*A 5 star workload is an easy workload; a 3 star is average; whereas a 1 star workload is extremely hard.
Comments:1301 - Such a great professor! I did take AP Chem in highschool but I wasn't the greatest at it. Most of the material was still fresh on my mind so that definitely put me at an advantage to other students, but regardless her teaching was great. I felt that I had much more solidified knowledge of Chem 1 and could better explain concepts. She gives lots of real world references in class which I found really helpful. She does assign a fairly heavy amount of work, but it's over a 2 week period so it just feels like a lot when you cram it in the day its due (I did that). She's VERY available for office hours and does extra credit on all tests partial credit on quizzes. It does feel like she goes through material fast, but I feel like most of that is just the load of the curriculum. She truly wants you to succeed and makes it clear what the expectations are for you to do so. It's not the easiest but it's definitely manageable and there are so many resources for you to succeed--if you took AP Chem and did fairly well in it I would say you're pretty much set for an A (my opinion). She also works closely with her SIs so I highly recommend at least doing their practice worksheets/tests as some of the questions correlate to test questions. Chem isn't an easy subject and no matter who you get as a professor you're gonna have to sit with the material and practice to really understand, but Stover definitely knows what she's doing, teaches well, and wants your success, so take her if you can. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1301 - I love Mrs. Stover, very nice and outgoing, and clearly very smart. Her only downside is the course load, it is a lot of homework between the tophat and Activ, but I totally would recommend. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1301 & 1302 - Dr. Stover is a sweetheart. Truly one of the best professors I've had at Baylor. She is incredibly organized, posting daily announcements to let us know where we're at and what HW we need to complete to stay on track. The AKTIV and TopHat questions are light. You can have a certain amount of tries to get full credit. If you're stumped, Dr. Stover has office hours during which she'll gladly help explain the problem. She's not condescending at all; she just has a naturally sarcastic and witty personality. Don’t be intimidated by some of these comments; she genuinely cares, and it is so apparent in how she conducts her course. I think it’s easy for some students to criticize professors teaching a more rigorous course. There are 4 tests and a final in both her chem 1 and 2 courses. They are more than fair, and she gives a lot of grace with partial credit. On average, there are around 3 quizzes per test (give or take one), and those are also surface-level. I tended not to perform as well on those because I usually study content a day or two before tests (my fault hehe). Still, she gives participation credit on the quizzes and the opportunity to put in two answers for partial credit in the event you’re between two answer choices. Quizzes are almost always multiple choice with a few exceptions to some problems depending on the content (Lewis structures and atomic theory are the two quizzes I remember having a free response question for). Tests are both MCQ and free response with a bonus opportunity. She’s a great lecturer and tests from her slides. The book corresponds to the slides, but she won’t surprise you with something that wasn't on there. Dr. Stover doesn’t allow graphing calculators (smart imo), so you have to get a smaller calc that’s cheaper. I used a TI-30X, which took some getting used to because I’m very proficient with my TI-84 and tend to just do all my work in my calculator without writing much down. It was a slight hindrance to me, but all was still well. Work is super important to show, so I’m glad I was forced out of my comfort zone. Additionally, the MCAT doesn’t allow calculators, so if you’re premed, less reliability is important. I couldn’t recommend my queen enough. If you put in the work (whether you took AP or not) and listen to her recommendations, the world is your oyster. Dr. Stover gives you everything you need to get an A, and I couldn’t recommend her enough!! :) - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - Dr. Stover is truly the best. She is such a kind professor, she understands that the course is difficult, but she really wants you to succeed. I struggled in this course, but that was my own fault. Dr. Stover is so available, and she honestly wants you to come to office hours. She even has candy in her office and asks you to take some every time you leave. You don't have to be good at chem to do well in this course, because I'm definitely not. You might not make an A, but you really could if you wanted to put in the effort. I would go to SI, office hours, and go over her powerpoints multiple times. Take notes in class and follow along, especially during the calculations. Do the homework, like actually do it. It will really help you when it comes to the exam. You can succeed in this class, but you'll need to put in effort. Go over the material when class is over, take time at least a week before to start studying, and be patient with yourself. You'll be fine. