*A 5 star workload is an easy workload; a 3 star is average; whereas a 1 star workload is extremely hard.
Comments:1300 - I feel conflicted about what I'm about to say since this professor is genuinely amazing. I chose to take his class because of his great reviews, and while I tried to give it a fair chance, I found the class to be more stressful than I expected for a core class. He’s a good professor, and his lectures are mostly engaging. The exams, which were online with a lockdown browser but no webcam, were somewhat manageable. However, what really stressed me out were the weekly textbook reading quizzes. Each week’s reading assignment was around 60 pages, and the quizzes afterward were only 10 minutes long with 10 multiple-choice questions. As someone with poor reading comprehension, I struggled to get through the readings, especially since it was history material. On top of that, there were three full book reviews, each worth 10% of the final grade, totaling 30%. The expectations for these papers were unusually high, which made the workload feel overwhelming. I was also dealing with personal issues that affected my academic performance, which likely contributed to my struggles, but honestly, it was a lot to manage. If you're able to handle the heavy workload, enjoy reading, and have strong reading comprehension skills, you’ll likely do well and enjoy the class. The professor is genuinely kind and supportive, but for me, it was just too much. - Grade In Class:DROP
Comments:1300 - Professor Porsche is the best teacher ive had so far. He cares so much about his students and makes learning so much fun. He doesn't call on you really but likes an active class for sure. You have weekly quizzes, and all our tests are online at home, which is so nice. He's actually my favorite human... I hope he drives a Porsche, tbh. TAKE HIMMMMM!!! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1300 - He made learning history extremely fun. Every class he would start off by talking about his kids and how they played soccer and just as he would share about his personal life he loved to hear how everyone was doing. Homework wasn't that bad nor were the 3 tests that were not cumulative. we did have weekly quizzes but they were very easy as long as you paid attention in class. would recommend he is the best history teacher I have ever had. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1300 - HIS 1300- I LOVE PROFESSOR PORSCHE!! He is the sweetest man ever and his class was SO easy. There was barely any work besides a weekly take home quiz which was 10 questions and based on a weekly reading from the American yawp textbook. There was also a discussion board once in a while over a short prompt he gave, it was super easy and took 5 mins. There are 3 tests, no final. His tests were about 24 questions with a short answer essay portion which was over a book we were supposed to read (I didn't read it). The tests were take home on lockdown, and open note. Though they were open note his lecture slides weren't extremely helpful, but the questions were pretty straightforward so the lectures were not really needed. There were two essays, one perspective essay which was 1-2 pages long, and a 5-6 page long pick your path essay. He is a super easy grader and I got a 95+ on both essays. There is also an extra cred essay worth 50 points which I suggest to do, because it can bring ur grade up like a whole point and it was so easy to do and took an hour to finish. I ended the class with a 98 so I highly suggest him!! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1300 - i hateee to give him a bad review because he is SOOO SWEET ,like seriously he is one of the best professors i've had a baylor , but the class consisted of 3 exams with an essay in each and 2 essays but he grades really difficulty for the essays considering it isnt an english class , im not the best writer but i scored higher grades in my writing class. The exams are open note and you can find every answer on his powerpoint slides but don't let that tempt you because it is SO HARD TO FIND THE ANSWER because his slides are wordy and 70 slides. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:HIS 1300 - DO NOT TAKE!!!! Not sure why he was rated so high, I do not recommend. He doesn't have slides that are helpful on the test. They are open-note tests but they do not help. There is a pick-your-path essay (5-6 pages) at the end of the course, he grades it very hard and very specific. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1385 - This man is the definition of an easy A, but he still makes the class a ton of fun. His exams are super straightforward. Super nice guy, and always loves to talk about the great state of Pennsylvania (he's from Lancaster). He also provides a lot of extra credit (that is how I finished with a 100% in the class), but you probably won't need it. I appreciated that he always wanted to get to know every person in the class. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:HIS 1300 - Pretty straightforward class. The workload is nothing crazy, you get assigned about an hour of reading from this free online textbook called the American YAWP and have a 10 question lockdown browser quiz over it for most of the weeks. Even if you take notes, there’s still usually some questions over something oddly specific like a name or number. There’s also 4-5 of these very easy threaded discussions every couple weeks, where he provides you with some primary source readings/documents and makes you write a paragraph or two and then respond to 2 others. There were only 2 tests throughout the semester, plus the final and even though they are on Lockdown, they are all open note and I found it easiest to just transfer my notes to my phone or take pictures of them. You also had to read a full book before each of the tests because there is an essay question that is worth a 1/3 of the test and is one of those you can’t really make up. The last big thing is the pick your path essay due right before Thanksgiving break, where he gives you 2 larger options to go with the paper, but then a bunch of niche categories within both choices, such as writing about the Magna Carta or a presidential speech. It’s only 4-5 pages and requires 1200 words, but he didn’t really even mention it until a few weeks before it was due, which was frustrating. As for the lectures themselves, they’re pretty bland and kinda scattered. It seemed weird to me that our YAWP readings were always way ahead of the content covered in class lectures, even though both were meant to go chronologically. Content also gets repeated often and we would go back in time for seemingly no reason. The slides are also sped through, which I get since we have to cover so much in so little time, but aside from some rare instances of explicit clarification, I never knew what was important enough for my notes and what wasn’t. I would recommend just writing pretty much everything down, since before each test, he would release a study guide with a ton of topics that you can just copy and paste the info straight from your notes. Overall, his teaching style could use some work, but he’s a nice guy and it’s an easy class so I would recommend it. