Comments:LAT 1301 - Dr. McCune is one of the best instructors I've ever worked with. You can tell she loves Latin and wants us to love it too. She is always willing to do whatever it takes for you to learn a new grammar rule or a new word. I have her at 8 am in the morning and it is very nice because she is very energetic and outgoing, so I feel that I have to match her energy. She is always willing to help and responds to emails very quickly. The only bad thing is the course load. There isn't TOO much work but there is a lot. To be quite honest the work is also necessary to get an A in the class. She is also very understanding, and makes the course load pretty bearable. You don't have to be mastering the class but if you do the work you will understand concepts that she likes to take from homework sheets and handouts and put on the tests. So if you're keeping up to date on the homework and looking at the Latin outside of class until you have a fairly solid understanding and memorization of the material, you'll be fine. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:GTX 2301- U - I had Dr. McCune for Medieval Intellectual Tradition. She is a newer lecturer as of the past two years. Like with many new professors, she was a tad cold and standoffish in the beginning but she eventually warmed up to our class and joked around with us. As of her teaching ability, Dr. McCune knows her stuff. She often brings in the Latin/Greek terminology into the course as well as her vast knowledge of other classical literature into the class. Every week we had about 200 pages of reading and reflections on what we read due the two days we met (but this is the same in all GTX uschol classes). We had two papers due as well as a midterm and a final. Word of warning: she is a tough grader on the papers and reflections. I highly recommend taking advantage of her office hours prior to even writing the papers and bouncing your topic off of her to see what she thinks. Many times she even gives you passages you can use. And generally, the people that meet with her before the paper is due make far better grades than the ones that do not. As far as the midterm and final, she is a very very easy grader. Participation is a part of the grade, but there were people in my class who barely contributed and still made 100's. As long as you are consistently present and attentive, she will not count off for participation. If I could do it over again, I would still take Dr. McCune. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1301 - Dr. McCune is AWESOME! I loved her class. Latin is hard but she made it fun and easy to understand. However, there is a lot of work you have to put into the class. It's about 8 hours of homework per week. She gives you about 30 sentences to translate twice a week. But if you pay attention in class and know your vocab then they shouldn't take long. She also alternates Quizzes and tests every week. The tests are only over 2 chapters so you have about 10 during the semester, which makes it a lot easier. Take advantage of latina ursorum it will help you out tremendously. - Grade In Class:A
