Comments:3332 - TAKE THIS MAN FOR ORGO 2. HIS TESTS ARE STRAIGHT FROM THE TEXTBOOK. My roomate had hodson for ORGO 2 and was struggling. Zinke is so free.   - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3331 - I honestly loved Dr. Zinke! He was so helpful and when I went to his office hours, I always got a concept clarified by him. His exams got a little difficult with time but that’s expected because it’s organic chemistry I. I will say that it’s best to do well on his unit tests so that if you don’t perform as well on the ACS final, your grade will be still be fine. I think the final was a grade killer but he is very generous with extra credit and curving his class. Simply just try your best and you will succeed! Also go to SI and do all the practice problems in the textbook, you’ll be so thankful later.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:CHE 3331 - Dr. Zinke can be a bit of a dry lecturer but he will never test you on something that was not talked about in class. He does not try to trick you on exams and quizzes, and his SI was fantastic. I have never been someone who really benefits from SI but her worksheets were actually helpful and reflective of what was being tested. He is also gracious about giving back points on exams and quizzes, and the homework is an easy opportunity for practice and a grade booster. As other people have said, KILL IT on the first 2 exams and all quizzes and try your best on the last 2- they, along with the final, are pretty difficult. People will say to take Hodson bc he has multiple choice, but Zinke's free response gives more opportunities for points just for trying. This is a hard class, no way around it, but if you put in the time and effort, you will be rewarded. I made the mistake of taking a really challenging class during this but if not, an A probably would have been feasible. I was so scared that getting a good grade in OChem was impossible but he makes an A a 90-100 and B 80-90. Bottom line: go to SI, do HW/practice problems before and after class, and you can probably get an A or B.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:3331 - How does getting unfair grading sound? People can get questions wrong and still get graded as correct, then you will ask him about the same problem and he will tell you are wrong. Nuff said. Also no curve on any exams when he baits you into thinking he will be nice and curve. Maximize grade on first two exams to buffer third exam and drop fourth exam. Some of the questions on the exams are impossible.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:CHE 3332 Summer - Dr. Zinke is a very empathetic professor and is very understanding of his students. I was struggling in this class, but was able to make a B because of the curve he put on my final grade. It is obvious that he wants the best for his students and will dedicate his time and energy toward their doing well in the class. He is very available and will schedule a meeting with you even if he is busy to help you with your struggles in the class. He also offers lots of extra credit opportunities. Organic chemistry was not my favorite, but I was able to get through it because Zinke really wanted to see the class succeed and pass the class. I very much recommend him!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:CHE 3331 & 3332 - Dr. Zinke gets a bad rep because people don’t prepare for his exams well enough. I actually didn’t like Zinke when I took him for Orgo 1, but that was my own fault for not preparing and blaming the teacher for that. Organic chemistry is by nature a very memorization heavy class that requires students to actually put the time in to learn and memorize material. Zinke’s in class notes go over exactly what’s going on the exam, and are usually pretty comprehensive. However, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t use the textbook, as a lot of his exam questions are actually directly from it and it’s a great resource to use when preparing for his exams. I took his class for both Orgo 1 & 2 and got a low C in 1 and was part of the way through Orgo 2 before I realized that I actually needed to use the textbook and memorize throughout the semester rather than just study the two or three days before exams. About a third of the way through the semester for Orgo 2 I started going back over his notes and doing all the practice problems in the book I got a high B and probably would’ve gotten an A had I actually studied for the first exam, so I’m just putting B for the average. His exams are all very straightforward and don’t have anything that wasn’t mentioned in class, so if you know your stuff you will do well on all of them. This doesn’t mean they’re easy, but there are no trick questions. I think the main issue with people (including me in the first semester and part of second) is that they think they know things then when the exam rolls around they actually didn’t and blame Zinke for that. There was also homework due at the end of the semester but really a non-factor in the class, it can be knocked out in maybe 3 hours total which is what I did prior to the final as last second review. He also has office hours that if you go to he will help you. He’s actually a really nice guy and will answer any questions you have thoroughly. Don’t get me wrong, organic chemistry is a difficult class, but if you put the time in both with the lectures and with your textbook you will get an A in Zinke’s class. He also curved our class’s final grade to help people who were struggling to pass at the end of the year.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:CHE 3331 - I took this course over the summer, it was online. Dr. Zinke is a great professor who explained the material well and made himself available. I spent a tremendous amount of time on this course, doing example and challenge problems. While Dr. Zinke is great at teaching and explaining the material, it was evident that his summer workload was high. As an example, we received our graded exams back after we had already taken the next scheduled exam. We received our Exam 3, 4, and Final Exam grades all at the same time, after the class had concluded. So, it is important to be in constant communication/persistent in your inquiry with him. The exams were reasonable, but the material difficulty jumps up steeply after the first two exams. As far as homework, its online and pretty simple, it took like 30 minutes per chapter to complete. The homework is not sufficient practice to do well in this course, the problems out of the textbook are better practice. In general I really enjoyed this class, Dr. Zinke is great.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:3332 - Dr. Zinke's class is a tough one, but he is the best professor to teach you the material. He explains the material in great detail and has a great personality that makes learning the material entertaining! Organic chemistry is probably one of the hardest courses that you will take, but I recommend practicing the problems in the book. If you are going through a tough time, Dr. Zinke will recognize that you might need to take that quiz you have been stressing about on another day. He recognizes that we are people before students, making his grading fair. Dr. Zinke is awesome!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:3332 - SUMMER OCHEM 2: I got lucky with taking this course over the summer. We were given 2 hours for each exam. He even said we could email him during the exam to ask for extra time if we needed it. The exams were NOT monitored on lockdown or camera. It was a pdf that you download from canvas, print out, scan, and then upload it with your final answers. Zinke is a nice man and even when everyone had their cameras off, he still made jokes. O-chem is a hard class, but taking it over the summer with zinke was a breeze. I wouldn't keep up with the lecture and only start studying 2 days before the exams, and I got an A on all of them. There was no homework. Attending the zoom class was optional because he posted the recordings. He also told us that he cuts some of the material out during the summer since there isn't enough time to teach everything. Highly recommend taking it over the summer if you can!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:CHE 3331 & 3332 - Dr. Zinke is a blessing. He is not easy, but what chemistry class is expected to be easy. I took Zinke in the 2021-2022 academic year for both ochems, and I am super glad I did. From what I understand, the chemistry department has changed: Extra Credit is being limited more now, so keep this in mind, but Zinke tries to help out where he can. He always chooses helpful SI's, and they are KEY to attend. Zinke's exams are very fair, always from his notes. I always went through the textbook's questions as well, and they would be on the exam. He provides analogies and shares success stories of his students to motivate! His office hours can be used for advice or social time so that he can write recommendation letters (which he does often. go and be his bestie.) but also to go over questions. He can be pressured into giiving some points back on exams but I never tried to do this. Zinke also has really bad finals. It comes from an ACS Book and Ochem 2 final is way worse than Ochem 1. Overall, 2 is harder than 1 (once again, what else is expected). I would take Zinke again, but without extra credit, I would not have done as well as I did. Best of luck!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:CHE 3331 - Zinke is a nice guy, but I do not feel as though he is a very good lecturer. He's funny(ish) and likes to play old rock and roll music videos before class which is fun, however I often felt like going to class was a waste of time. He assumes students already have a decent grasp on the material before they come to class and very briefly touches on mechanisms and concepts, especially near the end of the semester. If not for his SI's sessions, I would not have had enough guidance/material to succeed. His grading structure is decent, he has 4 exams with one drop and the final, along with occasional quizzes and online homework modules for completion. Zinke's an understanding professor and will work with you if you have to miss an exam/quiz. Overall, nice man, but I would not recommend taking him if you are not good at learning on your own.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2022-11-28