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:CHE 1301 - Dr. Stover is honestly an outstanding professor; she knows how to teach and how to lecture-they are different. Teaching is being able to show students they why and how something works; lecturing is just telling them it works, and she does both quite well. She makes connections for you in class (analogies and such) that really make sense if you listen. Her office hours are helpful as well given her ability to find where you went wrong and fix it. The only "complaint" I'd have is how she comes off; she is quite blunt and to-the-point, which is good, in most cases, but she can come off as nonchalant and abrasive sometimes. I'm sure she's a kind person, but she just should work on being happier with her students; she doesn't smile often, which is sometimes worrying. Other than that, she's great. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - For this class, I didn't have a hard time understanding the content, but more so it was the math problems. The content itself was easy to understand because her powerpoint were very helpful, but she just didn't seem to explain the math well. When I went to office hours and asked questions, she would answer me in a condescending way as if it were so easy. She is a great person don't get me wrong, but after hours of studying and doing practice problems just to see that I did poorly on an exam was disappointing. Especially since I used every class material she provided and extra work found in the textbook. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:1301/1302 - If I could give her a 6 in availability, I would. She will not go easy on you in content, but she is stellar in communication and organization. Her policies are more than fair. She's very chill and will not make you feel bad for not having come into office hours all semester. SI/practice problems are a lifesaver; read ahead and use lecture to solidify. 1302 is much harder than 1301 (A). - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1301 AND 1302 - (For clarity, I put my CHE 1302 grade in for the "Grade In Class". In 1301, I received an A). I enjoy Dr. Stover's lecture so much! While it is Chemistry and it's an already hard subject, I came into Baylor already taking AP Chemistry, so it was a fairly easy transition. I highly encourage you to take Dr. Stover for 1301, however, 1302 is a LOT rougher and I felt like her teaching performance showed a lot of knowledge to teach 1301 but NOT 1302. I had to put in less effort than others, but that didn't mean I didn't have to study as some of her exam questions came directly from a term/math problem (with changed numbers) from her slides. She is a lectured-based professor, so make sure you go to class! While I won't discuss much grading since some reviews are accurate in Quizzes and Exam grading (Participation Points and "110 points but capped at 105" respectively), make sure to always stay engaged in her announcements and lectures as you WILL find an extra credit option at some point in the semester. Overall, a great person, and HIGHLY recommended her for 1301 (and 1302 if you like her, but again, I didn't find 1302 that good). - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1302 - I absolutely adore Dr. Stover. She takes care to explain topics thoroughly in her lectures, and she works through problems with the class regularly. She makes the class very engaging, and she has a lot of good energy while teaching--you can tell she really cares about the subject. While her tests and quizzes can be a bit difficult, it's no different from any other introductory chemistry course. She gives ample partial credit on her exams, and on quizzes (which are only 5 questions) she gives opportunities for partial credit by allowing you to rank 2 answers. Exams have 10 points of extra credit built in. The tests did take a long time to complete, and I know some people were unable to finish all of them, but again, the same could be said for exams in other 1302 classes. There are four exams as well as a comprehensive final, and you get one drop test. There are about 10 quizzes throughout the semester, and you get to drop 3 of those. Take advantage of the homework, the recommended textbook questions, and SI and you'll do great! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - Garbage professor. I'll start with the syllabus, which seems nice, which was the reason why I decided to take this class. Grades are mostly determined by 4 exams plus the final, which are each equally weighted 20 percent. There is one drop exam, which is always a benefit. Then there is a weekly quiz, which makes up 10 percent of grade. Finally HW makes up the remaining 10 percent. Every exam has a total of 110 points, but she caps at 105. This seems really nice at first, with 10 percent of extra credit available for every exam, but do not be deceived. Some of the worst exam grading I have ever had the displeasure of feasting my eyes upon. There are usually 5-6 short answer questions, and you have to show full work, otherwise, even if you get the correct answer, she will start deducting ridiculous amounts of points for the most miniscule things, such as not boxing your answer. I have lost 1-2 on numerous problems for not showing a simple addition step, like 2 plus 2. She will write comments like, where did this number come from, like obviously I pulled it out of my ass. To continue with her unfair grading policy, she definitely grades everyones short answer problems on a different scale, most probably a scale on how much you such her dick. I have seen some people get the entire question wrong, like all the work and answer are far from correct, and she will only deduct 1 point for an 8 question problem. 