Comments:1321 - Has Dr. Hunter for Cal 1 and have no complaints about him! I didn't really enjoy the math department as a whole, but Dr. HHunter is by far the best option for a Cal 1 prof. He is funny and super helpful during office hours. Only thing I hated about the class was the homework- it was frustrating that it didn't give feedback and was sometimes programmed with the wrong answer. But Dr. Hunter is great! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1321 - Dr. Hunter is an amazing person and professor. He is probably the funniest teacher I've ever had, so much so that I'd like to be friends with the guy. Regarding his teaching ability, he can go a bit too fast sometimes, but usually his pacing and explanations are perfect. His exams are a little tough, and there is quite a bit of homework, but doing the homework is necessary to do good in this class. Also his exams are (almost) identical to his practice exams, so do them. Would recommend - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:MTH 1322 - Calc 2 is hard by virtue of being Calc 2. I have no complaints about him as a professor, and I would definitely recommend him if you need to take math classes. He's a little wacky but he's a good teacher and is very lenient with homework due dates. His tests are not bad if you review the guides he uses in class as well as the homeworks. More than anything, if you learn how to do the problems for the homework, you can do pretty well on the tests. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1321 - Honestly, Dr. Hunter is the best. He explains concepts very clearly in his classes and his exams are very similar to the past practice exams posted on the canvas page. If there is anything I could complain about, his classes are relatively fast paced. Dr. Hunter also has a great personality which makes the class even more enjoyable. Take him if you can I strongly recommend. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:MTH 1322 - Calculus II is a notoriously hard class, so do not expect to be able to get the A without putting in some work. Dr. Hunter has a really good teaching style. He cracks jokes and does a really good job of explaining concepts. In my opinion, the first two exams were pretty easy, but the third was pretty difficult just because of all the different convergence tests we had to learn. I would recommend trying to do really well on those first two exams to cushion your grade. Our grades were based off of 3 in-class exams (45% of the grade), homework on Achieve (25%), and a cumulative, departmental final (30%). Take full advantage of the unlimited attempts on homework to cushion your grade because it majorly helps later. If you are struggling, GO TO OFFICE HOURS. Seriously. Dr. Hunter is super helpful. Also, he will replace your lowest exam score with your final exam score if it helps your grade. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1321 - He is one of the better Calculus teachers. His practice exams are very similar to the exams. He instructs well enough to get an A through paying attention in class and going to SI consistently. Having already taken Calculus definitely helped me a lot. Go to his office hours with types of problems you can\'t solve and he will provide you strategies to well prepare you for the tests. Hunter gets the job done well. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:MTH 1321 - I got a C+ in his class for two reasons. Firstly, this was a class I took in my first semester at college and was not prepared with proper study skills. Secondly, Calculus is just difficult period. But I cannot praise Dr. Hunter enough about how intelligent he is, how funny and friendly he is, how down to earth and understand he is, and how fun he made going to his class. His personality and humor leaked into every lecture and helped me stay focused and enjoy the material, and lots of times he would use funny yet applicable examples to explain a concept. The only thing I could possibly say that is negative is that his tests are pretty hard, but definitely doable with proper study time. He is such a great calculus professor and I highly recommend taking his class! - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:MTH 2311 Linear Algebra - Dr. Hunter is a rad dude. His class follows a flipped course format (watch videos outside of class and do daily work during class) so if that's not your preference then he may not be the right teacher for you. That being said, it wasn't a hard class as long as you took it seriously. Homework in his class was optional but many found it useful for study, although you can learn most of what you need to know from the daily work. He does expect you to know the definitions of key terms verbatim for exams, and !pay attention! during his true/false questions during the beginning of class because those are where most people lose exam points. Besides those, the exams weren't difficult and basically followed the exact structure of his previous year exams (which are all available on his very well-designed Canvas page). He made a lot of jokes and quips to lighten the mood, and as long as you don't act like a moron *cough* in his class you should do fine. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:MTH 1322 - Best math teacher i've ever had. Taught in a very engaging and understandable way. Made the best dad jokes to lighten the mood and keep us attentive. He is very willing to work with you during office hours and will stay after class to answer questions or just hang out. Tests are difficult, but he does a great job preparing you. The problems you work through in class and during homework will usually be harder than the exams. Take Dr. Hunter if you get the chance! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:MTH1322 - SUCH a great teacher!! Dr. Hunter is funny, nice, and excellent at explaining things. He makes jokes during class and makes me enjoy coming to class. TAKE Dr. Hunter!!! He cares about his students and will never turn down a question, even if it makes him go through less material than planned. If you pay attention in class and dont just cheat on all the hw, I feel like it's pretty hard to get below a B+ in this class. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Calc 1 - LOVED Dr. Hunter. He was very helpful, very thorough and often made us laugh in class (which is difficult to do in a math class) I wasn’t a fan of the homework program he used but I’m a little biased because of my previous experience with the ALEKS homework program. I did not do well in the class but it was due to my lack of established foundations, not any fault of Dr. Hunter. My biggest thing with him is that he is ALWAYS available and willing to make time for students who want or need help. If you make the effort, he will do everything he can for you. 10/10 would take his class again. - Grade In Class:D