Comments:3331 - Ignore everyone that praises this man. he acts like he is such a good person but its a mask deep down he is rude and an a-hole if you spend enough time with him and youre not an A student you can see it peak through. if you go to his office hours likeliness is that he will start talking about himself instead of helping you.He can not teach he has been using notes he wrote years ago and refuses to update them, going to his class is useless youre better off reading the textbooks and notes on your own time. he does give partial credit and thast helpful but always double check your grade because ive caught him grading me test and quizzes wrong multiple times. im currently taking his class and i beg you STUDY and do AMAZING on the first two exams because the last two exams will drag you though hell if ochem isnt something that comes easy to you.  - Grade In Class:C+

Date: 2022-11-15

Comments:3332 - dr zinke is a great professor, theres a reason why he won the collins award. he is very nice is pretty much always making jokes (laugh even if theyre not funny and get on his good side) he has 4 exams (22%) each and a final (34%) with one dropped exam. his final is cumulative over ochem 1 and 2 and is brutal. it is actually the worst exam i have ever taken but he does curve that and he curves your final grade up. his tests are not super hard if you go to SI and can do most of the book problems. his lectures aren't super helpful and he loves analogies but he always has amazing SI's whose worksheets are incredibly similar to the exams so if you want to do well, go to SI. he is really funny to meet with in office hours and will tell you what you need to know and do not know. the only thing i did not like about him is his final.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2022-05-12

Comments:3332 - I’ve heard a lot of bad things about Zinke lately from my peers, but my experience says differently. I can see how some people think he might come off as “rude”, but he is actually a really nice guy once you start talking to him. The only thing that will make him mad is trying to discuss grades during finals week. As for the exams: considering how hard of a subject Ochem is, he really dialed it down. I would say that the four exams were actually easy (and the lowest exam score gets dropped). The final is difficult, but he generously curves it. His lectures sometimes gets a little dry, especially when there is a lot of material to cover, but I found him incredibly helpful in office hours. As for his office hours, he is always there after lecture. Great guy and great choice for ochem.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2022-05-12

Comments:CHE 3332 - Do not take this man unless you are an organic chemistry genius or have a lot of time to put in this class. Dr. Zinke is loved by a lot of people and I can see why: he picks favorites almost immediately and it is always the students at the top of the class. He has four exams that are not hard and will drop your lowest one. However, the final is worth 34% of your grade and is insanely hard. I think the average for last year was a 50%, and he didn't curve too generously. I got a 98% in ochem 1 and am holding on to my A in this class at the moment. If I could go back, I would recommend taking Dr. Hodson, whose finals arent cumulative and gave his ochem 2 class 20 bonus points for their exams.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2022-05-11

Comments:3332 - Zinke is an amazing professor once you get to know his teaching style and the way he tests. His tests are very fair and are an accurate representation of what you'll see on the exams. That being said, the final is cumulative over semester 1 AND 2, and it is unnecessarily brutal, so steer clear of him for orgo 2 and take someone else. His lectures start off at a great pace but then once he realizes he's been teaching slow, will teach an entire chapter in one class. There was homework with 3331, but not with 2, and all of the outside work was for extra credit. He curves the final/final grades which is nice, but don't take his class looking for an easy ride, it will be anything but.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2022-05-09

Comments:3331 - I feel bad rating Zinke the way that I am, because his knowledge and willingness to help students really set him above most professors. That said, the man's lectures did next to nothing for me. An A is possible but you have to go to SI, or his office hours, or be willing to put in the work outside of class. The tests during the year are a plus, as they are very straightforward (there's a catch). The FINAL is very difficult. It is American Chemistry Society (ACS) style with questions in a standardized format. I did ok on the first semester final but I have him again for 3332 and ngl, a little concerned because this final is cumulative for ochem 1 AND 2. Overall, a fair professor with a great wealth of knowledge and student relatability, scary finals and boring lectures.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2022-04-08

Comments:3331 - Dr. Zinke is a fantastic professor. 10/10 recommend him. Ochem is a hard subject, and you have to put work into learning it—that doesn’t change no matter which professor you take. But, with that said, Zinke prepares you very well for the MCAT. He is your best best for an Ochem professor at Baylor. Making an A in the class is very doable if you study hard and know your stuff for his exams. All of his exams are fair, and he tells you what to need to know so you are never blind-sided by the questions. Great professor!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2022-02-21

Comments:3331 - Ignore the comments that got As in this class. Zinke literally doesn't teach. His lectures are a waste of tuition and time. While exams are straight forward and has HW problems in the back of the book, there is really no guidance from him. When you take this class, it is almost as if it is an asynchronous one except for the fact that Zinke RARELY responds to emails (not just for me, for everyone). Don't take him. And people who say he helps for MCAT prep that is complete BS. We just go over MCAT Qs from time to time and he barely prepares us especially for Exam 3 and 4. The Final exam we had no clue what the hell was going to be on it and the exam average was a 66 which clearly explains Zinke's lack of guidance. I only did well because I went to SI. I would say it's easy to pass this class, but you won't retain anything for the MCAT. He also judges you if you don't do well on the first two exams. He doesn't give any sapling problems, assigns random problems from the book that is no way useful for the exam. We only had two quizzes (lowest one gets dropped) which really screwed up people's grades. He gives 14 extra credit points, but they aren't even helpful. Idk man, this ain't a good professor. Stay far away.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:CHE 3331 - Ok, here is the thing about Zinke. He is a wonderful teacher and makes a difficult class like o chem very enjoyable. He is very pop-culture savvy, hilarious, sweet, and intelligent. That being said, o chem is a very hard course that you will need to keep up by doing it regularly. His grading works mainly with tests, 20% for 4 tests (in where he drops your lowest test grade). His tests are all free-response which is good for a class like o chem in where if you make a minor mistake, you will receive partial credit. He does quizzes that makeup 10% of your grade and 30% for the final (which is multiple choice). O chem is by nature a difficult course and is probably one of the first upper-level courses that you will be taking. Thus, you should master the material for his class by attending lectures, completing the book problems, and going to SI (which really helped a LOT of students). Zinke helps his students along the way and tries his level best to make sure all of his students get the grade they want. For a difficult class like o chem, he is your best shot for getting a good grasp at the material (as it is highly required for the MCAT for all you pre-meds out there) and if you put in the work, you will get a good grade. TAKE HIM!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2021-12-18

