*A 5 star workload is an easy workload; a 3 star is average; whereas a 1 star workload is extremely hard.
Comments:1301 - She is extreamly helpful and answers emails super quickly. There is a lot of online homework and you are expected to know the material (mostly vocabulary) before coming to class. She is so kind and is a great professor when it comes to explaining things; she is also super great with scheduling one-on-one help. I am hoping to take her next level next semester. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:SPA 1301 - This was a super fun class! I'm a big fan of Spanish and don't mind having to take it to fill up my language requirements, but if you're someone who's a little less enthusiastic, don't worry this class is still enjoyable and easy. Prof Escamilla is a great teacher! She's really, very nice and cares a great deal for her students. You can tell she wants her students to succeed and is not a very harsh grader+always gives helpful feedback. The workload in this class was doable and helps aid to the lecture content. VHL is a bit tedious because it's so specific on the grammar+syntax of sentences/other actives but it really does help for exams, quizzes, lectures, etc. There's an oral assessment at the end of the semester that seems intimidating and scary but it's not. Prof Escamilla is really easy to talk to as she's just so approachable/welcoming and doesn't make students feel bad for making mistakes. So, meeting with her to speak is a breeze. Plus, she gives a study guide/list of her expectations and criteria for the oral so you shouldn't be going to her office feeling unprepared. All-in-all, take Prof Escamilla! She's very knowledgeable about Spanish and teaches it well, not to mention she's just super fun and sweet! I actually looked forward to going to lecture with her. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:SPA 1301 - Professor Escamilla is truly the sweetest lady who cares so much about her students and wants them to succeed! I am very glad I took her. I had zero Spanish experience and I got above a 95 on all her exams. However, remember that learning a language is hard and requires effort and memorization. Before coming to class, make sure you are familiar with the vocab and grammar. She moves through her lecture slides very quickly and class time is mostly spent practicing the material (practicing with a partner, crosswords, etc.) She also will call on people to answer questions! The homework she assigns can be really time-consuming, but she is very available if you have questions. There are also occasional in-class quizzes or short essays, however she will always tell you beforehand what to study or what you are expected to write about. Her exams (there is an oral and written portion) are very straight forward in my opinion (if you put in the effort to study and learn the vocab), and she will provide a study guide. She also would play a game of jeopardy with us and give extra credit to the winning team! Overall, Spanish can be a time consuming and tricky course (as with any language) but I am glad I took Professor Escamilla! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:SPA 1301 - Besides the VISTA HW (you can find everything on quizlet), there is little to no work in this class. She makes you participate every class period and this helps a lot for her quizzes and exams. They are all straight forward. I had zero Spanish background (I took French in HS) and zero effort. I made a B because of my lack of effort in the lab section or else it would have been an A. I learned so much and very well prepared for other Spanish classes. If you just go to class and participate, you will be prepared for her exams and quizzes. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:2310 - I loved her class! I legit did not have to study that hard for her tests because her lecture style is so good. I could not have asked for a better professor for a conversational Spanish course like this one. Her teaching methods are a lot of active learning strategies, so you do have to participate in class. I feel like the more you participate and volunteer to speak during the exercises, the more you learn in this class. She was always so encouraging, nonjudgmental, and fun with everyone. Her tests are mostly a lot of writing sentences and sometimes paragraphs towards the end of the semester. She grades super nicely, never takes off for minor mistakes like accents/spellings, and sometimes gives extra points. I don't know if she will teach 2310 again but please TAKE HER! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1301 - 1301 - Profesora Escamilla is one of the most kind Spanish teachers. She truly wants you to succeed as a student and is more than willing to help students with classwork and understanding. Escamilla let me take the listening and writing part of the exam in person in her office, which is thought was very kind and understanding. She is such a joy and so much fun to take for Spanish I. Do your homework, may attention in class, and get to know her, and Spanish I will be enjoyable. The tests are super straight forward and my lowest was a B with pretty minimal studying. Spanish at Baylor is demanding but Escamilla makes it understandable and straightforward. - Grade In Class:A