7/8 points rewarded for nothing correct lmao. Then again I will get everything correct except sig figs and then get deducted 3 points. Next, some of her multiple choice questions are just wrong. The answers directly contradict what is said in her slides and the textbook. Moving on to quizzes. I have had questions that are actually impossible to solve, have brought it up to her in office hours, she replies with "I would never put a question like that on an quiz or exam," I proceed to show her, then she continues to deny that she put that on her quiz. Finally to cap off, if you dare miss one of her glorious lectures, then she gets pissed off and emails you asking why you are absent. So if you like going to boring, meaningless, shitty lectures, and on top of that like shitty exams and grading policies, then this is the professor for you. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:CHE 1301 - Professor Stover is a great professor. She makes class very engaging and explains material very clearly. She is very fair with her grading and gives many opportunities to earn dropped grades. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:CHE 1301 - Dr. Stover is a great professor in how she teaches the material. She explains it in a manner that is very understandable and when it comes to math portions she does multiple examples in class to help you understand. She records all of her lectures and is very available to answering questions and has lots of office hours. Her tests are pretty difficult, consisting of 5 true/false questions, about 10 multiple choice and 10 free response which were sometimes fill in the blanks. She has 4 tests, one which she drops which is good because everyone always has that one bad test or subject they struggle with. The worst part of the class was the weekly quizzes which were pretty difficult and were like little mini tests that stressed you out. I hated them, but as long as you're good with keeping consistent with the material you'll be fine. The final is very difficult and definitely time consuming in your studying as it is cumulative, 20% from each of the 4 tests and the last 20% from the unit you learn coming back from Thanksgiving break. The most important thing is to review your past tests and quizzes because she uses similar and even the same questions. The average on the final was still a 72, and it’s weighted 20% so you just have to work hard because her exams are difficult. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:CHE 1301 - Love Dr. Stover, she is a great prof that explains concepts through analogies and really breaks them down. She also goes over lots of examples in class that are very similar to the ones in the homework (which is tedious, but doable) and the exam. There are weekly quizzes which are painful, but she does drop two or so. A good grade is possible, if you are committed to work for it. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - (Grade edit- I'll probably end with an A-) Dr. Stover is a good teacher, she explains things well, although she moves an at incredible pace. The HW is not awful and tends to be very relevant to what you are learning. The problem with this class is tests. They are not unreasonable but they are difficult. Nothing comes at you from left field, but nothing is free points either. I think she develops your understanding of chemistry well, just might not always help your GPA. She also has weekly quizzes that suck. Other than that, she's pretty good, although sometimes she comes with a bit of attitude to class. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:CHE 1301 - Dr. Stover is a good teacher, but her tests are a bit challenging. She also teaches at a fast pace. I really was fighting for my life in here but ended with an A-. You really just have to put in the work. If there's a challenging question or scenario she brings up in class, she'll likely put it on the exam. She was a bit tricky with those exams so be careful. Overall, she's def not the worst chem professor at Baylor, and she's pretty available during office hours. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Chem 1301 - mid, just mid. cant really say much more. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:CHE 1301 - A teacher I genuinely cannot take any major complaint with. Taught material very plainly and simply, and the tests were pretty much just "What was taught". The material wasn't easy, but I can't see a much better learning experience of the material. The daily workload was also insanely manageable, nothing more than a handful of OWLs per Chapter. Very cooperative when tests or material was missed. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1301 - Dr. Stover is amazing! I hadn't taken chemistry in about three years (with a terrible teacher) and her class was really nice to go through. Her lectures had plenty of examples and she gives extra credit opportunities. Her tests are a little difficult, but she awards a lot of partial credit and test extra credit. In addition, after class she posts announcements on Canvas that has a lot of information, like which OWL assignments are helpful. She also puts a lot of practice online on Chem101 and OWL. Her class is really easy if you're willing to put in the work. I forgot to turn in an OWL assignment once, which dragged down my grade quite a bit. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:1301 - Dr. Stover is the BEST. I barely have any chemistry background (took basic high school chemistry my sophomore year), and this class was a breeze. Dr. Stover gives you so many extra credit assignments and bonuses on exams. Each exam has an opportunity for a 5% bonus, and the bonuses are usually not too difficult. She gives the perfect amount of OWL assignments: not too many but enough to learn the material. She gives a list of practice questions for every exam that are very similar to the ones on the exam. Dr. Stover also drops an entire exam grade as long as you get above a 25% on every exam because she understands that most of her students are freshman who are just adjusting to college coursework. She has lots of office hours and tons of fun decorations and candy in her office. My only complaints are that her exams can be difficult to finish sometimes because you only get 50 minutes, but if you know the material this shouldn’t be too bad. She also gives a lot of quizzes, (one a week), but this can also boost your grade. She is also a great lecturer and is super passionate about chemistry. Overall, I was nervous coming into Baylor to take Dr. Stover’s class because of the negative reviews, but most of them are false and this class actually ended up being my easiest class because of Dr. Stover. Please do not listen to the majority of these reviews. Dr. Stover deserves a much higher rating, and most of my classmates agree with this. Lots of students dislike intro science teachers because they come into college as premed or something like that and don’t realize how much effort they need to put into school, so they fail. This is not Dr. Stover’s fault; in fact, she gives her students more than enough grace. Ultimately, Dr. Stover is a genuinely nice person who is an amazing teacher, and I can’t wait to have her again next semester. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1301 - Dr. Stover has been my favorite teacher this year. I thought this class was going to be a nightmare because I don't consider myself to be very smart, but I LOVED it. I had no AP chem background and thrived in her class because she taught the material very well. Her expectations were continuously clear and straightforward. This gal wrote a detailed email after every single lecture that described exactly what we should work on and what would be coming next week. Those announcements were my study schedules laid out for me. She gives you the slides for the 2 chapters that you'll go over in class for the next few weeks. I took notes on them before class so I could chill and work through the sample problems with her in lecture. That helped a ton. The OWL homework assignments were great because they forced me to study the material for the test. Sure, some units took more time than others, but you can always go into office hours to get help. She provides lots of time for office hours, too. She does have quizzes each week (besides test week) but they're usually fine as long as you did OWL homework. She also drops 2 quizzes throughout the semester and gives you lots of extra credit opportunities, too. Dr. Stover is a goofy and sweet person with a big passion for chemistry and Marvel. I highly recommend her to anyone who wants to have an enjoyable class that will truly teach you so much about chemistry. Also, don't buy the actual textbook for the class, I never used mine. You'll have to purchase OWL but it comes with the online textbook with practice problems. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1301 - Her lectures are fast-paced but engaging, so as long as you're willing to give her your full attention in class, you will be thoroughly prepared for the homework and weekly quizzes. There's 1 OWL assignment for every chapter and can be finished quite easily if you follow her suggested problems after every lecture. The tests do require a bit of preparation because there is a pretty big amount of free response and fill-in-the-blank, but they are not unreasonable. I thoroughly enjoyed her class this year, and you can tell that she cares about your individual success! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1301 - For the love of God, do not take her class if you are not proficient in chemistry knowledge. She goes fast on her lectures. She covers way too many thing at once. She comes in with an attitude on some days. The platforms that she uses for her class add up and are not very helpful. Her test reviews on Chem101 are long and difficult, but only tests on certain knowledge. I highly do not recommend taking her class if you want to save your GPA. - Grade In Class:D