Comments:3331 - If you are a lowkey procrastinator, take Hodson or Pinney. Zinke is not gonna be a good choice. He doesn't teach and questions whether you attended his lectures during office hours if you ask him a question. He is nice, but very intimidating. I learned absolutely nothing from his class. If you WANT TO ACTUALLY LEARN ORGANIC CHEMISTRY, don't take Zinke. As others have said, he does point the topics that you need to know for the MCAT and wants everyone to make an A or B on his exams, but in order to do that you have to understand Organic Chemistry. While his exams are straight forward, he doesn't give partial credit and even if he does it's like a pity point or two when the entire problem is like 10 points. I am literally so happy I am taking Hodson next semester so that I can ACTUALLY LEARN ORGANIC CHEMISTRY II TO THE FULLEST RATHER THAN KNOWING NOTHING ABOUT ANYTHING. SO PROCRASTINATORS, DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS with ZINKE. ANY OTHER PROFESSOR WOULD SUFFICE. If you don't have a choice, then PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:3331 - I personally think that he does not focus on the important concepts and problems that he will assess us on, and always goes off on tangents about his students who went onto become doctors or random compounds that are useful in medicine. I think that in order to encourage intrinsic learning over learning motivated by grades it is alright, to provide applications of concepts once in a while in the lecture, but to only talk about the applications and not the concepts was where it starts to become an issue for me. The tests are usually medium difficulty and all short answer questions. I think that he does not prepare us for the exams at all, but his SI is stellar. She gives really great direction about what material to focus on, practice, and study. I also think the textbook is incredible and it is the thing that made Ochem so enjoyable for me. He also does not prepare you for multiple choice questions which I don't think is fair since the final is MCQ. Also, I would have appreciated hw because it would have been good extra practice.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2021-12-10

Comments:CHE 3331 - I disliked Dr. Zinke A LOT. He frequently went off topic during lectures, he did not go over important material, and overall not teach. You need to rely on your textbook and your SI to get you through the class. He does office hours, but they are pretty busy and you need to have specific questions. He also shows favoritism towards some students and engages with them more during office hours. If you don't do well on the first couple tests, he will not like you and he will judge you for the rest of the semester. Please be careful taking his class. I am honestly lucky just to get a B. He has almost no practice problems and does not teach the material. I would say to read the book before classes, and do all the practice problems in the book. Good luck!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:3332 - I had Zinke for Ochem 1 and 2. Like others have said, Zinke is a sweet man and is very understanding. Ochem 2 is hard and you will have to put in the work if you want to do well. Reading the book is super important and do all of the practice problems. If you can do the practice problems in the book, you will be able to do the tests. It will require lots of work but it is definitely manageable to get an A.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:CHE 3331 - Zinke is one of the kindest professors I have ever known but he is just not the best at teaching. He cares so much for his students. Sadly, this class is a lot of teaching yourself, at least for me and just about everyone I know that took it with me. The textbook is how we learned everything, lecture was kind of a waste of time. His tests are really challenging and he does not give much direction on how best to prepare other than just pointing you towards the book, which sometimes he bases his tests and notes on specific chapters on a different textbook. I felt lost in this class literally all the time. He does have a drop test though which is super duper helpful. All that said, he is an incredible person and everyone should be his friend!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:CHE 3331 - It bothers me that anyone would give Dr. Zinke a bad review, you can't ask for a better teacher. OChem isn't easy, but you can't blame the teacher for a bad grade, he does everything on his part to help you do well. I have a Y chromosome by the way, this stuff about him being sexist is nonsense.   - Grade In Class:B

Comments:Chem 1 - Zinke is such an amazing man! He really loves and wants to get to know his students. When I went to his office hours he wanted to get to know me as a person not just a student. Ochem is an incredibly hard class which is not zinkes fault since he really tries to help everyone succeed. He gives us very good notes and bc covid his lectures are recorded so I recommend re watching those to make sure you understand the material. Zinke also gives extra credit the most fun is definitely the music video lol. Make sure you do the hw on time and then anything you are confused on complete with Zinke in office hours. Make sure to take notes on the book and do lots of practice problems to do well on the quizzes and tests. my best advice for ochem is PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!!!!  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:3331 - I had Dr. Zinke for Organic Chemistry I. His lecture was good and consisted of his own notes that is basically an outline of the book, and he goes over examples for each concept which is helpful. Overall, I thought his quizzes and exams were very fair. If you knew the material, you could do very well. He has four exams and your lowest exam is dropped and replaced by the final. The final is pretty tough because he uses ACS for his final. There is homework online throughout the semester but you'll most likely end with a high A on it, so it can only help. This semester, Dr. Zinke offered 3 extra credit opportunities which was equivalent to 15 percentage points added to a test grade!!! Overall, very great and caring professor. I am taking him again for CHE 3332, and I would definitely recommend.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3331 - I loved Dr. Zinke. He was amazing. You have to go in knowing that OCHEM will require work and you have to try. But Zinke helps you get through it. He has regular office hours, and he will stay after class to answer quick questions. He is very accommodating if you have any conflicts or issues with a quiz or test. There is online homework that is all due at the end of the semester. I recommend doing the homework associated with a chapter after finishing the chapter in class. I also HIGHLY recommend reading the book chapter before he goes over it in class and printing the notes off before class. There are extra credit opportunities that I recommend taking advantage of because it will help you out a lot at the end of the semester. During the final week of school he would regularly email us about the status of our grades and when he would input our letter grades. Dr. Zinke is very personable and one of the best, that is why I am taking him again for OCHEM 2.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3331 - Ochem 1!!!! I loved this class I love chemistry though and I took it with genetics at the same time. TBH I thought that genetics was harder than this course probably because Zinke is such an amazing teacher who offers 3(!!!) EXTRA CREDIT opportunities! I had him face-to-face and he started teaching at a reasonable pace (we had time to do the "please- try's" in the notes in class) but he got super rushed in the end and we took 2 test a quiz and a final in just about 5 weeks time at the end (oops). Zinke truly cares about his students and wants to get to know everyone. I got an A in the course because there are 4 quizzes (10%), homework (10%) and 4 tests (including a drop test (48%) and a hard final (worth 32% of your grade) but the tests aren't impossible and the homework is an easy 100 points in the grade book. This class is not easy and requires a good amount of work but is very rewarding and Zinke is the best ochem teacher of all! Take him and this class!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:OChem1 - Zinke is amazing but you have to know how to sit down and study this subject for idk like at least 5 hours a week in order to do well. Some days I would put in 10 hours I'm not joking. Zinke is absolutely helpful when you seek him out, but his lectures are short and to the point, meaning that he covers concepts in under a minute and moves on at lightning speed. I basically stopped knowing what was going on after the first test because every week I was just catching up on the readings because he was going so fast in class. That was the major downside, he moves absolutely fast and you'll know what's going on only if you're ahead in the readings because he can cover a whole chapter and a half in one lecture session. The lectures ended up being things I just showed up for. The only thing that worked for me was to read and study and learn PRIMARILY from the textbook, not from Dr. Zinke and his lectures. The combination of things that made me succeed in this class was showing up to EVERY SI session and sitting down with the book for hours to learn the material and doing all of the practice problems WHILE I read (this last part is major). I kid you not when I say that I had to prioritize ochem exclusively and would on average spend 2-4 days learning a single chapter. You cannot pass without being organized and dedicated to the course. Every other course of mine fell behind this one which I know sounds extreme but this course is just naturally so content-heavy. This class is already hard and Zinke is a sweetheart but he expects you to own your own success, meaning you can't simply depend on him without doing anything else. If you show up to lectures only then I can't imagine you will pass. If you focus on reading and stay on top of the material, and go to SIs, I really think you can do well. Zinke gives free questions on tests sometimes and is overall a really nice guy. Tests are really fair, he doesn't throw curveballs on tests or ask randomly hard questions. One lowest test and quiz are dropped. I'm taking him again for Ochem 2. In summary, a lot of your success is up to you and the effort you put in to learn this material outside of class; and if you need extra help it won't come to you, you have to seek it out and put in the effort, but it is there for you if you try. P.S. I said workload was crazy because of the textbook chapter readings. Homework was a random extra component and pretty useless for studying but is just something to boost your grade in the end really.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:CHEM 3331 - This man is an absolute precious human being who cares for his students BUT that does not suffice for the fact that he spends an average of about 2 minutes for each concept and then moves one when one kid in the front says he understood. This teacher and the SI, Ally Wimberly, only explain things well IF you are already familiar with college-level OCHEM. They both are brilliant but not very understanding that first year ochem students aren't ochem masters. THIS IS A WEED OUT CLASS SO DO NOT TAKE WITH HEAVY COURSE LOAD. If you take this class make sure you have time to attend all office hours, all SI sessions and have time to study/practice for 6 hours outside of that during the week. Since Zinke goes so fast, it gives students NO time for deep understanding. I suggest taking another professor unless you ALREADY know ochem at a deep level.   - Grade In Class:DROP

