Comments:REL 1350 - ONE OF THE BEST PROFESSORS!! I took religion 1350 with Dr. Flowers over the summer and had the best experience. You can tell she really loves what she teaches and cares about the success of her students. She is an excellent person and teacher. I wish I was a religion major so I could take more classes with Dr. Flowers. Since I took it over the summer, there were no exams, but we still learned the required information in-depth and in a meaningful way. We had daily quizzes that would incentivize us to come prepared for class and then two longer papers. I can't recommend this class enough! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:REL 1350 - To put it lightly, I felt very out of place in her class. I took an honors section of it, where it was discussion based. We were required to speak at least once each day. At the start of the semester, I met with her and was very open about my beliefs and some anxieties I felt. I told her I was going to try to keep an open mind, but that I really do not identify with being Christian. I was nice, I didn't talk smack about her class or anything. I'm not a very good reader, either, so the discussion part made me extremely nervous. I was transparent. I have problems being transparent sometimes, so I thought I was doing the right thing... Throughout the semester, I just felt like I was treated differently because I asked lots of questions and was open to discussion about our beliefs. I dreaded coming to class because I was afraid of feeling embarrassed. These feelings of "being treated differently" were solidified when I had a panic attack over a quiz. She gave daily quizzes, and I almost never did well (obvious reasons). I tried to talk to her about that quiz after class, obviously I was disgruntled... all she said was "some days are just like that" AND LEFT. I got a 40% on that quiz. You should not take a professor that is unwilling to help you in bad times, but treat everyone else (who mostly grew up in Christian schools and environments) with love and care. I felt outcast. You shouldn't put yourself in that situation. I reached out to the head of the religion department before some of these problems, and he was no help either. Just gave me short, sarcastic responses. Maybe I was in the wrong, but I just didn't feel like this class or this professor was welcoming. Seems pretty hypocritical for a Christian university. Just glad I passed, but a lot of these problems will scar me for a long time. It pushed me farther away from being Christian when I really wanted to believe. Please take a different professor if possible. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:REL 1350 - Amazing teacher! Even if you aren't super interested in Christian history, she's clearly very knowledgable and leads a discussion-based class to foster curiosity. There were fairly difficult quizzes each week which brought my grade down to a 89 but I think she rounded up my grade by the end of the semester. There were no tests, only weekly PackBacks and two papers. Wonderful person and very welcoming to all students! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1350 - Such an awesome professor and human. Her lectures are easy to follow and they actually make sense. There are readings to do before each class, but none of them are too long. Quizzes almost daily, but it's pretty much just the main ideas from the readings. There are handouts for each lecture that tells you everything you need to know for the tests. The tests are relatively easy, as long as you put study time in. She is very strict on technology use, but I would still take her again in a heartbeat. - Grade In Class:B+