Comments:1301 - I walk in on-coming traffic on my to her class. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:CHE1302 - Dr Stover is the best! She really knows what she is teaching and she teaches well. Her classes are fast-paced, but if you have the notes ready prior to class you'll be fine. She really helps in office hours and is almost always available via email. Her quizzes are easy and boost your grade. She also drops your lowest test which also helps majorly. I would strongly recommend her! - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1302 - Just run. Far away. Dr.Stover is nice but she can often be somewhat dismissive and a little rude. Some pros of her class is her lecture style, she isn't a boring lecturer and she enjoys what she teaches. She uploaded her powerpoints and recorded lectures which were really helpful during covid times. Dr.Stover also offered some extra credit throughout the semester, which was very much appreciated. However, everything else was just not so great. She has 4 exams and the final. Quizzes every single week. It felt like we had no time to even digest the material or even begin to understand it before a quiz was thrown in our face. Keep in mind that for me personally, chemistry is a strong suit and I finished with a high A in 1301. None of the material in 1302 was particularly difficult, but Dr.Stover seemed to make it the hardest stuff on the planet. Her exams looked NOTHING like the homework or what we did in class. The exams looked rushed, often riddled with typos, like she had made the tests the night before. The examples she did in class were over simplified and the exam questions were 10x harder. The time to question ratio of her exams is incredibly unreasonable. I have NEVER struggled with time on tests in my entire life - but 50 minutes for 30+ non-multiple choice questions? With lengthy math and a lot of critical thinking involved? Either cut a few questions or make them all multiple choice. I never even had the chance to finish the exam with confidence or show all that I knew I had learned. She would take off points on exams for the SMALLEST things, even when I exhibited full understanding of the material or what the question was asking. Super frustrating after dedicating almost 3/4 of your semester to this single class. (Also, at the beginning of the semester, she made us buy entirely new calculators for JUST her class specifically? Like, what? I just don't understand..) - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1301- Chemistry - To be blunt the class was an adjustment and i didn't start off well but once you get the flow of the course it is great. She explains the material clearly with multiple angles for you to understand. I highly recommend following her schedule to study because the material is SUPER DIFFICULT. She understands the difficulty of the course and she is very very VERY forgiving she has drops, extra credit,& bonus questions. Not to mention the extra drops and curves that are not mentioned in the syllabus. If you need to know chemistry for your future profession i highly recommend but if you are just taking the course cause it is required you wont be motivated or willing to keep up. Really just know what is happening in the class and you can get a solid grade. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:1301 - Dr. Stover is a great teacher, but can go quickly with her lectures, so it\\\'s important to keep up. She does go over some problems with us in class, so that was very helpful. Once she goes over a topic, she will never visit it again so continual studying is important! Her class is probably made for those who have taken an AP course in chem because she does not \\\"dumb\\\" anything down, so I would say that if you want to take her, freshen up (a lot) on the chem basics at least. She\\\'s very good at being available for her office hours as well as helping you understand the topics there, so utilise it if you didn\\\'t understand her lectures. As far as homework, its OWL (20 topics w 3 questions each), and she gives you until the end of the week to turn them in, so it\\\'s important to be consistent with doing at least 5 topics each day or the day you have her lecture. I didn\\\'t realize she gave a big workload until I went to another class for Chem II, so do what you will with that info. She gives quizzes about every week and they are not easy, as she is very picky and can trick you. This goes for the tests. You will pretty much know when they are as soon as you finish a chapter. Also, the final is cumulative. All in all, she\\\'s not a bad professor, but there are others who you should look at first if you know that you have other tough classes, as she doesn\\\'t extend dates or give any leniency. Oh, and the only big extra credit was on topics we haven\\\'t learned yet or won\\\'t ever. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1302 - I really enjoyed Dr. Stover\'s class. I had a different professor last semester and absolutely hated chemistry with them, but I began to enjoy it this semester in Dr. Stover\'s class. She is a great lecturer and explains things in a simple and concise way. Her exams are difficult but not impossible. They are mostly free response and tend to be similar to the OWL homework assignments. She gives quizzes almost every week that are fairly simple and usually based off of in class examples. This class takes a lot of study time if chemistry isn\'t something that comes easy to you, but it is not impossible to do well in this class. She is very available for office hours and really helpful if you ask for it. One exam, one quiz grade, and one homework grade are dropped plus she offered one or two bonus assignments throughout the semester. Overall I would definitely recommend Dr. Stover. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1302 - This lady is amazing. Great lector, you walk out of class really understanding the information and if not, her door is always open for office hours. The only downside is the constant quizzes but they are not very difficult if you study for a couple hours prior. Not very many OWLS so that's a plus. Tests do get increasingly difficult as the semester goes on but just keep studying and you'll be fine.