Comments:I&M - You're going to hate I&M at first. You're going to hate Greer at first. Realize up front that it's not his fault that he teaches a hard class and it'll save you a lot of tooth gnashing. It's a ton of work right from the start (DO NOT TAKE WITH JR OR SR DESIGN!) but you'll find your groove by the middle of the semester and by the end you'll appreciate the class for the practical things you learn. Greer himself is an interesting guy - he kind of phones it in near the end of the semester (also gets more chill) so keep that in mind. His MathCAD exams are pretty easy as long as you've actually been doing the work on the labs (and not just the memos, actually learn how to use MathCAD because it's an awesome software for other classes as well. Strengths and Fluids come to mind.) His Practicum requires a lot of study but you can do well as long as you commit to learning all the instruments, the LabVIEW, and the memos. Basically, when splitting up work with your lab groups, try to do everything at least once. It's an uphill fight but you'll make it, and remember - Greer's not a bad guy, he's doing his best with a tough class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:I&M - Professor Greer is the perfect professor and teaches the perfect class to make a good engineer. Yes, he may be a little awkward and rough, but he makes you so much better at doing real things. Find friends who've taken the class before you and get their homework and lab answers and his class will be one of the most enjoyable times you'll have as an engineer.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:ME 3420 I&M - Professor Greer is an interesting person and pretty good professor. He can be unorganized at times and his method of putting grades in Canvas is frustrating, but he does it for a reason. The grading system for I&M is too complex for Canvas to handle, so he has to use his own spreadsheet to give us our grades. The workload is quite heavy, with a reading assignment, pre-lab, lab report, and homework assignment due every week. The reading assignments can be frustratingly tedious, but he puts in plenty of memes to break up the monotony. For the most part, they don\'t take more than an hour or two, but don\'t blow them off. The lab reports are the main part of the workload, with each one being up to 30-35 pages of Mathcad code plus a single page memo. The lab reports are done in randomized groups of 3, with no 2 people ever being in the same lab group twice. This definitely creates a large sense of community within the class by then end of the semester, as everyone has suffered through lab reports together. The exams are difficult, but not unbearable. There are two midterm exams, and a final. Both midterms are split into 2 parts, one computer based and one written. He will use these exams to test everything that is covered in lecture, but not everything from the reading assignments. The lab has a final practicum and two oral presentations. The presentations are not difficult and he grades fairly leniently. The practicum, on the other hand, is by far the hardest part of the semester. I covers everything taught in lab, including LabVIEW coding, which is not covered very clearly. If you understand LabVIEW, half of the practicum will come easily. There other half is a bunch of measurements, which are graded very harshly. He expects you to know how to work each tool and the uncertainty associated with each one, so be sure to study for this ahead of time. Professor Greer is very helpful in office hours, and he will typically give the class his schedule at the beginning of the semester so they know when he would be in his office. Overall, while the class itself is time consuming, Professor Greer does the best he can with what is expected of the course. He understands that there is a lot of work, and adjusts the schedule occasionally to give the students more time to complete lab reports or to focus on exams more fully. I think Professor Greer gets worse reviews than he should because of the difficulty of the course, but he really is a decent professor.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:I&M - Dr. Greer never post homework answer on Canvas, so you don't know if you do it right or not. He said he wanted us to struggle with homework, but it was just a waste of time. I asked him questions before, but his explanation was misleading and unclear. This class will take you at least 5 hours on homework and lab report every week--which is hard and Dr. Greer only wants to make it harder, he is the worst and most unprofessional teacher I've ever seen.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:Thermo 1, I&M - Honestly, Prof. Greer receives some flack he does not deserve. Let me start off by saying that he truly strives for the success of his students. He really wants everyone to put in the effort to learn the material, and always tries to put things into easy terms for students to understand. I believe that his main issue is that he overcomplicates most things. By inserting reading assignments and quizzes, regular assignments and quizzes, pre-labs and labs, and exams, it can be a lot to keep track of. That is only complicated more by him boycotting Canvas. He gives students the opportunity to turn in a midterm evaluation which he will use to change the class if you have complaints, so take those seriously! Overall, expect a reading assignment and quiz each week, a regular homework assignment each week, and a pre-lab and lab to turn in each week. He is a good person, so ask for help and he will do everything he can to help you earn the grade and learn the material.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2345 - Mr. Greer is disorganized, often unprepared, starts class late and makes ineffective use of class time, does not respond to student emails, was absent from his office after telling me to meet him there at a specific time, and schedules exams outside of class when there is ample time to conduct these during class time. What is most frustrating is his waste of class time. Mr. Greer is determined to have exams on Thursday evenings because he says there isn't enough class time, but often wastes class time by starting class late, being unprepared, not being able to use the technology, and ending class early. These things need to be fixed before Mr. Greer is a very effective teacher. The redeeming quality of Mr. Greer was that he teaches about cycles at the end of term which prepare you well for Advanced Thermo.  - Grade In Class:A
