Comments:2314 - First of all, this course is a total waste of time. Dr. Alexander mentioned that intro to PWR was added somewhat recently to the list of required classes for PWR majors, and let me tell you, it certainly feels that way. It doesn't feel necessary whatsoever, and I was left wondering what the real objective of this class was. I don't feel like I've discovered anything new about myself as a writer, nor do I feel like I understand the field of professional writing any better. I've learned nothing. Second, the amount of work she assigns for an intro course is insane. Be prepared for daily readings with required reading responses that take FOREVER to complete. We also had three major projects. The first one is a research paper about an area of writing of your choice, the second is an interview with a professional writer (you have to go out there and find someone, set up an interview, and then transcribe it, which is a huge pain), and an essay detailing your philosophy of writing. Don't ask me why she expects us to have some deep philosophical views on writing after taking a single intro course. It's ridiculous. For all the work I had to do, this class did not make me a better writer at all, which comes as a huge letdown. I was interested in being a PWR major before, but after taking this class, I won't be doing that.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:PWR 3321 - This class was graded fairly easily, but had a lot more work than I was expecting. Almost every class we had online open-not quizzes and/or notes due over the readings. Each quiz/set of notes took about an hour to do. We also had 20 hours of field work in the writing center over the semester, which was stressful at the end because people needed to book appointments with you for the hours to count. The rest of the grade was discussion/reflection writing assignments. Class was mostly discussion-based, and I definitely learned a lot about tutoring and writing in general. If you want to work at the writing center or learn more about writing in general, this is a great class to take!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3300 - She is so smart and has so much help to offer about technical writing. Her feedback is detailed and helpful, and makes it easy to feel like you are improving even if your work is not perfect. There was more group work than I would have liked, but she graded it fairly and I did not have to do extra work for lazy people.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3300 OL1 - Dr. Alexander is an awesome teacher! I took this course this past summer and even though online is strenuous, I learned a lot in the class. There was a lot of reading and the assignments were mainly group assignments, but some individual work as well. The tests consisted of multiple choice for majority of it and some short answer essay questions. If you stick to the timeline for the assignments, you will do well. I did miss a few assignments or turned them in late most of the time, but she is pretty lenient.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ENG 4318 - Definitely take her! I really enjoyed her class. She is extremely polite, insightful, and helpful. She was always available and very helpful when I needed help with papers. The reason why she is an excellent teacher is because she uses modern examples and relates extremely well to 21st century students in her teaching. There are some challenging writing assignments, and they do require effort, but she is always available to discuss your paper with you and help you find ways to improve. She is very organized and hands out clear plans of the homework assignments for each paper in advance. You shouldn’t expect an easy class at the 4000 level, or you’re not really going to get much out of it. I feel much more confident about my writing coming out of the course, even though I began to wonder how I’d ever gotten an A at Baylor after the first few weeks. She can really help you make leaps and bounds in your writing, you just need to have the right attitude and accept that you’re not a perfect writer after six semesters in college. I wish she taught more courses so I could have learned from her earlier!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:4318 - She made her classes interesting and fun, yet helpful in explaining what she expected our writing to look like. The essays require effort; but she is always available to discuss your paper with you and help you find ways to improve.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ENG 4375 & 4377 - Wonderful professor. I had Dr. Alexander for a Special Topics in Writing class called Writing in the Digital Age, as well as for the Professional Writing Internship. Both courses were very well organized, and Dr. Alexander was always approachable and willing to help her students. For each assignment, she makes her requirements clear to her students, and if there are any changes made to the assignment, she'll let you know well in advance. The class was largely project-based, and the projects do take up a good amount of time. But, they really will expand your knowledge on the subject matter and improve your writing skills. I felt that every project assigned allowed me to develop skills that will be really useful in future classes and my career. What I would say is the key to being successful in these courses are just to stay on top of the assignments and to engage yourself in the course as much as you can. Do the assignments, and put your best efforts into them. If you have questions/concerns, Dr. Alexander is really easy to talk to and will always help in any way she can. I'd definitely take this professor again.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ENG4318 - She is an amazing professor. You can tell that she truly cares about her students and she wants you to do well. I took one of her classes and can say with confidence it was one of the hardest I've taken at Baylor, but only because there is so much work to do. The class was, however, also one of my favorites. The work is--well, work--but it gave me a sense of achievement and helped me develop my skills in my professional life more than I ever could have anticipated. Definitely take Dr. Alexander as a prof, she was always there to help whenever I needed it and she is very friendly.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:3300 - I was required to take this professor and I could shoot whoever made that so. She's a nice enough person outside of class but her (double)standards are RIDICULOUS. Everything she says she changes later, and no matter how well you follow the instructions she always gets your grade on something(you meet the page requirement-you're too wordy. Make it concise-then it's not long enough so either way you get docked 20 points.). She has absurd standards for team projects that completely screw your grade if you get a deadweight in your team, and her quizzes are atrocious. I am one of the best writers and readers I know-and look at what grade I got in this class!  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:3300 - Dr. Alexander is an extremely intelligent person, but taking her for technical writing was extremely difficult. This class was supposed to be one of my easy business electives, and it turned out to be my hardest and most time consuming class this semester. I spent more time on this class than my microeconomics class, which is supposed to be one of the hardest classes in the business school. The class is organized into four major projects and a seemingly endless amount of daily work. The daily work takes up a lot of time and is not that beneficial in your learning. It becomes a real pain when you are trying to work on one of the major projects and have to spend time completely the numerous daily assignments in addition to working on the project. The daily assignments range from exercises in the book to several mini-essays. Dr. Alexander gives you the option to redo any of your major assignments for a better grade that will replace your initial grade. This is a nice option, but that means that she also grades a whole lot harder on the assignments in the beginning. I received the lowest grades I have ever received on any assignment in my schooling career in this class, and I had to spend tons of time redoing projects in order to pull off an A in the class. In my opinion, she is way too picky in her grading. She does offer the option of an ¼ letter grade boost if you have percent attendance, so if you have to take Dr. Alexander, I would be sure you are present every class period. I have heard that other technical writing professors are a lot easier, and their class is basically a joke. They have a lot fewer major projects than we had, so I would encourage you to take someone else other than Dr. Alexander. She also acts like she wants to help you, but she isn’t the nicest person in her office hours. I left her office almost in tears one day. If you do end up having Dr. Alexander, I would encourage you to ask all of your questions during class. I did learn a lot in the class that I can use in the business world; however, this class just took up way too much of my time.  - Grade In Class:A