(PS: also gives occasional brainlesss extra credit)... also drops test/quizzes/OWL assignments. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1301+1302 - don't let the bad reviews scare you away! gen chem can be hard, and you have to put in the work to get the grade. she's very helpful and genuinely wants you to learn the material, so if it seems hard, it's probably the fact that you're actually learning the material in depth. she's a great professor and although she does move fast, SI's and office hours are there to help. There are quizzes about once a week, but they're not too much, and they force you to study as you go instead of saving it until the last minute. Homework is really not that bad and is a good grade boost. Tests weren't terrible, they weren't easy but also she needs to teach to material somehow and really easy tests won't do that. She tries to make the tests as short as possible, but the problem is that you still never have enough time. That's really my only criticism, but if you work fast on tests it shouldn't be a problem. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1301 - Dr. Stover was an excellent professor. I know a lot of people here have slandered her but you just need to put in the work to understand the content and do well. She really cares about her students (and their wellbeing) and even though the workload was a lot and the grading was hard, she wants her students to learn the material. I feel very prepared for chem 1302 now. Don't let the bad reviews turn you away from an amazing professor and great person. Take Stover if you plan to use chemistry in the future and really want to understand the subject. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1301 - Dr. Stover is a wonderful and amusing person. Her class, not so much. 1301 is just a review of 10th-grade chemistry and she explains everything important with excessive thoroughness. The OWL modules for homework are a lot, but you get two-ish weeks to do each of them and multiple attempts for each question. The weekly quizzes are pretty easy, but a little rushed. The tests are easy enough if you bother to study for them. Overall great professor, extraordinarily boring class. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1301 - She cannot teach at all. She just does not have the ability to explain anything at a level that is needed for an INTRO chemistry class. Even if you took AP Chem in high school, good luck. The tests were so off the wall and had nothing to do with the homework or what we did in class. There is also a quiz about every other class period that she doesn't give you enough time to finish. And the homework is beyond Bull S**t. It takes hours to complete and does not help you in the class at ALL. Do not take Stover. - Grade In Class:F
Comments:General Chemistry - My first problem with professor stover is the amount of quizzes. We had quizzes every other class which gave us a very short period of time to try and understand what we learned from the class before. I think I only passed 3 quizzes... and I’m not joking. Second, we had 6 exams in one semester. In my opinion, the quizzes and homework were nothing like the exams, so you couldn’t learn from your mistakes. The exams were extremely hard and you had to memorize TONS of constants and equations that other professors would’ve given you. Make sure you start the homework early because you will spend a lot of time and a lot of mental breakdowns in the process. Oh, and you have homework due for every exam which is normal, but like I said, it’s a PAIN. Lastly, one of the problems I had with her was attendance. She takes attendance every class and MAKES IT PART OF YOUR GRADE even though at the beginning of the semester she talked and talked and talked about how we shouldn’t come to class if we’re feeling sick in the slightest bit (even if you have a small headache or EVEN FEEL TIRED) because of the pandemic. HOWEVER, there were many instances when she canceled class because of her migraines and mouth ulcers. We had to watch her previous lectures online while she went home and “took tons of medicine and went to sleep”, that’s what she said she did at least. Overall, I wouldn’t take professor stover unless you want to have a lot of mental breakdowns like I did. She has no sympathy and doesn’t help you if you don’t understand something. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:chem 1301 - Bro I popped continuous Ad******* and stayed up 5-6 night 14-20 hours a day for a freshman year class that isn't even my major nor have anything to do with what I'm studying and I still f****** failed - Grade In Class:F
Comments:Chem 1301 - Do not take Dr. Stover if chemistry does not come naturally to you. This was by far my most challenging class this semester( I am a bio major) and I felt defeated constantly. No matter how hard you study you will never get the grade you hoped for. She makes her exams/quizzes impossible and makes you memorize constants that other teachers would just give you. She gives no mercy with extra credit even if you offer to do a substantial amount of extra work. You have a quiz every other class meeting that are SO HARD... This gives you no time to process the information you have learned. I wanted to do well in chem and I do feel like I learned from her but at the expense of my grade. You do learn the material in her class but your grade will not reflect your knowledge. It is unfair when students in the other classes receive so much more grace. It helps when you go to her office during hours but she normally ends up just talking to you about her cats. The exams were not as hard as the quizzes yet still challenging. This was a hard class but if you get stuck with her you can do it! I believe in you! - Grade In Class:C