Comments:3332 - I took Zinke for both O Chem 1 and 2 and I loved the class! He is honestly one of the best professors I had at Baylor. If you want to do well in this course, go to his office hours and see what you did wrong on quizzes and tests. I would also suggest going to SI because Zinke really values students that put effort into his class and the SI will most likely have information on what might show up on your quiz next week. Overall, Zinke truly cares about his students and I would 100% recommend him.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3332 - I had to retake o chem 2 online over the summer because COVID happened, and Dr. Zinke is amazing. His lectures and notes are very well-organized, and he actually explained spectroscopy well. When I was taking 3332 and 3238 (o chem lab) the first time, both professors assumed the other would teach spectroscopy such as NMR, so I actually never learned how to do that the first time around. Dr. Zinke made this and the other concepts I couldn't grasp before make sense. I'm very happy with how this class is going the second time around. He also wants his students to succeed, so he was willing to work with his students' work schedules over the summer to allow us to take the quizzes and tests when we need. So kind and so friendly and so helpful. Would totally recommend.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:CHE 3331 - Before the whole COVID-19 thing: he hand writes his notes which are super helpful in my opinion because it means you only have to read the textbook for whatever he included in his notes. He also hand writes his exams which can be a bit sketch but he gives partial credit so thats a plus. Dr. Zinke's class has a total of 4 exams (each worth 16%), Sapling HW (10% of your grade), quizzes (10% of your grade), and a final (32% of your grade). He offers BACON for extra credit (14 pts total added to an exam grade) and an extra credit video that he can award up to 5 points for. He drops the lowest exam grade and the lowest quiz grade. During the whole COVID-19 thing: I learned almost nothing from the lectures he posted online to be quite honest. I felt like he could've also done better with setting up a schedule for exams and whatnot cause there were no definitive dates given until like a week or so ahead of time. He did allow another drop quiz grade so thats good but I just felt like he struggled more than others with the whole transition. Overall: Dr. Zinke is a super sweet man who will definitely help you if you don't understand something. Organic Chemistry is hard though so it takes a lot of practice, but the good thing is that Dr. Zinke is super knowledge able about it and gives pretty good explanations. He is quirky, plays music for us before class, and is a good teacher (just not too good with technology it seems).  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:3331/3332 - Zinke is a fantastic teacher and works very hard to make sure his students excel. He handwrites his notes which follow the textbook very closely and gives him the opportunity to teach them very effectively. His tests are open answer rather than multiple choice, and I think this makes his exams better honestly. To prepare for exams, do all of the problems at the end of each chapter and try your best to get a practice test. He cares so much about his students and wants everyone to succeed. He is very personable and open to getting to know his students. I would recommend Zinke over every other ochem prof and he is a huge reason I enjoyed and succeeded in his class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3331 - AMAZING. Zinke is the best ochem prof. I took Hodson before and his teaching style just didn\'t mesh with my learning abilities. His class was incredibly difficult to me. I had to retake the class. I retook it with Zinke and I thrived. He handwrites his notes and scans them onto canvas. They are modified notes adapted from the book. He moves a little fast but if you read the book before each class, go to class with the printed notes, write down anything extra that he lectures upon, and then do practice problems after class... you will succeed without a doubt. Go to SI. No matter who your prof is, READ THE BOOK AND DO THE PRACTICE PROBLEMS. Make it your bible. You will not succeed if you do not do those things. Just being honest. Zinke has 4 exams and a final. The Final comes from the ACS book and will replace your lowest grade if your final grade is higher than your lowest exam score. His exams are straight forward (unlike Hodson\'s). If you know the material, you will do well. My lowest exam score was an 80 and that was because of COVID and the exam format changed since it was online. We have a quiz at least once every other weekish. There is sapling homework as well. Jones, Hodson, and Zinke are the main profs for ochem 1 right now. DO NOT take Jones... you will learn nothing from him but you\'ll probably get an A. Hodson is alright but I didn\'t like his teaching methods. With Zinke you will learn and it is VERY possible to do well in the class. Also he gives extra credit which is really nice. I will be taking him for ochem 2. He is a great man and is willing to help. Ochem is not easy but he makes it doable and I grew to love OCHEM and that\'s coming from someone that failed it the first time. Start with good habits when it comes to studying for ochem, try not to fall behind too often, and you\'ll do well :)  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3331 - Dr. Zinke is an incredible professor. He teaches the material in a way that is actually understandable, and is always available for office hours where he will walk you through a problem or concept step by step as many times as you need him to. He is super sweet and truly cares for his students success, in this class and in the long term. Comments:CHE 3331 - Zinke is a cutie! HIs class is difficult, but he has a way of making it enjoyable and showing you what all you need to know for the tests. Reading the book isn't necessary, but really helps if you are confused on a topic. He handwrites his tests and scans them in so they look similar to the notes. MAKE SURE to rework all of the examples in the notes and the examples he recommends in the book because these are often on the tests. At the end of the semester he gives a lot of opportunities for extra credit, which is VERY helpful. Finally and most importantly, go to his office hours. Getting to know him is very beneficial to your success in the class and he is a great guy! Ask him questions if you are confused, he is always happy to answer and explain anything. He really cares about your success in the class and in your future!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:Organic Chem 1 - Dr. Zinke is not as nice as the reviews make him out to be. I took Zinke with the mindset that he was going to be an encourager and a great educator but instead he puts in minimal effort into both his teaching and his ability to inspire students. His tests are handwritten which can be a bit weird at first glance but you easily get used to. His notes are chaotic and he goes extremely fast during lecture which can make the content difficult to follow. The textbook does a good job of explaining the material but towards the later chapters you will find that zinke tests over things not in the textbook but only briefly discussed in his notes. He does not allow for questions after class on most days which can make it difficult for more introverted students in need of help. He definitely favors the extroverted student and his teaching style is more suited for the extroverted students. He is not the worst professor I have ever had but certainly not the most helpful. Take Hodson if you can.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:3332 - Bless this man!! What an absolute gem of a professor. The homework is very manageable. His class has four exams, a final, and a number of quizzes. For the exams, find someone who has already taken the class and use their exams; THIS IS SO KEY!!!! Learn how he does his exams from these old exams. You don't necessarily have to read the book, just go over his lecture notes. He has so much extra credit it is truly a lifesaver. Go in and talk to him during office hours and ask questions about the test. He will give points back if you do so. Talk about life. Seriously, take him.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3331 - Zinke is really just an overall great professor. You hear horror stories from people in organic chemistry that it will kill you and your GPA, but I have been nothing but pleasantly surprised by my success in the class. Not gonna lie, I was super worried because I did NOT do well in general chemistry, but organic chemistry is actually a lot easier to understand, especially if you are more of a visual learner. The class isn't easy, but Zinke prepares you really well for exams, always has stellar SI's, and offers a ton of extra credit. He is also super understanding to personal circumstances and genuinely wants you to succeed. Zinke definitely has a bit of favor for pre-med students, but as long as you pretend to know what's going on you should be good. Utilize your resources, go to SI, do the online homework and other extra credit opportunities and it is really surprising how far you can go.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:3331 - I went into this class DREADING it. I was so bad at general chemistry it was insane. Zinke actually puts so much effort into his students. He makes these extensive sets of notes that you can follow along to in the class and they basically cover everything you need to know for the exams. He does problems along with the chapters in class and he is pretty interesting. He likes to share about his old students and give applicable stories related to the content you're learning. His homework is all due at one time at the ned of the semester, so you ca do it whenever you have time and there's not a huge rush. If he thinks he made the exam too difficult or unfair he gives points back and bonus. He's willing to listen if you think he's graded your quizzes or exam incorrectly - I've gotten points back on multiple occasions. He mostly follows along with the textbook and often uses problems from the in-text and post-text questions in the book for his quizzes and exams. The exams can vary in range as far as length, but they're usually very straight forward and always short answer. The only issue is that he hand draws the exams and quizzes, so it can be difficult sometimes to make sense of the drawings, but it's not a big deal. The quizzes are randomly placed throughout the semester, but he always tells you about them ahead of time. I personally liked Zinke, but if you're a slow learner you may have issues because he can move across the content pretty quick at times, but he does have an SI and office hours, so if you really put any effort at all into the class it's really not that bad at all.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3331 - Dr. Zinke is one of the nicest professors I've ever had. He can be a bit awkward, but he is always very helpful if you go in to his office hours and he cares so much about students. He'll write letters of rec for almost anyone, too. Ochem is obviously not an easy class, but if you put in the work, Dr. Zinke will help you get the grade you want. I also thought he prepared me well for the ochem on the DAT and I've heard he prepares students for the MCAT as well. Take Zinke if you can!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3331 - Dr. Zinke is actually the best professor I have come across at Baylor so far. OCHEM is a hard class, but Zinke makes it fun. He never makes it dreadful and always comes in with a positive attitude. His lectures are the notes that he posts online and they are really helpful. Go to his office hours. He loves getting to know all of his students. I struggled in his class but he always told me to push through. In the end, he offers a ton of extra credit so make sure to do all of it because it can bring you up a letter grade. He also has all of the homework due at the end of the semester so DO NOT SLACK OFF, because it's a lot.  - Grade In Class:C

