Comments:Germany in The Making - I do not understand why she has a good rating. Do not take this class if you are not a minor, really good at history, or in the BIC. Took this to fill my last language requirement and was told it was about culture (and was an easy A), IT IS NOT. She can not teach, reads from outdated slides. She never responded to multiple emails. Quizzes every class over 30+ pages of reading asking for the most obscure detail. Tests are way too hard. This should not even be offered as a way to fill a language requirement because its truly a history class. Shame on Baylor for removing the special language programs, and for ever suggesting this as an alternative to me. From someone who has never gotten lower than an A- in all of college.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:BIC 1324 - I loved Dr. McGlashan's class!! She is such a great professor and while BIC workload is always a lot, her in class discussions were super fun and engaging! I don't think she is an extremely hard grader in that she is not nit picky with minute errors in an essay. She is more of a holistic grader, which I loved because it allows for students to receive useful feedback (instead of feedback like you forgot a comma in a timed essay kinda thing). That in mind, this is not a class you can just breeze by without doing work. If you put in the work, you will get a good grade. HIGHLY recommend her for World Cultures 2. After being in BIC for almost a year now, I can say that Dr. McGlashan is definitely my favorite BIC professor.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:3341 - TAKE HER TAKE HER TAKE HER. Dr. Mac is an amazing professor. I am by no means a history student at all but her class was so interesting and a great take on a language course. It is taught in english and you get to learn all about the beginning to present day of Germany. Dr. Mac knows that not every student of hers is from the history or language background and she understands every student has different learning styles. She implements her awareness of such by giving many different ways for students to learn. There are open discussion boards, videos with either a one paper reflection or multiple choice questions, quizzes on the readings from the textbooks (must buy!), as well as 3 exams which she gives study guides for and a final project. The final project is the only downside to this class. It consists of a 8-14 page papers as well as a presentation on the research you conducted on some point of German history. Try to figure out early on what you want your project to be on and work on it little by little throughout the semester because it is overwhelming to try to do the whole thing at the end of the semester (trust me I waited lol). Besides the project though the class truly is an amazing way to learn about a culture and its history while gaining credits for a language course that is taught in English. Highly recommend especially if you have a hard time learning languages!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1301 - One of the best teachers I have had at Baylor. She goes out of her way to understand where you are having difficulties with the language, and then she relinquishes the issue. She's a very fair grader and her turnaround on assignments is very quick. Be prepared to participate. She will randomly call on you. THIS IS a good thing.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:Germany in the Making - Y'all, I totally recommend taking her class just for her Scottish accent- it is so lovely. Anyways, there are quizzes every day based off of the reading. It was hard to get a 100% even if you do all the reading. She only drops two for the entire semester. The questions on the exams are multiple choice and short answer, and some come from the quizzes. 10% of your grade is watching videos and filling out worksheets or writing one page responses. At the end, there is the final project that takes a lot of time. It is an essay -10 to 12 pages on one question that you formulate yourself, and a short presentation over your paper. Her final isn't really even comprehensive - there is a multiple choice with a final comprehensive, creative essay. I got a B because I am a bad test taker, but it's definitely doable to get an A  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:4320 - I've had Dr. Mac a few times and I'm only writing a review because I saw some reviews that were totally wrong about her. She's a wonderful teacher, she's dedicated (always in class even when her health was not wonderful) and she's beyond fair... Almost too forgiving to her students. Her tests never have any surprises-straight from the book(fill in the blank usually), and if you go to class you actually learn a great deal. I even missed doing a majority of the homework assignments and could still catch on during class and speak up when she went around the room for answers. Absolutely take her.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:WC2 - She Is one of the hardest professors I'v ever had she showed no interest in her student, yes shes nice and all but she really isn't any help whatsoever she is never understanding of situations concerning absences or late work and you can never see her in her office she is always to busy and when she is there she is on the phone and we have to wait forever i regret the day i signed up for her class.