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1365 - Take Dr. Porsche. He is such a gem. He is a fantastic teacher and constantly has his class engaged, while also being generous with extra credit, having open note tests, and giving a lot of participation points. He makes history an easy topic to discuss and made me excited to go to class everyday. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:HIS 1300 - Professor Porsche is great. He is such a nice guy and he genuinely wants to get to know everyone in the class. He does his best to keep the class engaged and does have a lot of participation opportunities which can be annoying, but the guy is so sweet that you'll want to raise your hand. His tests aren't too difficult but there was quite a bit of reading that you would have to do beforehand because the essay questions were based on whatever book you were supposed to have read in your free time. Overall though, super helpful and willing to work with you if you need anything. Highly recommend. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1300 - I Love professor Porsche. Despite the often boring course content, you can tell through his lectures that he is very passionate about the subject and tries his best to engage everyone throughout as he recognized that everyone in the class was taking it out of requirement. There was typically a discussion board or reflection question every week. Spend a little bit more time on the reflection questions as he tends to grade those slightly harder. The only frustrating aspect of the course was the reading. Every week there were assigned readings from the American YAWP as well as 3 different books attached to each unit. I didn't read the yawp once because I thought that was too much reading for a gen ed and the books were lengthy as well so I didn't read the entirety of any of them. However, I would recommend that you get a general understanding of each book before the exam as the essay portion was a significant part of each exam. His tests are online and open note with no lockdown browser. However, most questions weren't just googlable so I recommend coming prepared. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:HIS 1300 - I would recommend anyone to take HIS 1300 with Professor Porsche. He's a great guy, an enjoyable teacher, and is willing to work with his students. The tests can be tough as they cover a lot of material and require a short essay in response to a book, but they're mostly multiple choice and you do them on your own (1 hour and 30 minutes). The best part is he makes them open-note and open-PowerPoint (which is where most of the answers are). There's also an essay that makes up a decent portion of your grade, but he is a fair grader- if you put the work in you'll do fine. He also offers plenty of extra credit and usually curves exams, so if you do get behind, it's not hard to get your grade up. Overall, he's very understanding of students, has reasonable expectations for the class, and makes history fun to learn about. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:HIS 1300 - I loved Professor Porsche, he was so kind and it was really fun to be in his class. the material could be a little dry but that wasn't his fault, its just a basic history class. You don't really need to read the books or any of the readings he assigns in-depth, you can basically just skim them. All his exams were open-book, open-note, online and you take them whenever you want on exam day and he cancels class on exam days. He had some discussion posts and reflections but they were easy and he was also pretty forgiving with late work if you are just honest with him about the scenario, even if you just forgot to do an assignment, he would typically give you until a certain time the same day its due to finish it up and email it to him. He also gave us a ton of extra credit which was super nice. Take him for this course over anyone else, he is the best professor for this course. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1300 - Dr. Porsche is not only an incredible professor, but he also cares about you and wants you to succeed. He is extremely passionate about history and is very fair when it comes to grading. There is a lot of reading, as comes with any History course, however, as long as you pay attention in the lecture and remember the topics discussed, earning an A is easy. The tests are not made to trick you, and the questions are very straightforward and mostly cover what was talked about in class. He will also curve grades if a question had a lot of people who missed it. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1300 - Professor Porsche is the best! He is super passionate about history, but does not expect you to be the same way so the class is engaging without being over challenging. He is also super understanding and helpful if you're having issues with something. There are 3 tests, online, open note, not cumulative, mostly mulitple choice with a few short answer questions of typing out a definition he gave you in class, and one essay based on a book you read in class. There are weekly readings that you can skim to get an understadning of what will be talked about in class, but the test is not based on it specifically. There is also a weekly assignment of either a discussion post or a short reflection question. If you follow the syllabus and do your assignments you will do fine in the class, it is not that bad. Compared to other professors too, Porsche is the nicest and most reasonable workload. - Grade In Class:A