Offers a TON of extra credit and drops your lowest test and quiz grade so you have a lot of room to mess up, which I needed. Comments:CHE 3331 - Dr. Zinke is a great professor, but organic chemistry is a tough class no matter who you take. Dr. Zinke is very personable, will tell jokes in class, and encourages you to ask questions. You have quizzes throughout the semester, for us it was 7, and he drops the lowest. You also have sapling homework for every chapter which is 20 questions/chapter. Quizzes and homework are each 10% of your grade. There are 4 class exams and the final. Each of the class exams are 16% of your grade and he drops 1. The final is 32% of your grade... yikes. He writes his own tests... literally hand writes them. You have to put a lot of hours into this class studying, and make sure you utilize his office hours as he is really helpful with homework and anything you don't understand. Make sure you study far in advance for the exams and quizzes.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3331 - Dr. Zinke is a really kind professor; he answers every single question happily and listens if the class has any concerns about tests/scheduling etc. He's also pretty creative and engaging during lecture which is pretty impressive for O chem. We had quizzes every week or so that you NEED to study for- but if you've been keeping up with practice problems you'll be fine. There are four tests and a cumulative final. The only way to prepare for the tests are to do all of the book's practice problems and probably the SI sheets. They're entirely free response worked problems. Do not wait until two days before the test to do them or you will drown in information. BUT if you do them all, then you will be set for the test. He provides detailed notes he posts online- exactly the notes he uses for lecture. I took O-Chem 2 in the summer and not only did he have plenty of office hours, but he would hold extra test reviews for summer students since SI was not available in the summer. This man works SO hard for his students and genuinely cares especially those who are respectful and work hard in his class. DO ALL BOOK PROBLEMS- I guarantee you deliberate practice is the only way to excel in his class. Comments:CHE 3332 - Ochem 2 was very similar to ochem 1 and I actually thought it was a little easier. Dr Zinke teaches it the exact same way as ochem 1. We had 4 tests and a final (the ACS) and weekly quizzes. You will do well if you stay on top of the material. Read the textbook and do all the practice problems and review problems. Go to SI!!!! Dr. Z is really close with his SI's and they know how he will test. I honestly didn't really learn in class because he goes very fast, but used the book and SI to learn. His tests are hard. The ACS final is absolutely awful, I think he curved ours about 15 points but the average was still a 72. I think it tanks everyones grade so honestly don't stress too much about it. Dr.Z really cares about his students and wants to get to know you!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3331/3332 - Dr. Z made O chem a very enjoyable class! The students who did the best in his classes were the students who took him for both semesters. It will be very challenging for you if you have another teacher for O Chem 1 and then hop to Dr. Z for O Chem 2. He has a very particular teaching style and testing style so stuck with him for both semesters. His class is very organized and you will always know what expected of you. There are four tests, but only three are counted (you also get one drop quiz). He offers at least 15 points extra credit as well. He is always available to meet with students and always willing to give you points back on a test if you feel he graded too harshly. I will miss this class greatly! Dr. Zinke's O Chem 2 class was one of the few o chem classes that overlapped perfectly with o chem lab material! That overlapped allowed my to also receive an A in O chem lab.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3332 - Dr. Zinke really is incredibly nice, though it can be intimidating to approach him at times. His teaching style centers around explaining pre-made notes with occasional practice problems thrown in to break up the lectures a bit. It wasn't really to my liking, but I know most will appreciate the fact that a full set of notes will always be there to fall back on. Dr. Zinke's class is challenging, and though he is always willing to help out students, he will not hold your hand throughout this course. If there is one thing I can stress about this class, it's that you must go to SI or at the very least do practice problems for each chapter like Dr. Zinke suggests. I never did either of those things, but I got bopped on a couple tests as a result and only scraped an A by the skin of my teeth. He gives a boatload of bonus points throughout the semester and I highly suggest grabbing all of those as well since it may end up saving your grade. A word of caution concerning the ACS: it's pretty hard, and though Dr. Zinke's notes cover a lot, you won't do as well on the exam if you rely on these as your only resource. Use online resources and definitely take a practice ACS exam online if you can afford the $10 price tag. Overall, Dr. Zinke is a pretty cool dude and his music taste is on point. His quizzes and tests are hard but never unfair, and any student would be lucky to have him as a professor at some point during their time at Baylor.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3331 - Zinke is a great professor and teaches better than any of the other o-chem professors offered here at Baylor (in my opinion). His test questions always came straight from SI worksheets or the problems in the back of the chapter, or they were very similar. They weren't difficult, but it was easy to lose points on little mistakes as they were mostly free response. He is helpful albeit a little intimidating, and he truly cares about his students and will work with you to get the grade you want. His teaching style is clear and concise, but he sped through the last couple of chapters to fit everything in. He made up for that by curving the last two tests 7-10 points. An A is easily achievable if you do the SI worksheets and the book problems. Good luck!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3331/3332 - If you fear Organic Chemistry, Dr. Zinke is a very solid choice as he is incredibly nice, intelligent, and is more than willing to work with you. That being said, you will need to do some work to get a good grade. It's far easier than some of the horror stories I heard, but it is challenging, particularly the ACS which is departmental. I ended this class with over a hundred average, Zinke offers many opportunities to pick up your grade. But as easy as his sapling homework is for OChem 1, it is nothing short of frustrating for ochem 2. If you don't have chegg, like I didn't, you will find yourself incredibly annoyed with the ochem 2 sapling. Further, the pacing of this class is pretty harsh. Several days are just downright wasted, and some easy material is spent forever on, while difficult material is glossed over. I highly recommend purchasing the advised books (ochem as a secondary language) or Klein's ochem book, both of which are far more helpful than the assigned book. Also, go over recommended problems, they show up on tests. In the end, Zinke is an amazing professor that I highly recommend. Comments:3331/3332 - Honestly I love Dr. Zinke. I don't know why he has a rating of 69 - he is honestly one of the most amazing professors I've had at Baylor. He's extremely patient and has plenty of office hours. He always tries to relate the material to everyday which makes it easier to learn/remember. The course IS hard and you do have to put in a lot of work in to get a good grade. He has "please try" problems during class, which are extremely helpful. He also has quizzes every week or so, as well as Sapling. The quizzes are great for testing you over the material. Sapling is definitely tedious - he includes problems on there that are way harder than what he's going to test you over. But he is a very fair grader and is always willing to go over the material with you. Yes, his exams can be hard (especially the synthesis problems, which I always struggle with), but Dr. Zinke tells you what you need to know beforehand. He's really funny and kind, and really tries to get to know his students. Go to his office hours and talk to him!! Don't be afraid to ask for help. He's my favorite professor at Baylor and I'm so glad I took him.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:3332 - Enjoy his generosity. There is no one else that compares. The only annoying about this class is the quizzes and Sapling. The quizzes actually help you prepare for the exam, but they're just annoying to study for. Just Chegg Sapling and you'll be fine. Comments:CHE 3332 - Dr. Zinke is a very nice and personable professor. I only talked to him a couple of times, but should have talked to him more- he really cares about his students. As for the course, it's OChem 2, so it's pretty difficult; however, he makes up for this by offering a massive amount of extra credit, and then still curving the course in the end. The ACS final will be terrible, and he may not curve it quite enough to get a raw A, but if he feels that the work you've put in over the semester is worthy of an A, he'll curve you, and everyone above you, up. He puts a lot of time into the course and expects a lot in return, but at least in the chemistry department, I haven't had a professor who puts more time and effort into his course and his students than Dr. Zinke.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:CHE 3332 - Dr. Zinke is the nicest man on this planet, and he has a way of making you feel like you're young again and your dad is telling you that you're the best and that you can achieve anything. He is extremely helpful if you go into his office--which is where he practically lives. He drops a test, and leaves a big portion of your grade to the ACS final, which even after he curves it by 40 points, is still destined to doom your grade. There are weekly quizzes over lecture material, and he gave our class a daily quiz over spectroscopy that served as bonus points for the next test. The tests are hand written and photocopied (I'm serious) and are insanely difficult. Most of your learning will come from outside of class, because Dr. Zinke just talks verbatim of his notes--which he gives you online. Doing problems in Klein's Organic Chemistry as a Second Language, from the end of chapter problems in the textbook for the class, and from any other source Dr. Zinke gives you to do problems from is where your learning will happen. Looking back, the only thing I wish I would've done was devote more time to doing practice problems, if I had given around 3 more hours of studying for each exam, maybe I would've walked away with an A.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:3331 - I don't know why Zinke has such a low score. Yes, his course is hard, but he tries very hard to be there for the students. There are nights were he sleeps in his office just so he can be here for his students. He also gives you his notes, which is basically what you should be studying. He can be a little awkward to go see during office hours, but once you get past that factor, you can tell all he wants is for us to succeed. His tests are also short answer so he tries to give you as much partial credit as he can. i have yet to take the final, but I have heard it was scary and pretty hard. Overall I think Zinke is trying his best for his students to succeed. He does an extra credit video, we could pie him at Relay for Life for extra credit, and attending SI's were extra credit. Comments:3331 - Dr. Zinke it's the type of professor that want's to appeal to the classroom by playing modern music and making cheesy jokes. However, he will teach you a lot of things for the ACS and whatnot. His test are all write out and he will expect you to know the basics for the classroom environment. But when it comes to his exams he wants you to be like him and know Organic Chemistry inside and out. He is a very nice guy that wears extremely tight pants and you can see stuff ... Beware to anyone that sits in the front. He WON'T fail anyone, unless you actually try and not just BS everything. His test are really hard, but you can get through it.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:3331 - Zinke is definitely is a great teacher. I learned so much and absolutely fell in love with the material. However, he does pick favorites (and will even joke about how people say he picks favorites. Perhaps as a way to make it seem like he doesn't?). We had 8 quizzes, which can be difficult and the tests were fair (all free response). He drops the lowest one. He is usually available, however he does sometimes seem to be rush or annoyed. Overall, good teacher and great class.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:3331 - Zinke is a great teacher! He holds practice sessions and reviews sessions. He is one hard teacher because his tests are all free response, but you will learn ALOT of Organic Chemistry, plus he is a down to earth guy so you should definitely take him  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:OCHEM1 - After transferring to Baylor I found all my science professors to be arrogant and unavailable or unwilling to help. But, everyday when I walked into Zinke\\\'s class I felt very laid back and at ease due to his teaching style. Even if you can not understand the way he teaches or even pay attention in his class, all you need is his notes and the study guide in order to do well in his class. But, if you really want to excel you should make it a point to go to his office hours and introduce yourself, he is such a nice professor that you\\\'ll just want to stop by and see him all the time. Another thing you should do is study the material before class that way when you sit and listen in class all you have to do is really just review. Again, this class will be a breeze if you just put a little effort in. I enjoyed the class greatly and felt like Zinke really cares about his students unlike many other professors at Baylor.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:3332 - This class was horrible to say the least. I always tried to go to his office hours, in which I was always hurried out because he was "busy". He rushed through his problems sessions, which are only beneficial to you if you're in his 3331 class. If you're in 3332, he'll give a few problems but will practically ignore you the entire time. I struggled in his class and constantly made the effort to ask for his help, only to be given the excuse that he didn't have time. The last few weeks of this class are super rushed--he gives the last two tests in the last three weeks, not including the final. He is super disorganized with grades, and you most likely won't get your last two tests scores back until the end of the semester. He talks about how much he cares about his students way more than he shows. He's really a horrible professor.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:3332 - Dr. Zinke really caters his class towards his students. He is literally always in his office from when the BSB opens til 5 or 6 pm most days. Just go to office hours and do the work out of the book that he suggests at home. Take Dr. Zinke 100%  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3331/3332 - Dr Zinke is the BEST prof that I've ever had at Baylor, and I don't say that lightly. I've never had a professor who cares so much about his students. This is o chem, so it is a challenging course no matter who you take. He gives 4 tests and a final (dropping the lowest test) and counts quizzes and homework as 20% of the class grade. Zinke is very available during his extensive office hours and will do everything he can to help his students succeed. AWESOME prof! Take him if you can!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2015-05-13

