Comments:FYS 1399 - Friendship - I love Dr. Davis so much as a teacher and a mentor! By the end of the semester, it really felt like he was more of a dad to us than an authority figure. Always kind, but in a funny way, absolutely brilliant, reasonable, responsive, and helpful... I cannot recommend this man more for any class he teaches. Heads up that this class is a Christian and ancient philosophy-based class from a distinctly Christian professor, so you will do deep thinking, but it is a very accessible, intro-but-still-deep class. Our section this past semester wanted to read the texts pretty slowly, and he went at our pace, adapting to what we wanted to talk about and our ways of thinking. Our out-of-class assignments consisted of: daily (2 times per week) readings from the texts, but only about 10-20 pages; 5 750-word reflection essays that he dropped the lowest 2 (so you only have to do 3 if you're happy with your grade); handwritten in-class midterm and final, which were each one long essay question; and this cool, unique assignment where you teach your friend a section of the course texts and write a report. Don't be scared by the amount of writing; it really wasn't much over the course of a semester especially because he grades easily and doesn't have high writing standards for the reflection essays. Honestly, Dr. Davis is such a good teacher and person to know that I would say to take any class he offers, no matter what it is!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1309 - Dr.Davis is such a good professor! I took him for Introduction to Medical Ethics, and he was the least stressful and most enjoyable class all semester. There were weekly chapter readings and class studies you'd discuss in class. Readings took less than an hour, and case studies less than 5 minutes to prepare for class. There were in-class and group discussions; just be prepared, and you'll be fine. He gave a review for the midterm that was word-for-word the same as the review. Just be good about explaining, and you'll be fine. The final was a case study analysis, very straightforward, and I didn't have to study to get a 100% on the final. I'd highly recommend Dr.Davis, I learned a lot and was never stressed!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:FYS 1399 - Davis was AMAZING! He was the best FYS teacher I could imagine, and his class was very interesting. We had just a few pages of reading for class (you could get by with skipping a few, too) and then the entire class was discussion. There was a bit more philosophy to the class than I expected, but he made it very easy, even for inexperienced people like myself. He often cracked jokes and told stories in class and let us out early often. There were five 750-word essays (of which only the three highest counted, so you could not do two if you were satisfied with your grade), a 1500-word midterm, a 1000-word final, and a participation grade. He graded these VERY easily, even more so as the semester went on-- he also offered up to 20 points of extra credit on the final through various avenues-- you had no excuse not to get an A. He did seem to have favorites, but overall the class was very low-key and fun and it sounds like by FAR the best FYS experience compared to other options.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:FYS 1399 - Dr. Davis is AMAZING. Definitely my favorite professor of first semester. He cares so much about his students and you can totally tell in everything he does. This first year seminar was on friendship and it was so rewarding, both inside and outside the classroom. We didn't have too much work, some readings and essays to write, but it was incredibly manageable. Lots of in class discussion and involvement. It was easy to become closer with my peers because of how Dr. Davis structured the course. Seriously an incredible professor that left such a big impression on me. He also gave us opportunities for extra credit on the final exam!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1399 - I had Dr. Davis for a first-year seminar on Friendship. The class was small so we really got to know one another and delve into the subject matter. Dr. Davis clearly cared about us; he is very wise, encouraging, and willing to help you in whatever way he can. Very approachable and a fair grader. I would totally recommend taking him for a FYS.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:FYS 1399 - I had Dr. Davis for my first-year seminar on friendship. He clearly cares a lot about this topic and made reading philosophy really interesting. The reading is not too much but you will have multiple essays. He is very kind, often funny, and an excellent teacher, and he cares a lot about his students. If you are an incoming freshman I would totally recommend taking this class if he does it again!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3301 - If you want a professor who you have to kiss his butt to get the grade you want then this is your guy. He is very condescending and belittles you when you are having a conversation. I went to several of his office hours and he never gave me a straightforward answer. When we were in class every time I had a question he told me to ask our TA Harrison. He does not grade any of your assignments for the class Harrison does. Harrison acts the same way that Davis does; he is rude as well and even annoying. For the final exam we had to write a 2700-3000 word essay that Davis decided he wanted to grade this time (good for him he final did something on his own). There were 37 people in the class and we submitted the essay on Monday at 4:00pm and we received our grades back Tuesday afternoon. It does not make sense how he could have read roughly 111,000 words within a 24 hr period. He had to have help of other people or put our essay in a machine to grade. Either way it was wrong and unfair for him to grade us that way. I would advise anyone who wants to take him to rethink that decision and if you want to then you better watch out.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:PHI 3301 - What a bright and Christian professor. Dr. Davis is very kind and also quite funny. You will learn a lot in his moral philosophy course, and he makes sure to apply readings to real world issues. TAKE HIM!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - DAVIS was an amazing teacher..i had him for a business ethics class, which i at first thought was going to be extremely boring, BUT it wasnt...he made everyone really think. Even if they felt strongly about a certain issue, he could promote the other side really well. Nicest guy in the world, real mellow voice and really easy going. theres not much homework in the class...the only thing that really required any work was the four essays due every few weeks....each of them had to be about 4 to 5 pages long and sometimes they were hard to write..he's one of those teachers who really doesnt post your grade online..but if you write strong, well written papers and are participating in class you should make atleast a B+ if not an A...i recommend you take Dr. Davis...he likes to wink alot so watch out haha  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:PHI 1321 - I felt Dr. Davis was very prepared for every meeting and extremely knowledgable about the subject. I did not enjoy the class and fell asleep quite often. Most of what I didn't like was the workload, on account of being lazy. One essay was due every Friday and there were three essay exams. Expect to read a lot.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1308 - TAKE DARIN DAVIS HE IS AMAZING!!! He does about three essay tests a year which cover main topics and requires ten short and easy essays on the topic of the week. His book selections were really interesting and the whole class is great discussion. We LOVE Davis. He also is doing a great class in Fall 07 :) Don't miss it.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Intro to Philosophy - Dr. Davis is a great teacher. He cares about his students a lot and if you come to class and be part of the discussions then you do great in the class. If you show interest to learn material it will help your grade. If you ever need help he is always willing to help. If you show that you care about the class then he will care about your grade. I am not a philosophy major and wasnt too excited about the class, but i learned a lot and im glad i took the class.   - Grade In Class:A
