*A 5 star workload is an easy workload; a 3 star is average; whereas a 1 star workload is extremely hard.
Comments:PSC 2343 - I have no idea whats up with this low rating he has. Dr. Ward is without a doubt the best prof I have had at Baylor, he is so educated, and is an expert at arguing from all sides of a topic. I would strongly recommend taking him in general, but especially for Western Political Philosophy. This class was a wonderful reminder of why I am a political science major. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1387 - I don't understand the hate for this guy! I took him for 1387, such a good teacher! he relly knows political science (he has written two books!) and is passionate about it. Yes, his lectures can be boring at times, but it's political science. It comes with the territory. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! very easy workload, only 3 exams, he offers extra credit after the first one. THE FINAL IS NOT CUMULATIVE!! Dr.Ward is also funny and tries his best to make the class interesting. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:PSC 1387 - Took his Honors PSC 1387 and it was both easy and instructional. The only grades are attendance, two midterms, and a final, and the exams come directly from his power points (which he posts online). He is so knowledgeable about his subjects and his lectures are engaging. Can't recommend enough. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:PSC 3353 - Prof. Ward was pretty good, I do not know why he has such bad ratings, he did not grade hard at all, his lectures (while it is just him talking with no slides) were extremely straightforward, clear, and concise, and as for the repetitiveness he would begin each class highlighting the main points from the prior class which was very helpful in narrowing stuff down for the final. For our final he gave us four essay questions a week in advance and told us that two of them would be on the final, he did not trick us at all. He does an amazing job trying to bring life to a boring class, I mean really? American political thought is hard to make interesting. He does have close to no assignments which is amazing because no busy work, but do be prepared so take some time on those and do them slowly in advance if you are not good at writing , I never went but he was ALWAYS encouraging office hours and tries really hard to make himself available, and to be honest, I read close to none of the texts unless I needed to when writing the papers because his lectures highlighted exactly what you would need to know. (P.S. I only missed two classes so just go to class seriously) - Grade In Class:A
Comments:PSC3353 - I actually got a B- in the class cause of his final. He is available for office hours and overall seems like a nice guy but his class is incredibly boring and like a bunch of other reviewers alluded to, he has only 3 grades. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS THINKING IT IS A GPA BOOSTER. You will learn the haphazard way he grades things as his criteria for the essays can be super obtuse and downright idiotic. Please just know what you are getting into before it's too late. He is not an easy professor to get a good grade out of. If and only if you know deep down that you are a good writer and approach him about the essays throughout you writing it, then you should take this class. Anything else, turn away. Your GPA for grad school will thank you. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:PSC3353 - Dr. Ward was a helpful professor, but sometimes has repetitive lectures. He does seem to really care about his students and offers meetings and office hours. The one thing I really did not enjoy about his class was the fact that there are only three things in the grade book, two essays and a final. Otherwise, he is great and helpful. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:PSC 3353 - Professor Ward's lecture material tends to be fairly interesting if you're into American history and political thought. I went into this class needing an extra PSC credit and came out learning much more than I thought I would. He can get stale, but he encourages class discussions often. Think of this class as a book club. There are only 3 grades: all essays. I'm a writer so I was happy with that, but if writing isn't your strong suit I wouldn't recommend this course. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1387 - Dr. Ward is very kind! He is also very helpful in the sense that he will meet with you to discuss any material that you need help understanding. However, I would steer clear of this class because there are only 3 tests that make up your overall grade and you need to get an A in all of them to get an A in the class. If you just study, you'll be fine. Tests really are not that hard, you just need to study. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:PSC 1387 - I feel bad for writing this but I want to warn people. Professor Ward is very kind but his class is not one I can sing praise of. He only reads from the powerpoints, his tests are ridiculously specific, and he offers no extra credit. Your only grades are two midterms, the final, and attendance. If you are wicked good at memorization you will be fine. However, in good conscience, I could not recommend you to take this class. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:2303 - Ward’s class could not have been more stale. He strictly reads off notes and lectures the whole time with no visuals or any form of interactive media. The tests were difficult to prepare for and the review sessions were ineffective. He offered no extra credit and didn’t even have the grading scale posted on the syllabus. He is an incredibly nice guy but his class was unbearable to sit through with tests that really didn’t evaluate us well. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:PSC 2302 - Ward is the absolute worst professor I've had at Baylor. He only had 4 grades (two tests, final, and attendance) in the grade book and refused to offer any help to improve your grade. When asked about extra credit, he said the class (of 88 people) was too large for him to offer any sort of extra credit (even with a TA, which is absurd because Professor Darden in the Journalism department has 100+ students and he offers multiple extra credit opportunities). He didn't hand back tests to help study, his TA was an absolute mess who couldn't properly form a sentence to save his life, and the class was incredibly bland. Ward expects you to listen to him lecture from the readings from the night before, even though he's just reiterating. He changed the test format twice, leaving us frustrated and unable to properly prepare for the next one. His last two tests consisted of obscure questions such as "which article and section of the constitution did _________ come from?" which he hadn't assigned or addressed in class. Do NOT take. - Grade In Class:C+