Comments:3331 - I got a B in the class, and I still gave him 5 star ratings on everything. He truly deserves it. Zinke has the nicest notes provided to you prior to class that make it easy to go along with the lectures. He is the most caring professor I have EVER had, and he still really cares about you even if you don't go to his office till the last month of school (like me). He puts students first and doesn't mind staying whatever time to help someone learn. His office door is always open. This class is a difficult class, so I understand the low ratings, but don't give a low rating if you're not up to put up the effort. I didn't study (literally didn't study) for the first two tests. Bombed them, but one gets dropped. Started studying and going to his office hours and SI and grade majorly improved. Just don't fall behind on the work and you'll be find. Best Organic Chemistry teacher you'll find.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:Organic Chemistry I - I love Dr. Zinke! He wants each and every one of his students to do well. He offers office hours every day for at least 3 hours, and does problem solving after class three out of five days of the week. He replies to emails quickly. He goes over material pretty quickly in class, but he posts his notes online before lecture. He assigns Sapling problems that are due after the exam, so you don\'t have to study for the test and worry about the homework on the same night. His exams are just like his reviews and the problems he goes over.Going to his office hours motivate you to do better, and he is helpful in office hours and emails. He makes an effort to know you by name, if not by face. He's willing to do anything for his students-- he even is coming in during dead days to review with us. Hands down one of the best professors I\'ve had at Baylor. Take him.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:O-chem 2 - Zinke and Superman once fought each other on a bet. The loser had to start wearing his underwear on the outside of his pants. Zinke has a wild tiger carpet at his house, the tiger's not dead, it's just afraid to move. Zinke once cut through a hot knife with butter. Zinke once got bitten by a poisonous snake in class, after 2 hours of excruciating pain, the snake passed away. All jokes aside, he's a great man, a great professor, and he has kids of his own in college, so he understands our struggles.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3331 - Unlike many of these reviews claim, Dr. Zinke is not fake, mean, intent on weeding anyone out, or overly difficult. Time properly invested will yield fitting outcomes, especially if he knows that you are working as much as you should be. He is easier than people give him credit for and he wants all of his students to succeed--he proves it with the INSANE amount of time he makes available to his students (2 office hours a day and three 2-hour review/practice problem sessions each week). Poor performance in Dr. Zinke's class is one's own fault, because he makes every effort for every student to thrive (bonus points, tons of extra review sessions...). If you are taking OChem at Baylor, take Zinke. His tests are very representative of the material and he grades very generously. He is also a very kind man.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:OChem 1+2 - Dr. Zinke is an extremely nice professor. He makes a clear effort to teach his students the material and he gives plenty of help outside of class and it is up to you to go take them. He truly cares for his students and makes us his first priority. His jokes can be kind of strange but he still is a positive guy. OChem is a hard subject and regardless of who you take you're going to struggle but Zinke is super approachable which makes the course a lot easier to do well in. His tests are reasonable and the review guides and sessions he provides are a good way of knowing what to expect on the test and helping prepare for it. There is a quiz every week but he gives plenty of extra credit. The sapling homework can be tedious but the most of the questions he picks are fairly easy. All his exams are free response as he writes them up and scans its.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:3331 - Dr. Zinke has been my favorite professor at Baylor. He wants every one of his students to do well in his class. He rarely turns students away in his office (even when he has obligations like writing a quiz or a test), and he is here until 6 pm on most days. He writes test reviews and even hosts about 2 review sessions a week. Getting an A in his class is feasible, but it will probably require more effort than other classes that you may have taken. With that in mind, take all of the negative reviews on here with a grain of salt, as I doubt that the people who wrote those reviews devoted enough time to studying for organic chemistry. I recommend going to SI, buying the book Organic Chemistry As a Second Language, and studying well in advanced (don’t try cramming!). His first test is relatively easy, but they do ramp up in difficulty by the end of the semester. He drops your lowest test and quiz grades, and he offers extra credit. Lastly, I recommend going to his office to get to know him. He is really easy to talk to (whether it is about organic chemistry or something abstract).  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3332 - I had Jones for Ochem1 and now I am taking Zinke for Ochem2, I took Zinke because of the good reviews I have heard from him, I was wrong. Zinke is just like Jones but a rude version. I love how he reads his ratings in class and makes fun of himself it is hilarious! Because instead making your ratings into a joke, why not learn how to improve your teaching and become a better professor?  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:3331 - What a teacher!!! I had Zinke for Organic Chem 1 during fall of 2014, He goes over notes way too fast. He is often rude in his office hours, but once you get to know him more and more, he becomes a nicer guy that you can count on. Take someone else, I dropped within the first month because I had no idea what was going on in this class.  - Grade In Class:DROP