Comments:1322 - Dr. Hunter is really nice and funny. His lectures are actually engaging, and I never fell asleep once. He prints out guided notes for each lecture so you can easily organize everything. I would understand everything in class. If you have questions, go to office hours. He will even go through homework problems with you! Downsides: in my opinion, the tests are really hard. I failed the first two so that's why I dropped. I think you really have to practice if you want to get a good grade. You HAVE to do extra problems and repeat different types so that you'll be prepared for the tests. - Grade In Class:DROP
Comments:Linear Algebra - First, he does not teach at all. It is a flipped class so how this works in linear algebra is that you watch the videos before class and you go to class and you do the worksheet that is due that week. There are notes that you can follow along the videos and half way of the semester I just read the notes and did the worksheet. His videos are not that bad but it is hard to follow a flipped class. Wish he could just teach in class and make the worksheet a homework or something. Okay the homework. He uses this online pearson thing for hw. There is A LOT. A LOT. For each section per chapter, you almost have to work everyday to catch up on these homeworks. The exams, definitions free response and true and false. Which are really really hard to study and get credit for. You have to write the exact wording for definitions or he will take points off. True and false, if you are good at reasoning stuff go ahead. but if you are just a numbers person, I would recommend someone else. I did not learn a single thing in this class. Because he did not teach. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1321/1322 - DIS GUY IS DA GOAT. took him for calc one and the only reason I got a B is cuz i didn’t show up to class half the time. if i showed up i would’ve gotten an A, For calc 2, i am currently sitting with an A. he is the BEST math professor. i hear ppl say who their professor is and i GAG if they don’t say reeves hunter bc i know they’re getting a terrible education if it isn’t from this man. CALL ME A MEAT RIDER but i’m so fr, this man will make you enjoy math. he’s so goofy - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:2311 - Reeve Hunter was one of the least helpful professors I have encountered at Baylor. He ran a terrible flipped class. His videos were useless and the majority of the learning was done from the homework on MyLab. We graded all of our own daily work. His response to most questions was "look in your homework". He taught nothing the entire semester, so unless you are good at teaching yourself do not take him. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:MTH 1321 - You Guys, Dr. Hunter is amazing. He is always willing to help and meet with you. His tests are always reasonable and if you study you will do well. The homework is departmental and is difficult but if you put in the effort to do it and get help when you need you will end up with a better understanding of the material and more prepared for the tests. He often pushes out the tests so that you can have time to study. He is a very fair teacher and admits when he is wrong. Take Dr. Hunter if you can! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1321 - Don't know how he got such a high rating. His teaching ability is great but he teaches things that are so much easier than the tests. No curve on the test despite averages being below or at a C every time. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:1321 - Professor Hunter is honestly amazing for 1321! I had him at 8am and I was very concerned about being able to learn and comprehend at 8am lol. I had calculus background in high school but I truly believe you would be fine in his class without it! Professor Hunter posts notes to print out before class and they are very helpful. His homework load is very reasonable and I actually thought it was very helpful in understanding the material. His quizzes were also good in my opinion as well as the exams. He posted his old unit exams which were EXTREMELY helpful to understand what the exams may look like. He was super flexible with deadlines and even pushed HW, quiz, and exam dates back if we didn't finish the notes in class, rather than having us learn it on our own to catch up. Overall, I would take Professor Hunter again and definitely recommend him! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1321 - Dr. Hunter is amazing and if you want to get an A in Calculus, take him. There is online homework but he is very flexible on due dates, and has no issue pushing back due dates if you need more time. He uploads notes online that you print out and can fill out during the class. He also has his completed notes online. Another thing that is really cool that he does is upload old tests that he has given. This was really helpful to me because it provided an outlook on what the tests would be like. Some of the online homework questions are really complex but if you go to office hours Dr. Hunter will help you do it. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1321 - I was always really bad at math, and I have taken AP calc AB in high school before (received a C in the course) before, but Dr.Hunter helped make math more understandable this semester. Dr.Hunter was such a great teacher. His tests are not too challenging if you practice REALLY well and understand the material. He also had completed notes and practice test answer keys that helped a lot when trying to understand the material. He is a great person above all and WILL help you if you are struggling in anything, so take advantage of his office hours and his availability of his email. He is like any other math teacher, but his teaching ability and personality make the class more enjoyable. Attend the SI's to get more practice in especially if math has been hard for you in the past, and take advantage of all of Dr.Hunter's practice test materials and you will do well. Hope this helps! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1321 - This was my second time taking Calculus and to be honest, I was kind of traumatized from the first time I took it. Since I took the summer course, the schedule was very fast-paced, but all the deadlines were reasonable. He explains things clearly in his lectures, and posts all the work that he does when he does an example problem. His sense of humor is very awkward and quirky, which is nice. He held office hours twice a day via Zoom, which really helped me when I had trouble understanding the online homework. He also posted practice tests, which were great. There are three tests throughout the semester. For the summer session, they were about once a week. He did not curve them since the averages were pretty good. There are quizzes throughout the course which cover about two sections at a time, and he drops the two lowest quiz grades. He did curve the final and if your score on the final is higher than your lowest test grade, it replaces it. Overall, Dr. Hunter is one of the best math professors I've had. Math has always been a weak subject for me but he was able to explain concepts clearly and was always helpful. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:MTH 1320 & 1321 - If you like a structured class where you know what to expect every day, Dr. Hunter is the one for you! I’ve never had a good math teacher so I was surprised how easy it was for me to understand what was going on in his class. Dr. Hunter uses the same format for his classes: he prints out notes, we go over them in class, and we do some examples. The HW can get a little lengthy, but it will be that way with any math teacher. Dr. Hunter was a fun and hilarious teacher. He was super helpful, as I was always in his office hours. Our grades consisted of about 4 tests, HW, quizzes, and the final. The final can replace your lowest test grade. I ended with an A in MTH 1320 and a B in MTH 1321. Take Dr. Hunter! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1321 - Take Dr. Hunter! He is the best math teacher I have ever had by far. He's good at breaking things down with examples and teaching you hard concepts. I had never taken calculus before his class, but I honestly never really struggled because he really makes sure you understand the topics before you leave his classroom. All homework is for participation, so you get credit for just doing it, even if it's not correct. He has a quirky and kinda nerdy sense of humor but it helps makes his class enjoyable. His tests are very reasonable and he always gives good feedback and partial credit wherever possible. He will also drop your lowest quiz and homework grades and your lowest test can be replaced with your final test score. I personally think that getting a good grade in his class is super attainable and I wouldn't take any other professor. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1321 - Dr. Hunter is a terrific Calculus professor. Even students like myself who took Calculus in high school will walk away from this course with a new appreciation for mathematics. The Homework assignments are from the book (like almost every math professor), but they cover the big topics and maybe one or two specific problems that are required. He's really nerdy and awkward but that tends to lead to some pretty funny situational humor and it enhances the lecture experience. He also had a good SI: attending those is very helpful for success on tests or quizzes. ALSO: If he hasn't stopped doing this, look for him during Dr. Pepper Hour: he holds office hours there sometimes and it makes that stop even more worth it. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:MTH 1321 - Dr. Hunter, in my opinion, is probably one of the better professors within the math department at Baylor. He is pretty quirky and a little awkward, but he is extremely helpful and nice. However, his class is no walk in the park -- but is doable. Dr. Hunter does a plentiful amount of examples in class during lecture and carefully explains each one -- but he can go pretty fast at times. Just be sure to pay attention and note what is important. Dr. Hunter is a fairly good professor who truly cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He is continuously trying to give us resources (SI, posting solutions to an exam after we have taken it, extended office hours, leeway with homework problems), and will help in any way that he can. I would recommend going to his office hours! I went in order to receive help with homework, and he clearly explained the problem and any concepts relating to the homework. There is not a huge workload at all. Every section within the textbook/the current section(s) being taught in class are accompanied with 1 to 2 problems to be turned in. There are roughly 4 quizzes throughout the semester, but he ended up dropping our lowest quiz & HW assignment. In my opinion, the exams were not too bad, but there are some aspects/questions that can be challenging. However, Dr. Hunter tries to give partial credit whenever he can. This was his first semester at Baylor as a professor, but I am sure as time goes on, he will continue to get better. I would definitely recommend him for Calculus! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1321 - Dr. Hunter is a funny, kind, and sort of awkward quirky guy. He is very knowledgable about calculus and always makes himself available whenever he can, even during Dr. pepper hour! In terms of teaching ability, he isn't revolutionary by any means, and to succeed in this class, you will need to teach yourself most of the material outside of class as expected for a calculus class. However, Hunter does a great number of examples in class that you can review and study to help with the homework problems. He is a very meticulous grader on tests, and his tests are pretty challenging, but the average scores range in the 70s, so he will not curve. however, he does replace your lowest test grade with the final and he dropped a homework and a quiz, which is super clutch! Also, what I loved about him the most is that he held an optional review session in a booked room and held two-hour long office hours for us before the final, which helped greatly!!! Overall, a safe pick. - Grade In Class:A