Comments:chem 1301 - She can talk the talk and she can walk the walk but she CANNOT teach! She is barely able to read her own power points due to being absent from head aches and mouth issues yet we had quizzes 36 hours after having to teach ourselves the material?? She gives you 6 exams and about 1-2 quizzes a week during a pandemic. The owl questions are nothing like the quiz and exam questions. Learning the material doesn't even cover what you need to know in order to make an A in her class. Learning the material alone might get you a solid D leaning towards an F. - Grade In Class:F
Comments:1301 - FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DIDN'T TAKE AP CHEM, to do well on her exams, READ and MEMORIZE her power point presentation slides. Use online sources to search for sample questions along with starting the OWLS early. For the math section, there are practice problems in the HW and her ppt slides. Those problems are very similar to the exam questions. Her quizzes are challenging, but follow what I said earlier. Go to her office hours BEFORE EXAM week because then she will be very busy with other students. Take advantage of her office hours cuz she has them every day which is awesome and she will respond to emails fairly quickly. Very willing to help. You get extra credit on all 5 exams + the final. Now for the negative aspects. Exams + Final are 70% of your grade and her final was brutal. 80 questions long. Her lectures are boring and her humor wasn't my cup of tea and honestly, it was a cringe. I learned a lot in that class, but it was purely conceptual and no application except the last unit. She makes you memorize a lot of equations and constants which is pretty ridiculous. If you didn't take AP CHEM, this class is a challenge, but if you work hard, you will learn a lot. Also, she doesn't really sympathize much because 1) she takes attendance during a flipping pandemic and counts it against you if you don't show up to class and 2) too many quizzes + exams. If you are looking to apply your knowledge, then don't take Dr. Stover. If you are good at memorization and haven't taken AP Chem, then you will learn a lot, but BE prepared to work hard. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1301 - I don’t know who made the other God awful ratings but do not take Dr. Stover if you’re trying to pass. She’s gives 5 regular exams throughout the semester and a Final Exam. So in total you take 6 exams in a single semester. I repeat 6 exams in a single semester. That’s absurd and ridiculous. She also makes you memorize most of the equations when other professors give you and handout and your not allowed to use a TI-83 or 84 for some reason. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:CHEM 1301 - Dr. Stover is such a sweetheart, and she's so good at teaching. She reminds me of a really caring high school teacher, just with a bigger knowledge of chemistry. You have to put a bit of time into doing homework if you didn't take AP chem, but if you did, you're 100% chilling with her. Her tests are a little hard if you didn't take AP chem, but her extra credit is easy. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1301 - I encourage everyone to take Dr. Stover. She has the most office hours of any professor I know, and is very encouraging and willing to help. She has quizzes, but tells you when they are and pretty much exactly what you should study. Although there are more quizzes than other classes like McGrath, she teaches better compared to what I've heard from others. She goes over examples for every concept and really tries to help you understand. There arent any surprises in the class, and there is extra credit on the test. She is also very nice. Homework is super easy and a completion grade. The math can be complicated sometimes but if you ask her she will help you out. 10/10! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:CHE 1301 - Take Dr. Stover!!I was very nervous to take her at first because she is new to Baylor and had no reviews. But she is such a good professor! She explains the material very clearly, is very approachable, and the class is very doable. She usually gives you helpful memory tricks for things that you have to memorize. She sets the class up in a way to help your grade be as high as possible (bonus points on tests, drops 1 test, quiz, and homework). It\\\'s so easy to tell that she loves Chemistry and it makes listening to her lectures more interesting. She is so so approachable, and she never makes you feel dumb. Make sure you study well for the quizzes, they were more challenging than I thought they would be at the beginning (but she drops one of them as well). The workload is doable (I think it is much better than other chemistry classes), but of course chemistry requires lots of time to study the material. Overall, she is a great professor and she will help you out so much if you ask for it. Take her!! - Grade In Class:A