Comments:3331-Ochem1 - Zinke is by FAR my favorite professor here at Baylor, he is a kind sweet old man that is always willing to help you. His exams are kind of tough but they cover the strong base of Ochem. Study your life off for this class, it is apparently a weed out for premed students. Good luck if you are taking him!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:CHE 3331 - Dr. Zinke is the best professor that I have had at Baylor and I am currently entering my 4th Semester at Baylor. He is a genuinely funny person who makes jokes to keep your attention at 9 in the morning. He is ALWAYS available in his office. One time I was going to see him in his office and he was on his way out going to a meeting. He took me back to his office and helped me understand a concept for 15 mins even though it meant him being ridiculously late to his meeting. That's dedication to your students from a professor. Granted, I studied really hard for this class. I made above a 99 on every exam during this semester including the Final, and i didn't even graduate in the top 10% of my HS class. Dr. Zinke is a fantastic professor, but OChem is NOT easy, you will not be able to cram it all into your head in 1 night before a test. It takes at least a weekend of studying to be "A" level prepared for a test. My advice, do exactly what he said on the first day of class and Buy the Solutions Manual, It will increase your understanding greatly while you are working through the chapters so that you have relevant "test level of difficulty" questions to ask when you go to his office. TL;DR - Take Zinke, Buy the Solutions Manual, Study and Go to Office Hours.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Organic Chemistry 1 - This is my first year here at Baylor University after transferring from a community college in my hometown. I took Chemistry 1+2 and my community college and my adviser told me that I can move straight onto Organic Chemistry. I feared for my life. But Zinke is an amazing professor who was willing to hold a bunch of review sessions and office hours. He is an awesome professor especially at a University. I am taking him again in the near future, I recommend you do. Just be careful because it is a hard-as-hell course!  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:O-Chem1 - Zinke is a new addition to Baylor University in the Chemistry department. I believe he use to teach at UT Arlington, which is not a Tier 1 school like Baylor. He often talks down on his students because he does not realize Baylor is a significantly better University than UT Arlington. On the other hand, he is a difficult professor with quizzes and homework due every couple of weeks. There are 3 tests and a final which counts for 2 tests. Just study and hope you do well, he doesn't curve his tests, but he does on his quizzes.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2015-01-02