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:BIC 1324 - Dr. McGlashan is a great lecturer, but not the best small group professor. Our small group discussions tend to fall flat and be more surface level analysis with each class starting with 'what did you find interesting' and generally sticking with that. She is obviously really smart, but I do not think that small group was the best it could be (maybe that's just because I had Whitlark previously and he taught much differently). She gave us foreign snacks on our last day of class so that was cool (she's definitely nice). On the essays in class for exams she is really chill and doesn't even require an introduction or conclusion, and she usually gives a bit of extra time for exams if you take forever on them, so that's nice. Her grading seems to be consistent with the level of grading from World Cultures I. Overall, I liked her so it's nice if she is your professor, but there may be a better professor that you can choose.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:BIC4389 - McGlashan was a fantastic professor for BIC Capstone. She and Dr. Tatum did a wonderful job of stimulating our thoughts, as well as class discussion. I really can't speak highly enough of the class and this professor's ability to teach.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3341 - Germany in the Making is a fantastic class, and Dr. McGlashan does a wonderful job teaching it! The information is fascinating, but she does a great job in keeping it from becoming too overwhelming. She gives quizzes almost every day based off of the reading. Even though I did my reading every time, there always seemed to be one question I would miss! I found it immensely frustrating, but it was also a great challenge to read more thoroughly. So beware - the quizzes are evil!! However, the tests are MUCH easier - the questions are multiple choice and short answer, and they are much more general than those on the quizzes. 10% of your grade is basically free - you have to watch 8 episodes of a German miniseries on German history and fill out a really basic multiple choice worksheet, and then you have to watch 2 movies (she offers suggestions in class) and write a short paper (2 double-spaced pages) tying it into the class. The most work-intensive part of the class for me was the paper. You have to write 10 to 12 pages on one question that you have concerning one specific aspect of German history. It sounds a bit terrifying, but its really not that bad. The nice thing is that you can pick almost any topic that interests you. The last week of the semester, she has everyone give a short presentation (7-8 minutes) on their paper. It a lot of fun to see what everyone else wrote about, and it means that there is no HW for the last week of class! Her final isn't really even comprehensive - there is a multiple choice/short answer section that covers the last section of the course, and then there is a final essay which is somewhat comprehensive, but it also allows you to be creative. If you've been paying attention in class, its not something to stress about. This is a great class with an outstanding professor - I would highly recommend it! Plus, she has an amazing Scottish accent!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:BIC 4389 - Capstone: David, Jesus, and King Arthur - Dr. Tatum and Dr. McGlashan tag team this course, and it's fantastic. We read the biblical accounts of David and Jesus, along with modern retellings to look at how the stories have changed over time and what parts of the stories were emphasized during different time periods (Victorian, feminist, etc.). Same with the Arthur stories - we read Morte d'Arthur, plus excerpts from the Mists of Avalon and Alfred Lord Tennyson's poetry. At the end of the course we read Rilke's Letter's to a Young Poet (so good!) and excerpts from some of Anne Lamott's books. Class discussion was great. Each month there were two mandatory movie nights + discussion afterward. It was kind of a pain at the time, but I'm glad we did it. Among the movies we watched were Jesus Christ Superstar and Jesus of Montreal. The movie nights added a lot to the class. You also have to do 5 outside learning activities, but BICers are used to that. Tests are fairly straightforward if you've read and come to class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Ger 3341 - Dr. Mcglashan is a great history teacher, I took her for Germany in the Making, it is wonderful because it is a History class taught in English. The class is not mind numbing, but be preapared to work. You are expected to write a 10+ page paper, and a class presentation on that paper, daily quizzes, fill in the blank tests. Not too stressful, but be glad the class is not taught in german! ;-)  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1401 - Class is fun, quizzes sometimes; yet I get the feeling no-one knows what's going on at times. She's ok, but I found it difficult. Tests are forumlaic, and the her methods are different from the book.   - Grade In Class:C

Comments:Daily Homework and lots of vocab quizzes but a lot of fun for beginning german. I got an A pretty easily. Some people have a little trouble because the language is hard but if you do the homework and go to class its an easy A. Great scottish accent.
