ungraded homework problems.... so nobody does them... but you should). She gets irritated if you don't have the right answer too, but not as irritated if you don't have it at all. The worst thing you can say in her class is "I didn't do it" or "I don't have it". You have some homeworks that are graded (the ones on the syllabus) and that usually helps your grade. Other than the written homework (5%), the rest of your grade consists of myaccountinglab (5%), tests (4, 18% each) and the final (cumulative also 18%). She does offer a lot of extra credit on tests (I got 17 points total, and lots of people got more than that). Her grading scale is nice too- her minus's are like 88-89s. You should defiantly buy the book because that is where the class prep comes out of each day. She organizes her classes by outlines she creates (which are very helpful) and while y'all are working through them (read: frantically copying down what she wrote and is showing you on the overhead) she tells you which will be test questions (my recommendation: star or highlight all of these, then re-print the outline with only the stared/highlighted questions/material on it and make sure you can work through them. The more stuff you print out in this class and more you work through the problems, the better your grade will be. The tests are also pretty long, so make sure you work fast! Her class is defiantly manageable, and don't be afraid to ask questions if you don't understand (she will like you more if you ask questions, plus you will actually understand the material). I gave her availability a 2 only because her office hours were always during my class times, but you can still set up an appointment with her. - Grade In Class:A |

Comments:ACC2304 - I'm here to up vote Mrs. Willis. She's NOT that terrible as some one else described, and I feel she's kinda like my granny: kind and nice but strict with my study. As an international student it is really hard for me to catch up with other classmates at the beginning, and Mrs' Willis doesn't use PowerPoint shows, she illustrate concepts by projecting her handouts. Her handwriting is in cursive, which is even harder for me o recognize. However, after the first exam, I thought I found the key to do better. All you need to do to success in this course is doing class preps, finishing all the assignments, and attend SI (Supplemental Instruction)sessions as many as possible, since it's kinda hard to cover everything in a 50 minute class, and to be honest I feel the SI mentor explains the concepts more clear and in detail than Mrs. Willis. Her workload is pretty heavy, but totally acceptable -- that's the nature of this course, the more you practice the better grades you can get. And finally, she can replace your lowest exam grade with the final grade,(I got like 78 on the first exam, but I still got an A at the end) and she DOES OFFER many extra credit opportunities. Anyway, if you can do your part, it's not difficult to get an A! - Grade In Class:A |

Comments:ACC 2303 - First off, Ms. Willis loves accounting and she's very passionate about the subject. Her availability is pretty good and she'll treat you respectfully. That being said, Willis ruined my life. If you're reading this, you're required to take this class, so you don't have any easy alternatives. Sit in the front, complete all of the homework even though it seems like there is way too much to complete, get a TUTOR, and read the test questions VERY CAREFULLY. I'm not trying to scare you away because you have nowhere to run to. I ran home crying (literally) after the first test, drank myself into oblivion, and skipped the entire next day of classes to lie in bed and think about where my life was going, but the tests get easier as the semester unfolds. Best of luck to you!! Maybe I'll see you in this class in the Spring :) - Grade In Class:D |

Comments:2303 - Mrs. Willis is certainly not the nicest professor, but if you cannot get into Abbe’s class for financial accounting, she is probably your second best bet. Mrs. Willis limits out some of the harder material from some of the chapters in the textbook that other professors still cover. As you have probably heard, accounting is a difficult class. It is paramount that you work super hard and understand everything up through the first test because that is when you will cover the fundamentals of accounting. If you don’t grasp these concepts in the begging, the rest of the course will not make sense. The secret to doing well in this class is to do all of your homework, make sure you understand the homework, and to go to the supplemental instruction sessions. The SI sessions can be very helpful in gaining an understanding of the material and for getting help on the homework. I would recommend trying to attend all that you can. Mrs. Willis moves extremely fast through the material in class, and I actually learned most of the material from the SI sessions. I wouldn’t recommend utilizing Mrs. Willis’s office hours because she is not a very patient person and doesn’t take the necessary time to explain concepts. She will just make you feel like a complete fool in her office, and you will come out feeling upset and discouraged. If you don’t understand something, I would meet up with the SI instructor. The tests consist of a multiple-choice section and then a work out problem. The largest downside to the exams are that they are really long, and it is easy to run out of time in a fifty minute class period. Try spending only twenty minutes on the multiple-choice and then saving the rest of the time for the workout problem. I would especially recommend this strategy on the first test because the workout problem is very long and hard. The workout problem is usually similar to the class exercises or the class competition problem, and Mrs. Willis will always tell you which chapter it comes from. The final in the class is comprehensive and difficult. Try to make good grades on the first four tests so that you have a high average going into the final. Mrs. Willis does offer a lot of extra credit on the tests. Some of it takes a while but you are simply doing more practice for the test, so I would recommend taking advantage of all opportunities. The 5 points extra credit on each test can really help out your average. Try to also go to class as much as you can, and always do the class prep for each class. You will be called on during class to give your answers to the class prep questions, and you lose participation points if you have not completed the assignment. If you are a chamber man, you are pretty much extremely favored in this class. The best way to study for each test is simply to rework problems on the class exercises, SI handouts, and to do the extra credit assignment as a final review. Hit the ground running working hard, and you will do fine. - Grade In Class:A |