Comments:3331 - Professor Zinke really cares about his students. He is always available in his office, even not during office hours. But his helpfulness is not so great, often just telling students to just "work harder" or "pay attention" instead giving them tips on pinpointing the main subject of Ochem. He goes a little bit fast in class but thats fine because Ochem is a broad subject. I believe this is his first year teaching.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:3331 - Paul Zinke is a tough professor indeed, but organic chemistry was not meant to be an easy subject. Paul tries his best to be funny in class but we are not at a comedy show, but at an education center trying to learn. I love the notes because they literally helped me survive the class. He is a good guy to get to know in his office. He is always readily available and a sweet man in general. The other reviews say that he has favorites, I disagree with that. He will often shoo away students who come unprepared to ask questions. But if you already studied and know would you are doing, and would like to confirm your answers with Paul, then he is willing to help you out. Other than that, I think he is an average professor, it is his first year here and I hope he learns to improve his teaching styles and generosity. He is a good person and I can see it in him, he just hasn't had enough time to get used to the Baylor customs  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:CHE 3331 - He's ok... His teaching isn't bad he goes through notes during class and you just copy them down. He does post the notes online though so don't worry if you miss something. He had review sessions and question sessions during the week to try to help. His reviews had mistakes so be sure to attend the review session to get the "actual" correct answers. Other than tests, he had sapling homework and quizzes. Quizzes were kind of difficult so go over your class notes thoroughly. As for tests they were difficult, at least for me. Half the things were from his reviews but harder so know the review forward and backward. The other half was from notes and from the book so study both of those. Also he totally looks like someone from "How the Grinch Stole Christmas".  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:3331 - I am sure he is a good guy, but I left very frustrated with his course. The beginning was very hopeful. He encouraged every student to come to his office for help if we didn't understand a concept. However, his office would consist of his favorites. He would forget about the students who actually needed his help. It was very frustrating when I would set up an appointment time with him and he would forget, have some excuse, or allow his favorite students to step in and take my appointment time. Don't expect much of a curve, as there barely is one. Yes, if you have a 69.9, he will not round up.  - Grade In Class:D

Comments:Ochem1 - I worked very hard for this class, Zinke is a new teacher at Baylor and I would say he is doing a good job. Sometimes he would go over the notes a little bit too fast. But in the end it is Ochem and you will have to do some self studying sooner or later. I suggest Khan Academy for a review  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3331 - Very difficult class because it is ochem. But him having his favorites does not help students who are trying to pass. Other than that, he is a very nice professor who is always willing to help out. Try to suck up to him earlier in the year. Tests range from average to difficult. You have sapling and quizzes every week. I would say other professors in the chemistry department are better.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:3331 - He is a good guy. He encouraged every student to come to his office for help if we weren't understanding a concept. However, his office would consist of his favorites and would essentially shew away the average students who actually needed his help. If you don't understand a concept, I suggest sitting down with whichever SI you have until you understand the concept then fight through his prodigal students to see if he can reinforce what you learned. Your grades are what you get. Don't expect much of a curve if any. Fight for one of his coveted spots under his wing. If you aren't the apple of his eye. Good luck.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:CHE 3331 - Dr. Zinke is THE BEST professor! He is incredibly helpful and really cares about how you do in his class. He likes when students go to his office hours and he really tries to help you understand the material. His lecture notes are easy to understand and he works out plenty of example problems in class. His tests are reasonable. They test what you know without being too difficult. Dr. Zinke also makes class enjoyable because he always tells jokes and stories. Definitely take his class!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:CHE 3331 - Dr. Zinke was one of the best professors I had so far at Baylor. Honestly, I don't know if I would've made it through OChem if it wasn't for him, because I wanted to give up so many times but he was reassuring and very available and open to helping. Going to his office hours were great because he wouldn't simply answer our questions and shove us off, but he'd come up with new problems for us to work through and help us every step of the way. He also hosted many review sessions prior to tests, which were very helpful. Dr. Zinke is very understanding and will help you through problems with OChem and problems with life; he's not like most chemistry teachers I've had. He is very thorough and posts his notes on BB as well as creating reviews/study guides for us to work through, study, and go over in order to better understand the material. There's a reason that he has a long waitlist for his second semester! He's great and I'd recommend you take him if you can. That being said, OChem is a hard course regardless of the teacher, but he helped make it manageable.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:3331 - Dr. Zinke is the man! He is available pretty much 24/7. He is willing to work with you to get the grade you want. He only encourages you to do better. He will personally get to know you. Takes time out of his day to hold schedule review sessions aside from SI and office hours. He understands how hard the subject is and makes it as doable as possible. Don't be afraid to go into to his office because I found group office hours so much more helpful plus he will kindly talk about more than just O-chem. I remember watch Frozen videos during his office hours. He is a must take professor because of how hard he works for the students.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3331 - He is not a very good lecturer or in fact a good teacher. During class he tries to make jokes that make absolutely no sense at all and throws a fit if we do not laugh. Comments:O Chem 1&2 - Zinke is such a good professor! This is his first year teaching at Baylor (fall 2014) but he has taught at other schools before. He has hand written notes that he puts up on BB to follow and uses them to teach kinda like a powerpoint. It it much much more helpful than powerpoints as he draws and writes as we go and does lots of examples. He is quirky but funny and his lecturing really helps you understand the material, plus you dont have to take notes because he puts his notes online and they are soo much more helpful than trying to write everything down yourself. There is about 1 quiz per chapter but they arent difficult. The quizzes and tests are handwritten and the require you to like draw a structure or name a structure so nothing is multiple choice but he gives partial credit and never puts anything too difficult on it. also there is ZERO MATH!!!! He gives a test review worksheet that is identical to the test but with different numbers and also holds test review sessions outside of class you can go to that are SUPER HELPFUL!!! He is probably the best O Chem prof to get so TAKE HIM!!! I am not a chem person AT ALL and i have a hard time comprehending it all but he has made this class about as easy as O Chem can get!! Take him and you wont regret!!!!   - Grade In Class:B
